Interesting, could work, but they still will really need to resolve how to physically move around without a controller.  I also have to half-wonder how accurately the Kinect would read how one moves.  Seems like that'd make designing AI trickier than if it was just with a controller:  if the AI is that of a real swordsman, a gamer won't survive past the first fight.  Hope they do some developers' diaries on this.

I'm not altogether surprised.  Honestly, I don't think it's coincidence that they make this announcement and talk about the Fox Engine at the same time.  My guess is the need for the Fox Engine arose out of work on Rising when they found it took much, much longer to complete the game for multiple platforms.  They are probably pushing back Rising's release date to give adequate time to finish it.  I imagine they're having to finish Rising "the old fashioned way," and then any future projects they can finish in a more timely manner with the Fox Engine.  I applaud Kojima's foresight.

@fisk0: That's what I've been wondering too.  I've checked whether I have the 30 days of PS+ by adding PS+ exclusives to the cart and I keep getting told about needing to subscribe.  I wonder if that's the part of the "Welcome Back" program they don't have up-and-running yet.   Not having had PS+ before, I kind of wanted to use these 30 days to test it out.

If they feel like they can produce a product they can stand by for consoles then I'm game.  It's anybody's guess as to what it might be if it's something new.  I'd be okay with a compilation of the two games and maybe using the Witcher 2 engine, but it's CD Projekt's call.

@MAST: Thanks for being very reasonable and level-headed about this.  I was pleased to see this development, but hesitant to read the comment section since people have gotten understandably upset (it's tried me, too).  I do seriously hope Sony ends up helping everyone out in the way you describe.  You even make subscribing to PS+ like something I'd want to do.

@Tennmuerti: I think I have to agree with you.  There is more of a development with Altair than Ezio.  Altair is still really, really cold, but you can tell the internal clockwork runs differently by the end.  Ezio's changes are primarily gameplay-wise, and in being the instigator of changes in the story.  It's great gameplay and story, but I also like to see character development where possible.  That's why I agree with others about focusing on Desmond sooner than later:  by now, we all know Desmond, and are rooting for him.

I kind of get the feeling Ubisoft sort of shot themselves in the foot with Assassin's Creed.  It's really a unique franchise and has a very different gameplay approach, but the mechanics of it borrows so much from its other two preceding franchises--namely Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell--that they kind of have to put all their money in one pot.  They've made it so that it's difficult to go back to those other franchises without it feeling like a rehash of something now reinvented in AC.

That's not to necessarily chiming into the "give us 10 more ACs" concern, but I think the only way they could break from only having this franchise is to create an all-new IP.  As for whether they go back to Altair or not, I could probably care less.  AC1 was what it was, and there are parts of it I liked quite a bit (the near-final duel where you take on a dozen crusaders after talking to King Richard was frustrating at first, but then was pretty cool once you got it to finally "click" and all the moves went together like a dance; I couldn't help smiling when that happened).

This is something that will affect different people in different ways.  I'm personally aware that identity theft is a problem, but it hasn't happened to me or anyone I know so I am at a loss in that respect.  I think it's not unreasonable for people to take precautions because of that, but I think it's also possible to have a more measured response about this without getting too focused on the worst case scenario.  Prepare for it or even anticipate it, but still be open to the possibility you may not be affected.  I haven't had any real problems with Sony or the PS3 up until this point, and I haven't noticed anything off with my bank account.  Yet, of course, but we'll see.

It's a double-edged sword with this:  this resulted from one hacker getting the root key and another exploiting it, but it's also on Sony's head because this security breach was hardware related and essentially something they cannot fix without all new hardware(as had been pointed out to me in a comment section yesterday).  So . . . I'd be making an understatement if I said this was a messy situation.  I won't deny Sony the opportunity to learn from this, though, but I think there have been enough PR nightmares in the past few years to help them on that front.  That being said, I'd rather they be thorough first and know the full scope of the situation than make a premature statement and backtrack.

The only perspective I have a hard time sympathizing with are those taking an extreme response, the type of responses that sound more like comments made on yahoo.news.com than someone just realizing they need to do what they need to do to cover their bases.

I am least inclined to blame Sony for this.  Should they have had a more stalwart system in place?  Sure, but there wasn't a known potential for this to happen until the PS3 got hacked.  Now there are people pointing fingers at Sony for this, and it's not really their doing.  Sometimes this is the way you learn there are gaping holes, and it sucks.

This is why they pursued the lawsuit and tried to close the floodgates, but the PS3 crack already got through.  My bank information is on PSN as well, but I also regularly check my account and can contact my bank very quickly about an off purchase.  I can't go online to change my password since PSN is down, so I'm just going to be vigilant and see what happens.

I wish Sony could do more than react, but it wasn't someone from Sony who published the way to hack into the system.  All this does is show that Sony had reason to be concerned from the original hack.  I say let them clean this up, and hopefully move on with a more secure PSN.

@Winternet: Sort of the vibe I was getting.  Moreso, a Planescape: Torment type of world came to mind, but I'm glad Bungie is (hopefully) trying something new here.  A lot of words pointing to possible after-life, celestial images.  We'll see, but I'm game if these are legitimate considerations Bungie is making.
