I was looking forward to something smarter and funnier, that skit was just meh. Also I don't know how I even feel about this issue anymore, I would obviously care more if I was underage but some parents out there are too stupid to figure out that certain games can be wrong to buy for their 12 year old or not. Also the idea of less screaming underage kids on Live makes me smile.
I like the Daily Show. Sometimes they actually addresses an issue. And other times they just skirt around it with halfhearted jokes. I never know what to expect!
@Afroman269: Parent's job, not the store's. The little brats have to be getting the money from somewhere do they not? If junior is allowed to have whatever he wants with no parental guidance, that kid and likely society at large is going to have a bigger problem down the road.
@Underwhelmed: I'm mostly with you, but I don't see why this issue should be any different than the one we resolved with movies a long time ago. They're both forms of entertainment, they both may contain content unsuitable for children, but it should ultimately be a parent's decision. There's no reason to get the law involved, or otherwise invoke seriously flawed statistics.
Seems like a 1st amendment issue to me...slap a sticker on it and rely on private industry to self-regulate.
Its really up to the proponents of any sort of ban to prove that the games cause some sort of harm. While I don't want my kids playing something like Grand Theft Auto, I also have all of the power in the situation. Other parents might feel differently. I'd also VASTLY prefer my children saw some sex/nudity than violence..which is backwards from our current system of rating movies and tv shows.
It's sad that they finally chime in on the concept and it's from an external, freelance contributor. Fuckin mac kiddie writers at TDS are too hipstery for videogames.
