Shenmue did a great job of capturing my imagination back when I was between the ages of 11-14. However to make a sequel to it now wouldn't turn out well in my opinion. So much in gaming has changed since then and the stuff that impressed me and kept me hooked 10 years ago would just be annoying now. You could really modernise it and make Shenmue 3 play like other open world games but then it wouldn't really be Shenmue.
From what I've seen so far this game looks like the definition of 8 out of 10. So with the lack of games being released at the moment I'm definitely buying it day one.
As a Gamer and huge football (soccer) fan I can tell you that it's common to all interests and basically anything that you invest time in. I've never really argued seriously with anyone on a video game related subject, but I'm not surprised that it happens. Some people have a bigger urge to get their point across no matter what the subject.
The only way that I think video games have affected me is that I feel that if there actually was a zombie apocalypse I would feel slightly more prepared for it. Not saying I'd survive till I was old and grey, but I'd at least grab a weapon, some food and barricade myself somewhere high to begin with.
