Elliot Maslow and Jason Bourne

Both Elliot Maslow (Lost: Via Domus) and Jason Bourne (The Bourne Conspiracy) are amnesiacs, so would make sensible off-the-cuff decisions based on the situation at hand without prior prejudice.
Plus, Elliot is a photographer, so could use pictures as evidence against other candidates to win, and failing that, Bourne could kick their asses to scare them out of competition.

The life and death of Jack Thompson.

Today, video-gamers the world over rejoice as Jack Thompson is announced as having been disbarred.

Thompson the Terrorist
It's about sodding time.
For what it's worth, I used to respect Thompson. His main ambition was making sure that minors were safe and that stores were following rules.
But then he started to mess with developers lives, and started saying shit about the games themselves, rather than focusing on his original goal. He could have been great, but he burnt out long ago, whilst refusing to fade away...
See, although technically a minor myself, I respect the ideals of at least following the law. The workers at your average Gamespot, or Gamestation, Asda or Best Buy should not be selling M rated video games to minors. And adults should be aware of what their kids are playing. I appreciate that.

But Thompson...his crusade became absurd. It wasn't about stopping kids from playing these games anymore. It didn't even have anything to do with trhe retailers. I think the story that really pissed me off about Thompson was his effort to mail a letter to the mother of an employee of Take2 asking her how she could endorse her sons work in pornography and the encouraging nature of violence. He seemed to have developed a vendetta against games like Grand Theft Auto and was milking that particular tit for all he could get out of it.

...In a perfect world...
...In a perfect world...
I've always said that using media as an explanation for tragic events is nothing more than an exercise in finding the most accesible scape-goat possible, and that's exactly what Thompson was doing. Not to mention the frustration is bought on gamers when he made efforts and claims that he would ban much anticipated games. It wasn't even a case of Sacrificing the enjoyment of a few for the safety of many, seeing as most of those who play these video games are well adjusted normal members of society. He just wouldn't let go of his scape-goat for love nor money.

So there it is. The Life and Death of Jack Thompsons career as an attorney. At least in Florida.
And as many have previously mentioned, now Thompson has a lot of time on his hands to look for jobs that might suit his sort of anarchic hatred of a mostly harmless form of entertainment. Could this prove to be a Catch-22 for we who play games?
Is it a case of having removed the head, 2 more pop up?
I hope not.

Also, having mentioned my prior respect for Thompson, I can only hope the man takes some time to come to terms with what is ultimately an ill-informed prejudice. Maybe he can be the Jack Thompson who deserved respect, rather than demanding it, the Jack Thompson who cared about people, rather than the sales of video games. Maybe he can be Jack Thompson, the attorney rather than Jack Thompson, the dictator.
Only time will tell.

And it started so well...

I was really enjoying Devil May Cry 4. It was cool, and it was a fun exercise in slicing dudes up without doing too much thinking.
Note the past tense. Was.
I managed to get over half way through the game, to Level 13 out of 20 but already the fun was gone. At the end of Level 11, a character switch ensued. No longer was I the young knight Nero, I was the rugged

Nero...
Nero...
hero Dante and honestly, I'm cool with that. For the most part, the characters are identical and the difference between the two aren't bad, just different. But the level design, oh the fucking level design. It just died.
My first mission as Dante (Level 12) was a timed escape from a castle I'd just traversed as Nero. Fair enough, I can dig a bit of backtracking, but the timer just makes you rush it, when you don't need to. I was desperate to get out in time and when I managed with something like 6 minutes left, I felt cheated for missing so many power-ups (you can collect Red Orbs which you can then trade for power-ups).
It was, quite frankly, a shitty level. But ya'know what? Every game deserves a shitty level. It's only fair, and considering the game is made up of 20 levels, I can't hold it against the game to drop the ball once.
It was Level 13 that really pissed me off.
In Level 13, you've got to traverse through Portals to get to a specific area, but the mechanics of the game mean you can go through the same Portal twice and come out at different places, based on your past history of portal-jumping. Fair enough, works in theory, but the theory obviously missed the point when I got trapped in 3 fucking areas with 3 fucking portals that would only travel to each fucking other.
Okay, so that last 'fucking' seems out of place, but I have a thing for cursing in 3's.
Dante...
Dante...

Point here being, if I can't figure out a puzzle (and I'm honestly not very good at puzzles, I'll admit) I like to take my time, trying out different things. That tactic coupled with the portal mechanic has now just made this level impossible to win unless I start over, and now I'm too pissed off for that.
I don't know if I'll ever come back and retry this, but if not: Good job Capcom. You really surprised me with a decent game until Level 13.
I hope you die in an asbestos related fire.

Hopefully The Force Unleashed will arrive tomorrow...

...I maintain that Nero and Dante are the same guy in two different coats...

Oh, Gaming Gods, WHY?!

Sooo...for the past few days I've been playing Devil May Cry 4. I'm a newcomer to the series and frankly, I only picked it up because it was cheap and looked lame enough to write a totally terrible review pointing out all it's flaws.
And so, now I have just one thing to say:
...
I like it ;_;
What the hell...it's a completely ridiculous game, stupid as they come and such an absurd contrast from the horror of Condemned I was playing just one week ago but...this is without a doubt one of the most fun games I've played on this generation of consoles.
Seriously.
I'm talking Top Ten Games of the past 2 years, here and DMC4 would probably get a spot.
Sometimes I hate myself >_<;

So, Hi. How are you?

Well, seeing as you asked, I'm groovy ^_^
I finished Condemned: Criminal Origins a few hours ago before moving on to watch my new favourite film Seven Samurai, by Akira Kurosawa.
See that film if you haven't already.
...
That is all.

Condemned 2 review, online Now!

So...I didn't feel like gaming tonight. I felt like writiing. So I wrote.
Seriously, though, I've been writing all night. For the most part, I've been working on a film script that has been in my head for the past 2 years but I've only just managed to straigjten out. After a while of that, though, I felt I needed some kind of a break, so I decided to just crack on with the Condemned 2 review. Most likely nothing you haven't seen before, but I do draw the best comparison ever so...
My ankle hurts. I crashed my moped into the back of a Mini today. Feel sorry for me.
Oh, and I gave blood earlier.

Shit, Wesman, see what I mean about my blogs being more random than yours?
Sorry for the lack of structure here. I think I'm tired.
...
Meh.

*awkward pause*

Hmmmm.
I finished Condemned 2. I was meaning to write up a review, but given the ending I feel as though I should really play the first game before I come to any conclusions.
Problem there is, I really feel as though I've had my fill of cracking skulls for the moment. So I'll probably play through some of Condemned 1 for a while and if it entices me, then I'll continue;. If not, I'll just start the review for Bloodshot.

I'm tempted to move straight onto Devil May Cry 4...
Watch this space for more news...i guess...

Console consideration and games que.

So I'm finally progressing with Condemned 2. I only have a few more levels to beat but I'm getting somewhere quickly which is nice. Today, I decided to check out the pre-owned section at my favourite gaming store and I picked up a few games pretty cheap. Devil May Cry 4 (I've never played any part of the series) and Ninja Gaiden Sigma (which I've been meaning to buy since launch), both for the PS3. So after Condemned 2 and then Condemned...I might actually play them O_O;

Here's the thing about choosing what console to buy a game from: PS3 is my weapon of choice. If a game is released on PS3 and 360, I'll buy the PS3 version. I just prefer the feel that I'm so accustomed to. I first played skate. on the 360 but bought it on the PS3 because it felt more right to me.
However, there are exceptions. Condemned 2: Bloodshot was released on PS3 and 360, but I still bought it on 360. This is solely because the original Condemned wasd 360 exclusive and as such, if my collection is going to look appropriate, the two need to be on the same console. Trust me, there's logic in there, especially given the 360 box is a solid 3 inches taller than the PS3 boxes. That would just look like an odd pairing...

But yeah, I have a few more days off so hopefully I'll finally hammer the end of Condemned 2 and get down to that review.

I killed the knight! ^_^

And then 5 minutes later, I got owned by what looks like an impossible to kill grizzly bear...
This game...is pushing on my last nerves...

That said, however, I picked up the original Condemned yesterday, I'm hoping to finish the Condemned 2 first but at this rate, I will be throwing the disc into traffic...

Goddamn it!

Today was my day off. I woke up, I watched Lethal Weapon 1 (for like the 50th time).
Then at the end, I thought why not watch Lethal Weapon 2? So I did.
Then Lethal Weapon 3.
After that I was dragged out for a meal. Apparently someone my parents know is going to become honorary President of the United States for a year, or at least that's what you would have thought with all the fuss hanging so thick in the atmosphere.
So I came home, jonesing for more Lethal Weapon and watched Lethal Weapon 4.
Just finished that. Now it's 00:43 and I have work in the morning.
I completely forgot about Condemned 2 and now it's eating up at me.

I just know that tonight, I'm gonna wake up in a cold sweat and start playing through it, probably failing due to tiredness...

God, I have a bad memory.
I'll probably try after work tomorrow (providing I don't try it in the next 8 hours or so...)
