Suing Sony

I think I'm finally at that point. While I'm a firm believer in Capitalism, I also belive in holding people (and corporations) accountable for their actions.  The lack of security, the removal of promised functionality, and the most grievous error, keeping us in the dark about our personal security has pushed me over the edge. I'm sorry Sony, but you have failed miserably.

You aren't serious are you? You might want to take a few steps back and take a good, hard look at the situation and then realize its not worth it. And then, you can thank me for calming you down.

These two things aren't mutually exclusive. In fact, capitalism necessitates the latter.

No but im sure there will be.  As it seems they should have notified people that their info could have been accessed day 1.

Don't be an ass. Nothing is completely secure. Hackers could get into the most hardened and secure system on the planet if they tried hard enough.

So far as the other stuff goes, there's probably something in the long-ass agreement you have to agree to in order to create a PSN account that covers it.

To the hacker that has brought Sony to its knees: Please don't steal my credit card. My bank account is low enough as it is, all you'd end up with is $5, some mixed change, and a few dead flies.

Their security was obviously breached, and took the service down to try and help protect everything.  Along the way they are finding out exactly what happened and are trying to tell us as they find out.  Sony is as in the dark as we are I think.  Good luck proving otherwise in court.

I did no such thing. But since you mention it, we are kind of better, since we don't have the automatic impulse of suing over dumb shit.
That's right, I said it.

I say we create a gang of hackers to stop the hackers that are messing with sony. Those hackers have extended their powers for too long, and they must be stopped for the order of the cyberverse!

Actually there is plenty of legal grounds for suing sony.  It is all but guaranteed that a suit will happen and I am sure tons of people will be involved in it.

No because that's a stupid fucking comparison. Meanwhile, there's legal precedent for suing based on what happened with Sony.

I'm not sure why you think they would account for something in the fine print that they clearly didn't prepare their network for.

But seriously, people should only sue if they have been severely harmed, physically or financially. I would dare to say that we haven't reached that point yet.

So let me get this straight... I am having a real diffuculty with your post.

You have no idea, what so ever about what happend do you?

' I also belive in holding people (and corporations) accountable for their actions' I don't think it was Sony that hacked their own server... actually no your right I'm sure Sony wanted this to happen so they hacked themselves for the good publicitiy.

' The lack of security' Again, lack of is different to insufficent, I am not suing my government for lack of sucirity if my house is broken into. Do you really think Sony went 'Well our stuff isn't encrypted should we do something about this? No not really.' I have an encrypted file it's DEAD easy to do and I'm sure Sony has the same, I'm not hacker but I'd imagine that AT best at the moment all these users have is the encrypted folders and files, and UNTILL you are effected you have no right what so ever in suing Sony you self rightous. Heck, if you steal my laptop you'd HAVE all of my stuff, but it'd take you a MILLION years to force the details out, it's 768bit encryption, Sony's probably using the same.

' The removal of promised functionality, ' Linux right? You have a PC right? INSTALL LINUX ON YOUR COMPUTER IT'LL RUN BETTER. MY 850Mhz 256mb ram computer runs Linux better than my PS3 which I used, I'm not suing sony and nor should you. Your complaining because you like to, you don't really care Linux is gone, because it WASN'T really there. Download Ubuntu 11.10 and then put it on your PC then talk to me about it.

'
keeping us in the dark about our personal security has pushed me over the edge' Oh you work on servers? Excellent. No? Then shut-up, do you have any idea what the staff who haven't slept for days are going through, basically they received a warning then PULLED EVERYTHING. I don't think you suing them will make the situation any better, so do CORRECT thing, cancel your card and then SHUT UP. Amazon went down, I'm not suing Amazon, because a server is incredibly complex, MORE THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE. It's not all Windows GUI you know, there's code, work in the terminal learn C++ or what ever then, and ONLY THEN can you imagine how long it takes to resolve a problem on this scale.

I'd say having to change your bank account information because of an unprepared-for leak (apparently my autocorrect knew about the plant) but multiplied by several million people should be catalyst enough for Sony to offer some kind of settlement so they don't fucking bankrupt themselves over this.

It is fairly standard liability coverage in most EULA agreements that the information you give the holder is not their responsibility. Also, as people voluntarily gave their information to Sony, there is no civil liberty being violated.

That being said, it appears that Sony posted todays update (confirming the possible theft of personal information) only after they were contacted by a Congressman about the issue. So fuck 'em, as that certainly makes it appear that they knew of the personal information breach but didn't want to admit it to avoid negative publicity.

I don't think Sony has confirmed cards being stolen. I know it seems like a serious situation, and it is, but take some deep breaths and lets see what Sony has dug up.
