You know, it used to be hip to rip on Brad NIcholson (or al brads in general) but now it's just getting old.

If you do not wanna read it. Why don't you start your own site and make your own news?

I read the news for what it is, not for the people who write it, and I personally find Brad's style of writing entertaining. Also,

While I completely agree with you, we have to resign ourselves to putting up with his sub-par writing skills for awhile. If you ever read destructoid pre 3 months ago you will see a lot of his posts are of the same quality. I have just decided to not even give the news story a page view unless I see that isn't penned by Brad N.

reporting is just that. you report on something u are more than likely told to report on in most cases by higher ups. i doubt the guys who get sent to darfur or iraq were nuts for those either. just saying. i like that he is honest that he isnt the most well versed in a topic and pushes on all the same with everything he has to work with.. if you wana see examples of bad journalism go to IGN. those fuckers are clueless and full of editorial tripe.

I'm saying I'm looking for accurate information.  Apparently you guys are completely fine with misinformation and sloppy writing.  Theres a difference between having a laid back style of reporting and then just being lazy.   "

I actually read your post, and you make valid points. Brad N's shit seems unnecessary and only kills the buzz im having while surfing GB and expecting the usual staff-driven GB articles. 
 
P.S. i used to defend him at first, and told people to give him a chance and that he's doing a good job, but over time i could see that he's actually a fifth wheel news spammer

I also find that the people saying this site isn't professional are wrong. Just because it's laid back and opinionated, doesn't make it unprofessional. It just means that these guys don't have to deal with all that corporate bullshit other websites do.

He works with what he has and makes it entertaining. I don't see anything wrong with that.

News need to be posted, both Matt and Brad do that now. But yes, they could use some work on making stuff more they own while still crediting other sites.

his articles are fine and he has even managed to scrape a laugh or two out of me. it's news articles, what do you want, tolkien?

I'll step up and say I agree with you, and people who say that nothing is different are kidding themselves. I can tell when its a Jeff Gerstmann article. I know when Ryan Davis is writing about something. They don't just report the news, they put their personalities on paper and make something I don't care about (rap stars leanding their voice to Gears3) seem interesting and something I'm glad I am apart of. What has Brad N done since he's got here? Report the news. I'm sure any person on Giant Bomb who has passed a basic writing class could do his job. When there are full articles dedicated to a new DSi color coming out, I yawn and immediately know who's putting what on the front page. Whiskey Media is a place of personality. A few months back, I had no idea who Will Smith is, but I love that guy now. Who is Brad N?

Hooray. Another person complaining about news on a video game site because "I can go to another site for that." How about you get it through your heads that some of us don't visit other sites.

I never look at his posts because every other website posts it first, shame on me for going to other gaming websites.

I don't come to giantbomb to read news, there are plenty of good sites that specialize in news, which you have to use anyway if you want to all the news.

I just want a customizable site where the original content (videos, podcasts etc.) is the only thing I see in the frontpage news feed.

Wow, just shutup already with this crap.  He posts gaming news here.  Some of you will cry about the smallest things.

The core Bomb crew aren't always the most professional or well-researched guys either, they do their fair-share of shootin' from the hip and making unsubstantiated claims too.

No. He adds plenty of personality... what I'm saying is his news is poorly researched and half assed, and often days late.  I'm sure he's a nice guy. I'm not attacking Brad N.  "

I have enjoyed his Q&A articles a lot.
 
You aren't wrong about a lot of the news posts - and I've even felt like I've needed to 'correct' these articles in the comment thread on more than one occasion, which is obviously something a reader shouldn't be needing to do, even on a game site (if you're gonna present news then run it properly and fact check it) - but I think you're probably being unfair with where you're laying the blame.  The guy is clearly only doing the job he has been employed to do, and his articles should probably be going in front of another pair of eyes before hitting the front page anyway.  
 
The plan with Giant Bomb may have been to 'do things differently' and they have stuck to that for the most part, but 'Phase Two' is where shit gets serious, and here in the real world, hits is still hits.  I think if we want the 'authentic' Giant Bomb content to stick around, we need to accept that the slightly more traditional (maybe even 'cynical') side of games media needs to be there to support it.  The guy is essentially doing the shit work so that the others can flourish.  He has never been properly introduced to the community and it's almost like he's there to take flak whilst GB transitions to being a proper business.  I don't think describing him as unprofessional is warranted or fair at all.

Brad is a pretty swell guy who doesn't afraid of anything.

You're complaining that everyone else isn't the same as you. I don't scour other sites for news, Giant Bomb and the occasional 1UP is all I read, so it doesn't bother me if a news story is taken from another site. 

So what, when theres an Earthquake in China, when other news stations do the story as well do you go all "bitch I can see that same story on every other news station!" 
 
Not to mention Kotaku is an aggregate itself anyway... 
 
I think its valid to complain if you feel its bad, saying "oh you can just not read it" doesnt make the site any better if it really is shit though. However as you have noticed, an air of professionalism is not the main approach to the reporting on this website, and stories where hes merely reporting seem fine to me, albeit ordinary. He doesnt need to get some hot scoop to report it, and it gives us a place to discuss it as a community on the fly. (true you can do this on a forum but its hardly efficient)
