The learning curve is going to be steep. But like anything if you stick with it and keep practicing you can become fairly decent. Find some friends or make some friends who have the game and face them frequently, you can teach each other strategies and have fun learning. You can watch some pro player's replays and learn some tactics for that race and it will amplify your game. I assure you there will be lots of losing and learning involved but it will make your wins all the more pleasurable.
