Things I Hate About The Current Generation Right Now

NOTE:  I'm on Twitter, so if you feel like following me, please feel free to do so!  twitter.com/usagi704

Hey everyone!  We all have things we dislike about the current goings-on the gaming industry and here is my current list of things I loathe:

1. Xbox 360's failure to be a dependable piece of hardware

  • I'd still have one otherwise.

2. Friend codes
  • Talk about inconvenience at its worst!

3. PlayStation 3's high price
  • It is easily the reason why the system isn't doing better.

4. Anti-PS3 morons
  • The PS3 is a good system with plenty of good games.  The whole "no good games" argument has been bullshit for a long time now.

5. Lack of PSP support
  • The PSP has turned into a compilation system.  I like compilations and all, but when my PSP collection consists of 19 compilations/remakes/re-releases out of a total of 37 (51%), something needs to be done!  Start making more original games for the system damn it!

6. Guitar Hero sucking all of what was fun out of the "plastic instrument" sub-genre
  • I love the rhythm/music genre, but Activision is making damn sure we get completely sick of seeing stores filled with fake, plastic instruments.  Enough is enough already!  We don't need another fucking music game/instrument bundle!

7. Sony's tepid promotion of their big games
  • What's wrong Sony?  Afraid your games will sell too well?  Killzone 2 will be amazing based on my impressions from the multiplayer beta for 10-15 hours and yet, no real promotional push that the game deserves!

8. Waggle doesn't make the gaming world work
  • Nintendo, if it wasn't for your insistance to shove an imprecise, gimmicky control scheme down everyone's throats, I might have bought a Wii by now.  Sure, it works well with some games, but most don't benefit from it.  Yes, I can get a normal controller and use it for a lot of games, but that option costs extra!  No matter how hard you try, waggle will not become a standard because it simply isn't precise enough for most games.

DeadlyPain:  In my "Anti-PS3 morons" point, I was referring to irrational fanboys who are against the system for no reason other than that they can be.  Constructively criticizing the Wii doesn't make me anti-Wii.  I'm simply not convinced motion control is something that should be pushed as the standard for any console.  Reading and comprehension is fundamental.

Oh I don't disagree with that. There is a definite need for the PSP to expand its market heavily, especially in Europe/America; but at this point in time, there really is quite a large backlog of titles to sort through that people never seem to do.

He said "Sure, it works well with some games, but most don't benefit from it. " Which is true unfortunately. And he didn't say anything about graphics, so I think you're getting a bit upset over nothing.

you say Anti-PS3 morons then say that, your no better then the ps3 haters when it comes to Wii - Shame on you!

just because it doesn't have next gen graphics doesn't make its a shit system, the Wii mote is actually really cool and proves that gaming can be more then just sitting with a fecking joypad on your lap using nothing but your phums to play games.........

The same could be said about the Wii.  The real problem is there aren't enough to completely satisfy the owners of the systems.

Of course it's his problem. It's his list. Obviously everyone else will have their own opinions on what they like or dislike.

Well, I agree with a lot of the things you said, but I also disagreed with a lot of the things you said.

1. The problems with the 360 still stand, so I will give you that.
2. Friend codes suck, yes
3. The PS3's price has gotten better. The beginning price was ridiculous, but now, with models $399 and $499, and the possibility of a $299 model down the road, and the support of Blu-Ray movies, a lot of HDD space, reliable hardware, built in wireless adapters and all, the price becomes a bit more reasonable. Expensive? Yes, but gaming has always been on the high side. At least we are getting a lot for it.
4. The people who criticize the PS3 don't know what they are talking about....as of last year. Before late 2007, they were right though. Thankfully, a lot has changed now.
5. I do believe that the PSP should have more support, yes.  There are a few original games that are out that I love, such as Patapon, MGS: PO, FFVII: CC, and the like, but there releases are few and far between. The only problem with the PSP is that the good games (which there a bunch) don't get enough attention for some reason, which leads people like me and you (the TC) wondering where some of these games are. But they are there...somewhere.
6. Guitar Hero has sucked the fun out of the business yes, but when people are buying all of them, there is little to complain about on their end, right?
7. Like I said with the PSP and what you said about Killzone 2, Sony should do more advertising.
8. The Wii isn't that precise as many would like, but the upcoming WiiMotionPlus will hopefully improve upon that. As it stands, games like RE4, Okami, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Super Paper Mario and No More Heroes all work very well, even when RE4 depends heavily on aiming.

I've been hearing a lot of talk about the "360 red eye of death" and its not a good sign for Microsoft when there "super computer gaming console" dies within a few months or years.
Sony also has a lot of bugs to work out with the PS3, and now I hear there in talks of makin a bigger hard drive so u can just burn the games onto ur console and don't have to carry around all those gaming discs.
Well somthing is wrong with this picture folks, I see a world of hurt for the gaming industry.  Always wanting to make things bigger and better.  Well just stop and listen to what the "People" have to say.  Don't sit there and try to impress us with all ur glitz and glamor and just say "heres a console that fits ur needs and wants, with out all the hype.  Stop craming so much shit into one console, making us confused as to what we want.
Stop changeing things so damn fast on us too.  Bring somthing out and wait at least 2 years and then change the product around.  Give us time to adapt."

I didn't mind the bold italics, but this is what it should have been.

Oh, and i agree with the topic's points too.  Though I like to think the developers just haven't gotten the hang of implementing the "waggle" correctly yet.  Right now, there's a difference in what it actually is and how it can be used, and what people want it to be and try to use it as.

I didn't agree with it. I told you that you were wrong, and told you to do more research. That still stands. There are a great many worthwhile titles on the system if you bother digging.

I don't EXACTLY agree with everything...

I do think the PSP has an alright amount of original games... just not as much as the DS...
I don't hate it, I'm actually kind of indifferent on the topic...

also, I think the the Wii has horribly imprecise controls... but Wii motion+ seems to fix most of that... I predict Nintendo's next console will have MUCH more precise control, to the point where mainstream games can actually be fun on it...

Sushbag:  $399 and $499 isn't high?  You must be swiming in benjamins if you think that.  Me a cheap bastard?  Considering I paid $599 for the 60GB model in Feb. 2007, I'd argue against that accusation.  My point was that in order to compete with their significantly cheaper competition, Sony needs to find a way to drop their price and soon.

Gameboi:  Yes, the price is better, but it certainly isn't good enough to compete in a world where most who buy consoles have price as one of their top concerns.  Especially for people having a harder time because of the current economic recession.

@#5.

Do some research. The PSP has multiple original games releasing within the next 6 months. After that, who knows, and yes, it does need a ton more software support, but it has no supreme lack of original titles. I'm pretty tired of people not looking shit up before they say things like that.

I think that most of the gimiky controls on the wii are from the shity third party developers.  But most Nintendo and Capcom Wii games which are a good majority of the good ones do not fall victim to over used motion controls.  I definetly like all 3 of my current gen systems though.
