Nintendo franchises we need to see again soon.

There's always been a few franchises that Nintendo seems to forget, I really hope any of these series will be back real soon with a real sequel!

4) Star Fox

No Caption Provided
Sure, we've seen the remake not long ago but that's hardly what a true Star Fox fan has been waiting on.
I think I played through Star Fox 64 (Also known as Lylat Wars here) about twenty times, breaking high scores, taking alternate paths and beating the hard version of Star Wolf without a sweat in the end.
The characters were funny and never boring or annoying (even Slippy was just comic relief, like Navi in Zelda the internet just made it seem worse) and the surprise guests like Bill or Kat were always a pleasant addition.
I must add, I loved Star Fox Assault, especially the mulitplayer.
There's gold in those there airships, the dogfighting is grand and some of the levels in Assault were made for just that purpose I believe.
I can only hope that a new Star Fox will have a pleasant mix of all range mode and on rails shooting, as both are strong points of the franchise and I'm sure there's much to be done with it.

Star Wars The Old Republic kinda scratched that itch with this level, but I wanna Star Fox again!
You chase down a Dreadnaught that's been heavily damaged, the level throws all kinds of stuff at you.
While you dodge lasers, fighters and even huge assault ships that try to block your advance with some upside down blockading you have to disable the giant ship as much as you can for your allies, and their own big ships, to finish the job.

3) F-Zero

I'll give, I'm not one for racing, at all, but F-Zero and in particular it's icon Captain Falcon have always been great to follow.
Falcon was a welcome addition to Smash Bros from the first version and the story mode, with gorgeous visuals, on the GC version made it very fun to play.
And hard! Holy shit! That's the best thing about F-Zero innit? Blazing through tight corridors, soaring through the air above insanely cool looking neon cities and rushing along a tube suspended above lava.
I wanna see the Captain back in action, I wanna see speed that makes Wipe-Out fans cry (sorry!) and I want to see futuristic level design that will make you crash into a wall because you were gaping at its beauty.

2) Pikmin
No Caption Provided

Come on, have you played the first or its sequel? It looks great, has a quirky sense of humor and the Pikmin themselves were funny little beasts.
When playing the first and the second I can only remember I was so impressed with the enviroments, the lush look of the fauna and the water that looked so inviting to jump in (and then all your Pikmin drowned, what the fuck!).
All the manner of beasts out to get, or annoy, you were something that gave this game flair too!
From all the types of Bulborbs to the huge birdheads that came out of the ground to commit Pikmin genocide on your happy little squad and to the grotesque bosses, the wild life was varied and believable. They all presented a danger, although easily countered after the first few times, that had you on your toes every time you played.
Sure Pikmin were expendable, you could always get more, but there was a certain something to failing them, you genuinely felt bad.

I still remember the first time I forgot to call several Pikmin back at nighttime, and saw them get devoured as the ships took off.
Breaks my heart.

1) Earthbound
No Caption Provided

Do I need to explain this?
I guess I do, just a little.
I'll admit first that I never finished the game, I played to the second or third town but from what I played I can only hope there will be a remake one day (why isn't there?) and if the gods be good, a sequel!
The music was super catchy, the enemies weird as they come and the plot was pretty darn amazing.
As far as bad guys go, Gigyas was just mentally terrifying, the thing looks like some unborn baby but twisted...I dunno how to explain it but this picture of it gave me the creeps (how's that for immersion?).

No Caption Provided

I hope to see them, Lucas and Ness, back in action soon.
Pit got another shot thanks to Smash Bros, so Ness and Lucas should be next on the list!
But knowing our luck we'll get a ice climbers remake!

Any Nintendo franchises you've been hoping for every E3 Conference?
Still clinging to that copy of Mach Rider? Do tell!

Been waiting forever for a new Pikmin game, I won't believe Nintendo is making one until I see it. Kinda incredible that they didn't managed to get one out for the Wii.

I'd much rather they create a NEW franchise.

Children of this generation are not going to have that Nintendo franchise that they grew up alongside, which is kinda sad.

I very much agree 100%. I also think that a new franchise would be great too like Hizang said.

Maybe Actraiser can be revived...

It's kinda messed up that the last Nintendo franchise was Pikmin, which is TEN years old.

I want a new Advance Wars game, even though they pretty much killed that series.

Hopefully by the time I buy a 3DS (hardware update, or possibly when Luigi's Mansion 2 comes out), they've announced a new Animal Crossing for 3DS- that goes double if they streamline the shit out of it.

A new franchise would be nice just to show that Nintendo isn't all about bringing nostalgia back to gamers, but I really want to see F-Zero return soon!

I'm with you on Pikmin; Incredibly fun and charming as hell. Shame on Nintendo for milking their other franchises while one of their best is ignored.

Yoshi's Island, Wario Land, Animal Crossing (on consoles, not 3DS), Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (Konami owns this I guess), Nester's Funky Bowling (i'm half joking, but it could work with wii controller).

Yay replies!

I'm with you on new franchises but then I remember Pikmin.
They made 2 games, remade it for the Wii and then ignored it.
I rather not have them come up with new cool franchises if they're gonna do jack with it anyway!

@TaliciaDragonsong Yeah, I know it's coming, but I think it's "coming" in the same way Super Smash Bros. for 3DS is eventually "coming". TBA release date... though I guess there is a Japanese trailer out there, so that's rad.

@TooWalrus: Yeah I was gonna say, at least its trailered and it's real!
So far they're saying work on Smash Bros hasn't even started!

I must admit, I tried the last Animal Crossing on the Wii, the city game, and I was burned out on it in like an hour.
It's a great game no doubt but if you've done it once, as I had on the gamecube, there's really no incentive to do it all again.
At least that's my view on it. Not sure if the 3DS one will have enough to blow me away!

@TaliciaDragonsong: Oh definitely. For me, the definitive Animal Crossing experience was Wild World for the DS. It was basically identical to the Gamecube version, but because it was portable (and everyone had a DS) it was much easier for friends to visit each others towns and get their hands on that sweet, sweet exotic fruit. Of course, that was 7 years ago, and I'm just glad that we don't have to deal with game-specific friend codes anymore, because even though I'm still into Nintendo games as a grown-ass man, a lot of my friends aren't, so it'll be nice to hook-up with some of the online community this time, because I doubt there will be many people around locally. That is, if it's worth playing at all.

A proper Metroid game. Last one was in 03 or 04, and that was a remake. The prime games were good but they're just not the same.

it's the last new Miyamoto-franchise (aside from the "Wii-somethingsomething" series of games), not the last new Nintendo IP

I'm glad they moved the development to Wii U ...just imagine how much better it will look and that you can take advantage of the touch screen while seeing the pikmin crispy clear on both screens! The "New Play Control" versions of Pikmin 1 and 2 are good enough for me until the proper sequel arrives on shiny new hardware :)

How could you say such horrible things... :(

I'm still going to keep hoping... no matter how many years it takes, a 3DS Metroid game is probably the only thing that'd make me buy that system. I was still shocked there wasn't a single Metroid game on a DS.

Fantastic list!

I'd say Kid Icarus too but you know, 3ds made the impossible happen.

I would like to see another Wave Race game too, been geez what ten years since we've seen one of those?

but yeah I'd love to see what new IP they will think up for Wii U. Usually the most exciting stuff imo is whatever is brand new that takes advantage of the new tech. Star Fox was made that way.

Wave Race and 1080 I agree with, I had forgotten those as it's been quite awhile since we heard of those by now!

I really don't care if they bring back old stuff or come up with new franchises but by the gods, let them do something!

Although a mind bender here, loads of people seem to want new things from Nintendo, but all that is (really) selling on other platforms are sequels.
How does that work? What would Nintendo bring to the table in a new franchise that will keep us hooked this time?
(Not doubting them, merely wondering why most new original titles never go as big as Nintendo used to make em, how could they compete again this time if most other attempts are mediocre?)

oh shit, yea! Wave Race!

they really need to widen their approach. not just "for everyone" titles like mario and zelda. I really hope they go back to their gamecube mentality a bit with going for stuff like eternal darkness, geist and stuff like that. and really put some effort into presentation (writing, voice acting) - stuff like disaster: day of crisis and the controversial nature of metroid: other m's story delivery really don't do them any favors.

speaking for just myself here, but I feel like there is a Nintendo method to game design that supercedes genre/setting and lets reliably them make more solid new IPs than their competitors.

part of it I think is that they don't share enough info on their new systems with 3rd party partners in a timely fashion, so the in house guys get extra time and less pressure to experiment with the tech. Which is kind of cheating in a sense I guess.

But I think their big key to success is that all their games feature accessible intuitive tight controls and the games have lots of polish from start to finish. Plus the style components of their games. Nintendo seems to have some of the Apple ethos where design is just as important as functionality. The games have a consistent identity, feel and playstyle from start to finish imo. Most Nintendo games I "get" how to play it within ten minutes.

As a consumer I very rarely wonder what the quality of a Nintendo game will be like and makes me less risk averse to giving a new IP of theirs a chance. Even the fluff stuff like Mario Party are made really well. This company just understands fun.

I feel confident that Nintendo could make great games in any genre they tried. e.g. A Nintendo take on a Dota game (or MOBA if your prefer) I think would be awesome.

Not really sure there's another dev house that has such a long record of excellence around still. A lot of the great ones of recent memory have strayed from the path it seems and lost sight of their in house philosophies, likely victims of their own success (e.g. Bioware, Squaresoft/Eidos).

I dunno what they'll do with the Wii U, but the fact they've had this idea for so long (GBA controllers with the cube, two screens on the DS), makes me think they must have some neat ideas for it.

As much as people bitch about 3rd party support, the Wii was pretty port friendly. Of course, graphics took a huge hit, but there again, yeah, not bad. I see the Wii U with many cool ports from developers.

As for Nintendo, the skies the limit. Real curious to see if their resources are put into full effect for the Wii U. I feel like they held back for the Wii.

@Slag: I agree with what you said, Nintendo's really unique in their way of making games and they always seem to deliver a sound product, even if its not your cup of tea because of genre you can't really deny that it's a bad game.

I'm just hoping there's still room for Nintendo.
Lots of people have grown up and when I think of games everyday I usually forget I even own a Wii.
And that's coming from someone with a Yoshi on her keychain and a Triforce on her shoulder.
Like @Claude:  said, if they put their full resources behind it and team up with some big studios they can deliver an unbeatable flow of high quality titles for when the Wii U launches or soon after.
They've got the franchises, they've got the talent and they've got the money.

With that out of the way STAR FOX! And don't give me that bullshit Star Fox where we spend 2/3rds of the game in the Landsmaster and/or walking around with a rocket launcher. I'm a fox that happens to travel the stars. Arwing levels ONLY!

Pssst, they are making a new Pikmin game.

Either way though; while I do agree with you, I'm more interested in what new franchises they can come up with (that aren't Wii ____).

StarFox is a franchise that I loved growing up, but cannot stand nowadays. Rail based gaming is just too restrictive nowadays to me, unless you hit it on every aspect of the game.

F-Zero is the big one for me. Sega did an incredible job with their turn at the franchise, and I am a bit surprised that we have not seen a new entry to the series on any Nintendo system.
