Reading up, played the demo. looks like Indigo Prophecy better realized without matrixy stuff in. gritty. was already excited. I appear to be the targed audience
58 is pretty low... dunno if the game deserves better until I play it... but love for the source material probably means I will enjoy the hell out of it even if it sucks. again, maybe it is broken, isn't out yet, but 58 seems low. never expeced more than a 7 range (on 10pt). but being a member of the target audience helps with a lot of games.
meh. as long as it isn't a replacement, it is a good idea. now I won't have to get my lazy ass over to wal mart if I want to play something new. I have a bunch of games installed already. we'll see... I might do it with one or two games. not my entire library.
VATS was cool. what's your prob peeps. FO 3 was not a FPS with rpg elements. In fact, there is no reason an FPS cannot be an RPG. Role playing is just that, you have a single character who you can modify with stats (even that is a fairly strict definition.) The term first person shooter doesn't infringe on Role Playing Game in any manner. The combat doesn't have to be turn based or clickety clickety clikety to be be an RPG (X-men Legends, Kingdom Hearts). FPSRPG could be its own subgenre. However, I wouldn't call Fallout 3 a strict FPS in any case. Vats added a turn based system and I dug it. It was a good system.
We should be asking for improvements on that system. I want things like targed melee and better rewards for targeting limbs. Enemies that don't just pick up their weapon again and shoot you as if you hadn't just blown their weapon out of their grasp. Weapon breakage and better crippling effect would be cool. Also... maybe dismemberment doesn't necessarily mean death? you could have a raider crawl towards you after you blow his leg off. Maybe VATS executions and finishing animations for enemies with low health? Dunno about that last part, it could be really wonky.
As for the quests, Fallout's quests were WAAAAY better than Oblivion's. Simple fetching and dungeon clearing quests are played out. I really dug the branching, moral dillema quests in Fallout 3. Maybe dump a bunch of the fetch and clear the dungeon type quests on top of the 32 more complex ones.
BTW - slot machine gun? brilliant. It wouldn't be that hard to make it make sense in vegas. You could get the schematic from a guy obssessed with lady luck. Three lightening bolts means electrical damage. Three Snowflakes means ice damage? cool. Maybe there is a cult who worships the raw power of chance. Like rolls dice in order to determine if they have you kill somebody. Any maybe they are in charge of the guards in that area. You could need to kill somebody and you bring their name to this group. They roll the dice and decide if they are going to let you kill that person. It could actually be random.
