Ugh he's playing a Soldier too? The fuck man. You play a Soldier in every other game out there. Why be a Soldier when you can be a god damn space wizard?
The shitty thing is his opinion and thoughts on it are going to be swayed by all the bitching and moaning that's gone on. The game has been out for a long time now, and the arguments ran wild. I would've liked to have gotten his thoughts on the game when it first came out. His enthusiasm for the game just waned and dropped constantly, to the point where it seemed like he was just forcing himself through it. A lot of that has to do with Jeff I think, who just has a bad attitude towards the game. He makes it seem worse then it really is (in fact it's not a bad game at all, it's a really good one). It's fine to think it's not better then ME2, but that doesn't automatically make it terrible.
I don't really like those options. You need an extra on in there like "This year was pretty good" instead of just going into "ZOMG AMAZING".
Anyways I thought it was a solid, good year. Last year was fantastic and I think maybe that's jaded some people. Combine that with games like ME3, Diablo III, and Max Payne 3 disappointing fans of their respective series, and it's easy to think this year was a bust. Personally I loved all three of those games and they were among my favorites this year. Add to that games that people really seem to love like Dishonored, X-Com, The Walking Dead, and the plethora of downloadable games (like Dust, Mark of the Ninja, etc.) and you have yourself a good year.
Are there actually multi-platform games that don't have controller support? I can't remember any in a long time. It's the only good thing GFWL ever did.
FEAR 2 doesn't and Mass Effect 3 didn't.
What? Did I play ME3 with a mouse? That's surprising.
Unless they patched in controller support or you used XPadder or something, you played Mass Effect 3 on PC with a mouse. I remember people complaining about it.
EDIT: For the record, unless a game is specifically designed in a way that using a gamepad would be nearly impossible, it's a good bet that most modern games on PC will have controller support of some sort. FEAR 2 and ME3 are the only console ports I can name that didn't have mouse support, and I'm not even sure if FEAR 2 is a port. That game played weirdly on 360.
All of the Mass Effect games on PC don't have controller support.
Which blows my mind honestly. No idea how that hasn't been patched in or whatever at this point.
While it can't compete with the likes of Mass Effect 3 and Assassin's Creed 3 in terms of squandered narrative potential (those two games having been built up as the ultimate conclusions to their respective trilogies), Dishonored has a flaccid, underwhelming finale that really flies in the face of what made the rest of the game good. It deserves a mention for that. Also for being totally cool otherwise.
EDIT: Obviously I'm talking about the "Worst Ending" award, of which there are many candidates this year.
If the crew actually does that award I doubt it'll be ME3. They seemed mostly indifferent to it and didn't get caught up in the out rage.
Something about that just seemed right to me and it hit me hard. I thought of it in the same way when Princess Leia says "I love you" to Han Solo and he just says "I know" in return instead of "I love you too". Saying "I'll miss you" just seemed to lack a bit of punch. Sounds stupid, but that's how I felt at the time.
Yes. It really is an awesome console. Even just little things like using the Gamepad as a TV remote, and I love the Miiverse. It's just cool seeing people's messages and comments. It gives the whole experience a real sense of community. I feel like we are all just enjoying ourselves and sharing our joy. You don't get that with the 360, PS3, or PC.
Just watched the video in the OP. Really great stuff. I honestly don't care what Bioware says, I'm a fan of the indoctrination theory. Not because I was one of the angry people about the ending (in fact I was completely fine with it), but because it really is a fascinating theory that makes a ton of sense. There are plotholes regardless of what you believe though.
The two videos I've linked to above are a two part documentary on the Indoctrination Theory. Watching them now, and they seem to break every down piece by piece. All of this just reminds me how much I love this series. Say what you will about the ending or the third game in general, but people are still talking about it. That's a powerful effect and lasting impression.
