All Time Favorites

Unordered and forever growing, this is a list of my favorite games of all time.

List items

  • I can't remember if it was the first or second game that I spent the most time with. Maybe it was both!

  • I'm cheating and putting the whole series on here, because every Forza Horizon game has surpassed its predecessor to become my favorite racing game of all time. Well, maybe this isn't entirely true; I might prefer 3 just a bit over 4, and I put nowhere near as much time into 2 as I did 1. But the point stands. This series strikes an outstanding balance, offering a satisfying amount of real-world driving simulation but without the constraints of traditional circuit racing.

  • I don't especially care for the story of GTA V at all, nor any of its characters. For me, it's the hundreds of hours that I've put into GTA Online. That thing was a horrible mess at launch, but over time became something like a modern version of Second Life with guns, awesome cars, and explosions. The character and vehicle customization is wild, the weapons numerous, the hijinks endless. This is a game I've stayed up to near sunrise playing with friends, doing everything from racing cars, pulling off heists, flying planes, buying property, and really anything else you can think of. It began to veer a bit too heavily into pay-to-play territory in recent years, and I don't think I have the patience for the loading screens and disconnects anymore. But I have endless memories with this thing.

  • Similar to GTA Online, I've seen the sun rise playing Minecraft. Even after many hundreds of hours, I never quite expanded my house building strategy, and I still couldn't tell you half of what's possible in this game. Minecraft was successful enough for me as a great chat room that lets you play virtual LEGOs with friends before stealing their resources and dying in a cave on an expedition, losing everything.
