After playing ffxi for about 2 years, I can honestly say that I'm very excited for this. If SE can fix all of the shortcomings that ffxi has, the main one being ' you NEED a group to exp at an acceptable/decent pace' then this will be a great game. Don't get me wrong, the basic premise of an online rpg is to adventure with other people and share in those great experiences, however levelling up is a staple in any rpg and to constantly wait for 5 other people to go out killing things (not to mention competing for xp camps) has hindered my experience with the game. If I didn't have great friends and an awesome linkshell (the equivalent of a guild in other mmo's) I would have left that game long ago.

I also agree with the fact that final fantasy 'xi' has everything the other ff's have, in fact ffxi does it better; boasting one of the greatest storylines in ff games (or any other rpg) to date... the only problem is, and again, it's difficult to get 5 other people (sometimes 17) on the same page to complete some of those storyline battles. Although, when a certain level of teamwork is achieved in the game, it's possibly one of the greatest things you will ever witness.

Lets hope for a better structure and interface for Final Fantasy XIV, I'm already looking forward to it.

Nah, the world is not going to end.

Apparently the mayan calender stops on dec. 21(?) 2012 so the real question: Is that because there is an end of the world prophecy? or has the other part of the calender not been found yet?

Either way, most end of the world theories are jibberish, although I can see there being a war of some sort.

I still haven't found a SFIV gamepad so I use the xbox 360 D-pad, which doesn't work all too great for me...

I'll go check out the stock again today.

MGS4 was probably the only reason for me to go and buy a PS3, if it does come out on the 360 I would be really happy.

Lets hope for some good news eh?!

I've been playing FFXI for about 2 years now and it's the only online rpg I've played (or will ever play, because like you I'm not too keen on them... I tried FFXI only because it was part of a universe that I was a fan of).

When I first started playing everything was so difficult to get: equipment, gil, exp you name it, but as the years went by SE made alot of changes, the most notable one being 'level sync'. Normally what would happen is that you'd need to find 5 other people, in the range of 1-2 levels higher or lower than you, to from an 'exp party' to beat up mobs. With level sync you can ask anyone, anywhere to join you and they will all 'sync' to whatever level your on until the party is finished. So in a sense it is much easier to level in the game, but level sync came with its share of problems too (ie. not being able to skill up certain attributes is a pain sometimes). To put it bluntly, FFXI is actually not too bad when you have a group of friends to play with on a constant basis. Especially on the Gil side of things, since having friends around means you can always count on assistance to defeat a mob that drops a high selling item. Then again, not everyone playing would have a good amount of friends so it becomes more of a solo experience; which leads us to your question.

I've felt frusterated at times when I have to 'farm' mobs for items so that I can sell them and attain gil from them (it's kinda like ffxii's loot system) but I wouldn't be able to because 3 or 4 people would be in the zone farming them, thus not giving me an ample chance. So I've wanted, like an offline mode where it would be single player only, no missions but to have all quests available and to be able to farm without hinderance... that probably wont happen because of all the security issues revolving around the game already.

Having a single player experience would actually be really awesome in that you could see the awesome storyline evolve in a quicker, memorable pace and you could experience the sheer size of the game without anything holding you back. Could FFXI be a single player game? Yeah totally, but if it was I probably would not have made the awesome friends I have, friends that I will probably still talk to when all is said and done. Not to sound too cheesy but, friendship is probably the theme of ffxi and it's one of the main reasons I keep playing the game.

hmmmm... probably:

Secret of Mana

Final Fantasy VI
Street Fighter Alpha 2
Chrono Trigger
Ace Combat 4 : Shattered Skies

Ace Combat 4 was one of the first games in which I completed absolutely everything; All S rank's in all difficulties, all aircraft/weapons purchased etc.

It was also one of the last games that I completed everything in...

must be getting old or something

I've had the E74 error a few times, but have yet to get the rings (knocks on all kinds of wood).

It's great that Microsoft is providing the service to fix the machine for free though, good of them to acknowledge their mistake and do 'something' about it.

Finishing off my major in Chemistry/ minor in Computer Science then I'll probably head over to Medicine.

If that doesn't work out, I'm going to take a full 180 (or 90) and go either Computer Science or Computer Information Systems. I like the idea of developing a new technology for the world.

There's more than one way to make the world a better place, right?

Yeah it'll come out, and hopefully it will be worth the wait (I know it will be, but you never know these days).

I'm awaiting the NA release date of Parasite Eve : The 3rd Birthday... at least I hope there is an NA release announced soon.

"
Ooh yeah, though i should probably play the other two first.
"
Yeah, the other two are awesome games in their own right.

I remember buying Parasite Eve 1 almost half a year before I even had a PS1, all because I liked the look of the game so much and how it played. Parasite Eve 2 took me a while to find, but I was stoked when I did.
