The only thing worse than naive gamespot employees are elitist customers that think they are better than everyone else.

Seriously, these guys get paid minimum wage.  it would be ideal if it was a hiring requirement to have a deep knowledge of games, but that's what higher paying jobs like game testers / QA are for.

Are you making this post because you're concerned that the customers who don't have a lot of gaming knowledge won't be helped very well, or are you posting this just to mock the employee?

To me, the Giantbomb awards came down to simply what games they enjoyed playing, not necessarily what games are the best, or what games deserve to win. Watch Drew's reason for giving "Borderlands" his personal Game of the Year, if you don't believe me.

Is there anything wrong with that?  Not really, different gaming site staffs have different preferences.  It is professional?  I'm not one to say.  I agree with you on Demon's Souls, it's a wonderful game, it's just not their cup of tea.

We'd be fools to believe that there is not some sort of bias on every single gaming site, including this one.  That's the beauty of having lots of site choices, you get to take in lots of different opinions.  GameSpot awarded Demon's Souls both PS3 game of the year and overall game of the year.  Again, a site with different opinions, and nothing wrong with that.

It's also pointless to try to convince someone a game is great, if they really don't like it, even if it's a well crafted game.  Different people have different taste.  I, for one, can't stand Modern Warfare 2, and no one will convince me otherwise.  The same goes for me trying to convince someone who doesn't like Demon's Souls, that it's game of the year.

" Gamespot gave Demon's Souls a 9.0 out of 10.  Gamespot gave Uncharted 2 a 9.5 out of 10.  Demon's Souls beat out Uncharted 2 for Gamespot's Game of the Year.   Someone help me out on this one.  Was there a consensus against Uncharted 2?  Did everyone EXCEPT the guy who reviewed Demon's Souls think it was that good?  I'm really confused.  Am I putting too much importance into the score number?  I don't know, but it just strikes me as extremely odd. "
You may be putting too much emphasis on the score.  9.0 was Kevin VanOrd's score.  The GoTY decision was a result of meetings all the editors have been having since November.

" I can't believe that it got chosen to be honest.  Sure it's a great game, but GOTY material should be something that changed the face of gaming that year, or came as close as it will do that year.  Hence... Uncharted 2 "
Explain to me how Uncharted 2, which is admittedly a kickass and stellar game, and an improved SEQUEL, "changed the face of gaming."

The movie sucked, but "Lady in the Water."

Also American Beauty, The Thin Red Line.  I generally like scores by James Newton Howard or Thomas Newman.  Hans Zimmer is also cool.

I've always hated the 360 branding.  In my opinion, branding should be color neutral.  A big green logo ruins the box art for some games.  RE5 is a good example.

Please tell me why Survival Horror cannot contain a "rescue mission."  (that must mean most Survival Horror games aren't Survival Horror?).  But since you know exactly what the definition of "Survival Horror" is (even though the rescue mission thing means most of your list isn't in the genre, as well as most other games), please tell us what the definition is.

I understand how merchants contradict "survival," but please also explain why every Resident Evil game has to be a survival horror thing.

And I'm still not understanding why remakes don't count as well...

I'm not sure why, but I keep forgetting the title of this game.  To me, it's just the awesome Metroid Castlevaniaish game that I must buy.  Shadow Complex.  Shadow Complex.  Think I got it...
