It's so funny that everyone only talks about things "rounding up". In the Netherlands we haven't had cents since 1980. And prices are rounded up *and* down. So yeah, €9.99 will set you back €10 if paid by cash, but if you buy three (different) items, the .97 gets rounded down to .95 . So it all balances out. And all electronic payments are still exact anyway. Fun fact: in 2002 the Euro was introduced with 1 cent and 2 cent coins. Within a year they were removed again and there was much rejoicing.
