I look for informed opinions, clever analysis and most importantly honesty. Even if I disagree with everything a writer says (be it in a blog or anywhere else), I can appreciate someone sincerely trying to piece together the state of the interactive entertainment industry for the sake of discourse. 
 
Nice, clean formatting helps; anything to make the read a little easier. Video content is okay, but too many people record long-winded video blogs that don't really have anything to say, so its not a make-or-break thing. Hope this helps!

I can tell ya; I avoid "Top 10" lists as much as I can.

I like creative layouts and custom images as a bonus, but I mainly look for blogs with personality.  Many people will write about the same stuff at the same time, so having a definitive personality stands out to me.  If the writer is clever and has a good sense of humor, it makes an even greater leap forward on my list.  Failed humor can cripple a blog though, so pay attention to feedback.

As for the content itself, I'm not so picky.  Make it a showcase for yourself.  Try to keep it game-related though (that's why everyone is here after all).  I've always enjoyed brainstorming changes that can be made to specific games to improve them or reinvent them, but I don't know if anyone would want to read that kind of stuff.  I really enjoy insightful comments about issues involved with game development decisions, demographics, public perception, etc.  If you have the setup and are a good speaker, then doing your own videos is interesting.  Such as DLC reviews and such.

People who don't QQ all the time because their boss has a pony tail and they have to work at a game store or don't know what to do with their lives so they blog about starting their own websites...about games

I look for personal stories and views of issues related to gaming.

A good blog entry should be entertaining above all else, but also needs to be original and well-written if you want anyone to read it. That's what I usually look for when I'm browsing the user blogs. Not that my own blog entries reach such high standards of journalistic excellence or anything, but there are quite a few about on Giant Bomb that are pretty good.

There are those I know, that write blogs for popularity, hits and views. They also tend to be unintelligently written and with no interest for the industry in general.   Those are not the blogs I follow.  LIke yours Slunks, I read blogs written by people who just have a down right love for the industry and share an excitement in its future. 

I definitely agree that you need to put your own unique brand on everything. I won't read your blog if it's just a carbon copy of dozens of others just like it. In the modern age of the internet, it is essential that you really inject yourself into everything you do. Establish your own personal style, your own personal brand.

Specific suggestions for a blog. Occasional video content is good, but like what's already been said, keep it brief. I'm not looking to read an entire 10-page diatribe or listen to a 20-minute rant about how playing Ms. Pac-Man changed your life. Be concise. Get to the point. I tend to think that blog posts should serve more as a jumping off point for further discussion rather than serving as some stand alone sermon on the way things are.

I found you directly through your Jordan video: That Question-of-the-Week thing could very well serve as a conduit for you to channel some of your humor/slunks-ish-ness. Think of it less as begging for attention and more as artistic showcasing.And my apologies if I sound pretentious right now. That's kind of my thing."

Hey guys,

So tomorrow is my last day of class, and I've been looking forward to it for the past few weeks. Instead of hardcore studying, I decided to spend some time writing for a second. I've been saying for awhile that my summer is going to be used to start writing about video games again, since I couldn't do it while in college. Unfortunately, I won't be able to join a website or anything like that -- summer is far too short. Instead, everything will be going on this miserable blog. This brings me to my obviously-in-the-title question: what do you guys look for in a video game blog?

Personally, I'm a fan of quick lists, high quality videos, and reviews. However for videos, I cannot stand long-winded vlogs that go on forever. Remember back when they had three minute intros? Yeah, that was pretty bad. I come to ask this because I've noticed once semi-popular bloggers, including myself, seeing some dead traffic. I know this result is because, well, you need to meet people in order to gain traffic. View counts have not really ben what I'm about, but it's nice to have read-worthy content actually being visited. So yeah, tons of stuff coming this way soon, but what do you guys look forward to? What keeps you coming back, and why?

Games Day Report:The Baltimore Games Day event was amazing. I was fortunate to meet and greet with Paul Barnett and Josh Drescher of Mythic Entertainment. Also, lots and lots of WAAAAAAGH screamin' (friend lost his voice)! However, the day was ruined for me at one point when my camera's battery decided to die within an early 30 minutes, so I didn't obtain any interesting footage. Funny enough, I have video of me scoring an interview with Josh Drescher, but not the actual interview (remember about two sentences ago when my camera died? Yeah, I was rightfully pissed off). I may post something extremely small later on, but I highly doubt it. Oh well, I'll talk to them at PAX '09.
