Lesson save early & often

Was playing Just Cause & after liberating about 5+ places, the game froze up. Despite getting the achievement for it, what I got wasn't the last of the achievements for liberating all of these little islands. So hopefully this message goes out to anyone playing this fun game, just save it as there are times when you just have to remember to save or face the consequences.

Hopefully the sequel will let you save anywhere as long as you aren't on a mission (or it auto saves the fact you liberated an area), that and you can encourage others in your vehicle to join you in the stunt positions of hanging off the tail of a helicopter flying into a mountain.

flaw in wolverine

Really enjoying the X-Men Wolverine game, it's always fun to just take out the stress of the day by turning into a walking blender to shred through dozens of people. The utter damn flaw in the game though is that there is a statistic list showing how many of the 95 collectables there are but not a simple patched thing of telling you at least if you've gotten them all in a level or not. Since I'm only missing 1 of the 95, I really don't want to go through the whole game yet again to find the one I missed. I was following the Rooster Teeth Achievement Hunter for finding them which worked out well but I'm guessing that I got one near the end of a level or died right before a checkpoint save meaning it respawned. After finishing the game & going through it to get ALMOST all the ones I'm missing it's all blurred together on what one freaking thing is missing.

Heh since I rented the game I'll pick it up later through gamefly & burn through that again as well as getting the last two reflex skills to finish that part off as well.

Spore more

Well after reading a ton of gamespy & spore wiki info on the space stage I learned enough to that the next new game going to space worked out a lot better after the first time when I got mobbed by wars on two sides not counting the main big bad force. What would have helped is having the philosophy trait in the same spot, the spore wiki has a good list on where to find them and with the 3+ possible locations for that it would have made more sense to just put it in the main tab for easy access, sure as hell didn't see anything on where it was as far as all the other tutorials.

For all the people here & online who are caught in the Spore web the only advice I have is this: in space mode start small & explore some while doing missions for the neighbors & start trade with anyone who's friendly; any rare item that is tied to a particular philosophy, save those for the people who pay 2x for them; easy colonies by waiting til people are at the tribe stage on a planet & wiping the main huts off the face of the planet then no more races to stop you from taking over; and most importantly in the creator pressing ALT will copy item & TAB will give you 3 rotate wheels.

And when in creature/tribe mode watch the skies for cool screenshots :)

Spore went from fun to frustrating rather quickly

While trying to get through the first playthrough I must say that it's rather frustrating to hit the space stage, slowly figure out the TON of stuff to do in this stage versus the others, have 2 warrior factions either attacking any of the colonies/homeworlds every 20 minutes (and not having enough money to get them to stop), then have one of the two basically cut through the area where my planets/alliance is at so looks like I'll say farewell to that game. Guess I'm more pissed as it's the easy mode. Before space mode, creature/stuff creator rocks.

Link here of what's been made by me.

From http://blood.lith.com/ and heard by many cultists before they get shot, blown up, set on fire from the flare gun or trying to kill you in Blood.

How can a game piss off players?

Easy way that I keep running into is seen in games like DoA4 & others (this time it was Gears of War#1) who think that if you can make it through the rest of the game then you shouldn't be able to make it through boss fights or certain scenes where the difficulty & stuff you learned previously is sufficiently hosed meaning that the chance of getting past the boss/area is really low. Now I'm not looking for a free pass through the game ending if I make it through the other 90% of the game, just don't screw with the game to the point where after 20+ times of trying (and looking online for strategy to get past the boss) it doesn't make me want to put a controller through the tv, however finding the people involved & pitch their controller through their tv. Ramping up the difficulty makes me want to sell the game, not even rent the sequel & be entertained at playing Turok (full of stupid plot & silly yet fun dinosaur ginsu psycho fighting) for the 360 instead which is saying quite a lot when you look at how Turok went all blah middle of the road to many gamers. So remember game devs I'm more tolerant than other gamers but after 20+ tries I'm more than willing to suddenly ditch the game for something else while swearing at the TV.

just really really embarassingly sad

Good metaphor for this is akin to a clown trying to set himself on fire & failing miserably. Since I'm going to the Art Institute for game design degree, if I ever ever ever make a game with #2 on this page (aka Psycho Mantis in MSG4) and it being my idea or just supporting it, everyone here has permission to use me in a recreation of what happened to Ludwig at the end of the Naked Gun movie (#1) with me in the place of Ludwig.

Whoever said this idea is approved needs to really find another line of work as this was just beyond sad & I feel set gaming back quite a lot at least in spirit. If I had spent the money on a PS3 & got MSG4, playing it up to this point (of #2 happening), I would have set the controller down and then proceeded to sell the game & the console to my friend cheap as that pretty much ruined the whole console for me considering how much they've been pumping up MSG4 as a stellar game. Seriously the story from what I read on the wikipedia makes a little more sense to me only after drinking an entire bottle of rum.
