I just started the game myself with my PS2 copy in my PC drive displaying at a 1920x1080 resolution. Super sharp polygons, although it can't help the 2D art. It also allows you to cheat a bit, with the save state function.
With multiple PS3s that I regularly use, I don't ever see corrupted data.
As long as you don't shut it off by yanking out the power cord, it's sounding like there is a bigger problem, especially since it's just a week old and it's had these many instances of issues.
Obviously hard drive seems suspicious, but if it's crashing in the middle of a write that wouldn't necessarily be the drives fault.
The thing is that it doesn't feel like it's crashing -- it's been working flawlessly outside of the corrupted data, which seems to be mostly or entirely 0 KB. If I'm right about it only happening when I set it to auto-shutdown, it almost feels like it's something about the automatic installation feature (which I think only happens when it's set to auto-shutdown).
Getting the hardware replaced would probably be a huge pain, especially since this feels like a software thing. I've also got three weeks, so may as well stick it out and try to narrow down the problem.
Pulling the drive, plugging it into my PC, and running a disk consistency check is also possible if it comes to that.
If you do take the drive out you can also consider wiping it and doing a fresh firmware/OS install.
But yeah, keep an eye on it for now sounds good. Just keep in mind you should be able to use automatic install without issue, and when it didn't shutdown properly that's an instance of a crash which could have caused corrupted data. As long as it's rare, because as I said I've avoided getting corrupted data after years of PS3 use.
Also, if the machine lets out 3 quick beeps it's indicating a crash. Doesn't mean a hardware problem as games do crash, but something to listen for, especially if it happens in the OS or while downloading.

Question: Does the PlayStation 3D Display come with a remote control?
Answer: No. However, any Sony television remote can operate the display (even old remotes for standard-def Sony televisions), as can most universal remotes (simply input a code for a Sony TV). The new Media/ Blu-Ray Disc Remote Control can also operate the 3D Display.
I don't see famous artists putting much passion in game music. Not to the level of TV and Movies.
Recent example was last SOCOM had Bear McCreary who did a pretty average job that wasn't near what he did for Battlestar. Still.... budget and exposure is huge on CoD so maybe Reznor will care a bit more.
