Seriously people, please! The only thing endurance run freaks were nagging about before the announcement was that they wanted a new one. I sure wanted a new endurance run too, it's a fantastic idea but to be completely honest--I'm not watching it for the game but for Ryan and Patrick. I didn't watch the Persona 4 endurance run because I wanted to see the game. And I surely didn't watch the Deadly Premonition endurance run for that? I watched those two runs, and will watch this new one, because I want to see and hear Ryan and Patrick play that game. Giant Bomb is about character and when the guys are doing stuff they enjoy, then their character is shining. So why are you nagging about them having an endurance run now? Seriously! If you are doing it because of the game then I think that you're here for the wrong reason. It's just like criticising a quick look because they choose a bad game in some ways.Or am I the only one here who watch the endurance run to be entertained by Ryan and Patrick and not the game? It's almost like I want to change my name to Bruitcocoa, or Barl (in real life). Nothing stops Brono!

Quite right, I mainly watch because it's two funny dudes playing some game. There's also a nostalgia factor for Chrono Trigger. Must've played it 5 times or so, though I never stood still about the scientist bashing the time machine with a hammer. Anyway, more chrono trigger!

I agree with OP. I am watching this not for the game, but to experience the game alongside Ryan and Patrick. I enjoy watching people discovering a game for the first time. Sure, Patrick has played it before, but he did so when the game came out and hasn't touched it since. I remember playing the Resident Evil remake six years after playing it for the last time when it came out, and I nearly forgot everything, so it might as well have been called a new experience.

Anyways, looking forward to tomorrow morning. :)

No more than P4. I mean, you are probably going to clock 40 hours assuming you assuming you are a first timer and aren't using a guide and take the time to read everying. It also lacks all the exposition of P4 and having 4 different people at 4 different times telling you the exact same thing that over and over again to the point where you are like "No, I get it. Linear...JRPG. I mean, P4 is just as linear. The game is taking you down the same story path regardless of how you choose to proceed.

@Vashyron: Linear story wise, sure. But I personally think that Persona 4 gives you a lot more to openness in terms of gameplay than Chrono Trigger does.

I don't get the Patrick hate either, it's ok to dislike a guy but it seems to me that there are a lot of elitists here who just want Ryan Jeff Vinny Brad and nobody else which just seems dumb. I thought the Patrick / Ryan chemistry was really good, as is Vinny / Dave etc.

Everyone saying "OMG THEY ARE SO BAD AT THE GAEM" is a moron, can't you remember how bad Vinny / Jeff were at P4 when they started? They only barely BARELY made it past Yukiko's castle.

Chrono Trigger is a good game to endurance run because despite what a lot of people claim, there are a ton of people who to this day have not played it and probably would never play it. This endurance run gives those people a chance to not only experience a great game but to hear the funny commentary aswell.

This wound up rather rant-y but I needed to say it, people just don't know what they want nowadays.

I dislike this ER because I don't find myself entertained by Patrick. Not trying to be a dick, but that's just the way it is...

@Cloudenvy: Sort of. Like, I see your point, but I'm not sure openess would be the word I'd use. I mean, the social link stuff and hopping back into dungeons for the mission stuff sort of fills in the "side quest" side of the JRPG scheme, because they are completely optional and you don't have to do them. You are missing out by not doing them, but still optional.

CT has actual side quests as they usually are in JRPGs. Little adventures that you go off to that may or may not be related to the story with time travel being involved in those side quests.

The reason why I don't know if openess is the word I'd use for P4 is cause you are on a schedule. You only have a finite amount of time to do things. Hopping into dungeons and social linking uses that finite time and, if planned poorly, can eff up the whole game. CT lacks that. You literally have an infinite amount of time to do anything you want. Want to revisit a dungeon and do some grinding? No problem, end of the world can wait!

Why does the openness of the game matter? You're not playing it, you're watching it... in a linear fashion. Also, what good does bitching about it do? Clearly, they are not going to stop the ER now and pick a different game. All complaining is accomplishing is pissing off half the community and flooding comments/boards with drivel.

Well i will say that i do think it was a weird choice and a weird pairing because both Er before kind of showcased older jem people most likely missed or never knew about. Also ryan and patrick have not made the best team in videos (my opinion of course) because they are both great at playing off of other people so it weird not having a front man if you will.

But i feel that does not matter because beggars can't be chooser. I'm happy they are doing one even if i feel their may be better picks.

Also, there's something to be said for the appeal of Ryan, who hasn't played a lot of JRPGs, and few if any from CT's era. It's fun to see him coming at it from a "fresh perspective" (within reason, given his years of video-game experience).

I, for one, look forward to the inevitable hijinks and what not. There may be less potential than Deadly Premonition or P4 for nonsense, but I like the guys, and think they're funny, I'd listen to them read the phonebook together.

I suppose the point is, love it or hate it, it's note going away any time soon.

You could level that argument against the entire site. It's not like there absolutely needs to be another fucking website about videogames. It's just that giantbomb happens to the best one of those in my humble opinion that enough other people seem to share so far. Stating that GB sucks at doing anything in a matter of fact way is just nonsense and nothing but your personal perspective - that you're entitled to of course. Don't like their ER? Watch one of the hundreds of Let's Plays that have to be out there, I'm sure. Don't like their unique take on gaming coverage? Go to one of the hundreds or thousands of sites that tackle the same subject from a different angle. I personally don't manage to catch every piece of video game coverage out there or play every fucking game since the existence of videogames so I pick and choose content I enjoy. More often than not that is stuff I find on GB due to my personal bias and opinions on games.

I have neither played Chrono Trigger nor have I heard much about it other than the amazing nostalgia and hype people still have for it. I don't feel like GB has ever been about the "hottest", "hippest" or "newest" topics - to me it's about a couple of dudes with very cool personalities that enjoy playing games and are good at communicating their views to my kind of nerdy view. Your point seems really ineffective and nitpicky - GB content never seemed to be about the most "hardcore" or "pro" coverage. I personally don't care how many damn nerds voiced their opinions on CT, I want to hear what Ryan and Patrick have to say about it. It's all I ever wanted out of GB.

Maybe I miss an essential point here, but none of the CT ER haters seem to do anything else but run-off-the-mill whining and bitching so far. We'll see but the first episode seemed pretty damn cool to me.

@mutha3: Oh, I don't expect them to do all of the sidequests (if any), cause that would be silly. My response was not even really aimed toward the ER. I also don't enter into an ER with expectations. I'm just along for the ride.

I was just arguing the finer points of a comparison between P4 and CT.

I thought I could deal with the game itself, but I just don't find Ryan and Patrick to be as entertaining in the context of an endurance run as Brad, Jeff or Vinny. Ryan kinda held back the deadly premonition endurance run with brad.

Same here; I thought it was cool, but I was pointing out some noticeable flaws with this. They've gotten over the "things to say" hump, as far as I'm concerned (again, a difficult task when everybody has already played the game you're talking about), but not really the "being good at the game" hump. Maybe it's too early to call, but I don't like watching something and thinking that I could do it better. I didn't like it when Matt and Steve fell for the obvious trap in Resident Evil, and I don't like how Patrick and Ryan are fucking up a future event. You could make a case for Ryan fucking up, but not Patrick; he's played the game, so he should probably know "hey, don't be an asshole in the first ten minutes". Hell, the game tells you that when it becomes apparent that you shouldn't have been an asshole.

@Video_Game_King: Understandable! I absolutely have moments of rage too when people fuck up or are confused in games I know in much more detail already. Plus in this particular case I'm obviously blissfully ignorant as I already hinted at, since I really know next to nothing about the game. We can only hope all sides will get some solid entertainment out of it in the end. Since ERs are somewhat of a rare occurence I understand people freaking out when they fear it may be a disappointment for them. I'm hoping for the best.

Did I really want an Earthbound endurance run with Vinny and Jeff? Sure.

Did I still enjoy the first part of the Chrono Trigger endurance run with Ryan and Patrick? Absolutely.

No, they're only the most vocal. Hell, one trip to the Endurance run's comment section is all you need to see where listening to your fans will get you. The general consensus to that mess is, "I don't like this, I wish it was different, I want something else, but I will sit here and watch all of this just because."

Don't listen to your fans and do what you want to do. They're your fans because you were doing that in the first place.

I agree. But just ignore the whiners, they will never be happy with anything. I find when I ignore them I feel much better.

Also I'm enjoying the new ER and hope it gets all the way to the end. =)
