Prepare for a whole new generation of RROD

You mean the BoneROD ? I'm going to wait awhile until the reports come out about whether either of these new consoles have lot's of crippling defects.

I'd recommend Sanitarium from the late 90s. It's a spooky & amazing game and if it weren't for a few spoilers on the Internet, I'm not sure I would have got through it. Once you understand some of the mechanics it gets easier though.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanitarium_%28video_game%29

Another one that was similar to Sanitarium was The Suffering: Ties That Bind that came out in the mid 00s. It's not quite point & click but had some janky 3rd person movement and combat (however most of the combat is puzzlers). I'm not one to get scared but both of these games were pretty spooky & the tension from the music could really make you hustle at certain parts of the game.

But too bad they're old games & not backwards compatible to future platforms.....oh wait, they're on a PC.

I recall paying $400 for 256M (or 512M?) back in the early 90s. There is cycle on most hardware pricing. If PC sales are down, they won't manufacturer as much, means the cost will go up. I think there has been a lag in PC sales. Could also be more competition from other countries for silicon resources to build RAM, etc, making the prices go up. Lastly: inflation. Interest rates are rumored to be going up, making our cash worth less than it is currently.

They still need 360 backwards compatibility to get me on board. If they included it from the start it would have been a no-brainer.

Well games tend to be very large and you can run out of disk space. I don't want to delete/re-download/manage some game later (because the process of having to re-download and wait awhile for it to get here, pretty much means you won't bother with it). Further, for $60, I want to have a physical item and the Blu-ray or DVD will be my backup of the game. If XBL should get hacked and go down for a few weeks, I don't have to wait for Softy to get XBL up and running in order to download my game. Note that I love Steam, but I rarely pay more than $30 for a game and if I find out that I can get the game in a box and can load it on Steam as well, then chances are I will buy the disk & hook it to Steam (Case in point: Civ 5 and Civ 5:Gods and Kings).
Also Steam has its own backup system so you can store your games locally to an external drive, rebuild your PC, then put the whole Steam on the new system.

I don't see anything to "fear" about having to have everything digital. I can't stand DLC either and when I know a game is going to produce tons of it, I'll usually wait for the GotY edition and then buy it on Steam, usually as a sale (Such as Deus Ex: Human Revolution + DLC for $10 on a Steam sale). Some games I'll have to get the DLC, such as Mass Effect series, but these games are few and far between. However, if EA's going to crank out a yearly Mass Effect like they do with Call of Duty, I'll probably skip the release and wait for the discount or not even bother. I'm not a big fan of cash-grabbing franchises.

Microsoft just put out a new Xbox 360 model & there are more new 360 games on the way. I don't think they will look at an add-on 360 BC to the Xbone until after the 360 officially shuts down. My guess is that since they're asking $500, it probably cost another $100 to throw in 360 BC into it. They don't want to lose sales on the latest 360 model either because if Xbone came with full BC support, nobody would buy it. With Moore's Law, after another 18 months or so, probably the Xbone can afford 360 BC & they'll add it on due to the overall crap sales of Xbone up to that point. I'm going to sit on the fence & see if happens. Otherwise, I'll just stick to the PC & not be hassled with the hardknox law of Consoles. So far, I get a headache whenever I think about the Xbone, don't care for its appearance either.

Not entirely true.

1) Backwards compatibility in the PS2 didn't exactly make the PSone (specifically the redesign) redundant, because the lower price point was still appealing to some people.

2) Like the PS3 before them, Microsoft is already at a shitty price point with the Xbone, so anything they can do to lower the price without interfering with their overall vision for the product is a no-brainer.

3) The last/current generation saw backwards compatibility get gradually phased out on all three consoles: Wii redesigns killed the Gamecube support, PS3 quickly dropped PS2 support, and Microsoft quickly got tired of offering emulation patches for the OG Xbox on the 360. Even in cases where backwards compatibility has been worked back in via firmware updates (Xbox Originals, PS2 Classics, and Virtual Console to some extent) it's usually in a very instanced matter that does a poor job of representing the back catalogue.

There was an interview with an engineer & the guy seemed to be thinking about something with the 360 & Xbone.
Games on the PS2/Original Xbox weren't that good to really want to play many of them. Although I liked Doom 3 &
The Suffering, even though that last game had horrible controls. Further, the 360 library is much larger than Original
Xbox & it seems like too many games to waste. But we'll see. If they're not going to offer a way for me to use my
360 games on the new system, I won't have much incentive to get an Xbone. I prefer my game collection to stretch
back in time. On a PC, this is pretty easy to do & for the most part the only space it takes up is the hard drive or a
a book shelves.

Maybe Microsoft is shorting their own stock, they make Xbone flop & then make money off the stock crash?

Anyhow, looks like I'll be happily playing Titanfall on the PC, probably through a Steam purchase. :-)

Actually, since it's published by EA chances are it won't be on Steam.

yep, thats definitely going to be tied to origin.

That also explains why it has that "Call of Duty" style shooter interface to it. Didn't
know it was EA. Oh well, I don't need to play it that badly. Perhaps some other
game designers will build their own FPS Mech game for the rest of us.
