Games I Played in 2015
Games are listed in last played order as best as I can recall.
I recorded the date for games that I either started or finished in 2015. A tilde is for when I played a game but neither started nor finished it.

I absolutely loved playing Transistor. The combat system was super interesting, and being a sucker for turn based strategy, a totally unexpected surprise. Compared to Bastion, in which the gameplay was immediately accessible but didn't hold my attention over time, Transistor was much more confusing at first but I really grew to love it. So much so that I played it twice and completed all the challenges. I also don't share the criticisms I've read regarding the story being too obtuse and instead found it just as touching as Bastion's. I don't believe every story has to present itself transparently, and that there is merit in creating a mystery that compels you to search for meaning and answers that may or may not exist.

This was an interesting little game. It has a very unique graphic style and smartly constructed puzzles. The questions about cloning and the definition of self was something I have reflected on in the past, and it was cool to see a game tackle this. The sentient alien life presented in the game was similarly intriguing. They(it) view(s) the world in a wholly different capacity than us.

Despite the positive word that spread about Wolfenstein late last year, I still didn't expect to like it very much. In fact at first I didn't. But eventually I was won over. This game is just a well made single player first person shooter. Nothing more, nothing less. The overall tone is ultra-violent lighthearted action in an Inglourious Basterds kind of way that was fairly refreshing. It was also surprisingly challenging in some spots, but I haven't played a proper FPS game in a long time, so I was a little rusty on the controls (so that's probably more to do with me than the game).

I knew I was going to like this game and it didn't disappoint. I really liked Shu Takumi's work in the Phoenix Wright series and this game follows similar sensibilities. Plenty of twists and turns in a very tightly packaged story with a satisfying ending. I'm glad I finally got around to playing this after having bought it back in 2011.

This game was good. The nemesis system that everyone raved about was kind of fun to mess around with. The climbing got annoying in some spots when I'd try and perform more complicated maneuvers. The game itself was very game-y and that was perfectly fine. As a fan of Lord of the Rings, I found everything in this game that referenced the source material to be terrible, from Gollum's completely pointless inclusion to Celebrimbor spouting one liners from the books and movies. The story itself was likewise really flat and boring. But hey, the core gameplay was fun.
