Best of Giantbomb (Community Blogs)

Browsing around this great website, I stumbled on some notable blogs that I'd like to share with you. They are in no particular order, and all fairly biased opinions, so feel free to comment below and tell me what a huge idiot I am, as long as you provide links to blogs you think are better. G'ahead, I dare ya.

"HS21's Adventures in Being a Private Eye

" Drops of water assaulted my window, there was a storm raging outside and it was wetter than a teenage girl on the opening night of a Twilight movie. Six months, six goddamn months of sitting behind my desk, waiting for a case that never comes. I'd given up on looking forward to a job landing right on my lap, the only thing I did look forward to anymore was a hot cup of chocolate delivered to my office by my secretary. I can never call her that in person though, mother said that that's "Fucking stupid" and proceeded to splash me in the face with the mug of hot chocolate still in her hand. Shit was hot." (

HS21's pros continue to awe and astound me, and to find such a beautifully written paragraph on this (at times) troll-ridden website gives me hope for the future. If you're looking for low-brow, back-water humor, keep moving. But if it's fine wit and satire you desire, indulge your senses with some blogs by HS21.

Sweep's Keeping it Simple

"I don't know how we made it to Friday. I have lost and regained my faith in humanity on an almost daily basis. But let's not talk of such darkness. Let's keep it simple..."

How can I write a "Best of" without Sweep? Since about a month into GB's budding existence, Sweep has been known as THE Blogger. And perhaps his most endearing quality, is that he constantly tries to shine the light away from him and onto other bloggers. So why did I chose these 4 lines from his hundreds (if not thousands) of blogs? Because in a way, it sums up the GB community. Simple people who with one sentence can betray and humiliate you, and then in the next, validate and befriend you. So while Sweep is on Haitus, go read some of his older blogs, and feel the love.

Rowr's 2008 Goaty Awards

Best Platformer Goat of the Year
Best Platformer Goat of the Year
Some of you may remember Rowr from back in the good ol' days, when IRC was thriving, and every "How are YOU?" thread was getting spammed and then closed, or maybe you know him from his playful yet informative blogs. Blogs that have been scarcer and scarcer these days. "Why?" you ask, "Why should such talent be ripped from our community? Why the silence, Rowr?" Well I'll tell you why, he went and got some lousy girlfriend and a 12 hour job and now has no time for such frivolities as make believe podcasts and watermelon-head profile pictures. Maybe some day he'll return and grace the blogosphere with his presence. Until then, we can only dream.

Matt Bodega's Kessler Kam

As the creator of GB's first community Podcast (Bomb Should Have a Face), Matt Bodega has been keeping the community informed about the Giant Bomb going-ons. So it's only appropriate that he should intern for Whiskey media and then leak the happenings to the rest of us peons.

Zombie Pie's Community Spotlight

I can't really take an excerpt from this blog. I mean, I COULD, but it would either confuse or bore you. So let me summarize: This is where you go when you want to know what's up in the community. If Matty B is the undercover agent for revealing what the staff is up to, Zombie Pie is the historian who chronicles all the cool stuff that's happening under your nose.

JJWeatherman's Cloudy with a Chance of Gaming

"Welcome to Bright Falls. / Is that a giant deer float? / Where’s it’s lucha mask?"

You've got that essaydue/mathquiz/powerpoint/work in the morning, and you've told yourself NO VIDEOGAMEZ TIL I FINISH. But you find yourself on giantbomb procrastinating anyway. Where do you go? To JJWeatherman, for some good old fashioned critiques and reviews that don't make you want to punch the writer in the face. Maybe you're not like me and have never had the urge to punch a blogwriter in the face, but chances are the thought has crossed your mind. Have no fear, for JJWeatherman's Cloudy with a Chance of Gaming episodes are intriguing and (genearlly) as non-biased as this community gets.

Marino's PAX Guide to PAX

"Don't Be a Dick".

PAX just ended, but it's never too early to start planning for next year, and what better way to get ready than with the internet! Marino lays it all out for you with his PAX Guide to PAX, and the best thing about it, is that it's timeless. With such advice as "Shower Every Day" and "Don't Be a Dick ", one could potentially use this as a "Guide for Doing Anything in Public", not just PAX.

TMTDNR.
That's my 2 cents. But the photo of the rocket bear was pretty classy.

Video Game Art You Long For?

Ssup GBers, I do art stuff and stuff and I'm going on this 3 day train ride to Sydney and I'm bringing a sketchbook, and I wanted to know if anyone has ever been like "OMFGZ WHY HASN'T ANYONE EVER DRAWN/PAINTED *instert video game character* DOING *action* WITH *video game character/ object*?!?! Because I will do it out of pure talent and unadulterated boredom, just for YOU. Unless your idea sucks.

Some of you who know me well, have seen the watercolor of Big Daddy and Little Sister, so obviously it's not going to be the most complicated thing in the world, but you get to see your ideas come to life, and I get to now be bored for an hour. WE ALL WIN!

So what video game characters/scenes have you wanted to see illustrated?

I WASN'T EVEN THERE!

I'm sure you've all seen this, so I'm not posting it to the forums, but lololol

OK, update on Virago's life: Still in Australia, haven't died from cyclones/floods/fires/locusts, doing the drawing and logo design thing and making money.... I guess you can call it that. Yeah, sure, I make money. Today i made $5 by taking 7 kilos of cans to the recyclers. That's right, Kilos. I don't even know how much that is in real weight, because I've forgotten how to be an American. Although I refuse to put mayo on tacos, because that's just weird. Ummm what else... nothing interesting that's for sure *winky salesman face*

Tip number thr-- oh wait; fail, connect 360.

So i downloaded Connect 360 so that I could use my mac with xbox 360, and it started out being frustrating, then worked perfectly, and now it's back to sucking.

First of all, you download it, install it, turned off all firewalls, allow all shady connections in your network, and look up thirty help pages on why it's not connecting, stop and wait for 15 minutes for the computer and xbox to communicate to each other. Alright, that's fine.
Then, after you've turned off your xbox, or turned off your computer, shit goes awry again, so restart the program.  It should still work properly.
Now all of a sudden, after I've turned off my computer while the xbox was still on, it suddenly doesn't connect because port 1900 and/or 9335 are occupied.  This means that your ritualistic sacrifice was not enough, and you must: step 1) restart your computer while you then do step 2) restart your router and then step 3) go to connect 360 to make sure it's running. This ensures that the port is reserved for C360.

Pain in the ass? Absolutely. Worth it? ...yes, it's all worth it once it works *sigh*
But really I have no one to blame for myself.

Tip: Null3d + Download Helper

Looking for a song?
Step 1: download Mozzilla.
Step 2: type "download helper" in the search bar, and install the plug in.
Step 3: Create an account at http://null3d.com/ and search and play songs
Step 4: While song is playing, notice the red, blue and yellow balls rotating next to your mozzilla search bar. Click on the black arrow next to said balls and select the red arrow box

Step 5: when the file has downloaded add .mp3 to the end of the name. That part is key.

voila.
For the record, I only heard this from someone else and thought it might be helpful. I don't support piracy at all.

Tip: Xbox Wireless Headset Charger

No Caption Provided

So the charger to the wireless headset has gone missing, and when electronics go missing there's usually two things you can do.
1) cry heavily into your pillow or beat up the next punk kid you see
2) buy a replacement
I, however, clever genius that I am, discovered that a Nokia phone charger is a perfect replacement for the headset charger.
The catch is that you have to have a Nokia phone with appropriately sized charger. You can also get those handy-dandy multiple car charger thingies for your phone, which cost about $10. (It's a set of 6 or 7 different sizes that plug into a USB which then plugs into your cigarette lighter).

Apparently you can also buy just the original charger for $5 here but when you live in australia, you have to add a 50% to 200% price increase on everything (nicorette gum and condoms excluded), and then shipping costs on top of that. So digging around in your parent's old electronic drawer/box/storage facility doesn't sound so bad considering.

It's all okay.

Today was a struggle, but somehow knowing that people are worse off than I am, makes me feel a lot better. It's not cold, it's life. No one's perfect, no one's horrible, everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. Shitty bike, shitty finals, shitty losing things... awesome life ahead of me.

Hooray for posting multiple blogs and letting the zeros and ones take care of things.

Dear Pretentious Posters

Please stop ruining our fun. If we want to act like 12 year-olds, asking for girl advice and laughing at the word tits, then go somewhere that your obnoxious vernacular can be appreciated and leave us to our miserable shenanigans.

This is the internet, not Mr. Higgin's School of Snobs.

Is it just me, or Giantbomb has gotten nicer?

When I joined at launch, there were a lot of shitheads from gamespot, and then things calmed down after a few months, so that part of history is excused.
But I recall several (if not hundreds) of times when someone when post a blog or a topic and it would just be torn apart. And I mean ripped to shreds, not just "first" or "lol fag". Even the "Hi I'm new" blogs would get riddled (no pun intended) with insults and internet shenanigans, and any time someone slipped that they were a girl, it was "togtfo" or "make me a sandwhich".

In a twisted way I sort of miss seeing user bashing. Which I feel horrible admitting, but that's 70% why I love the internet; the anonymity while insulting and raging at the expense of the weak and vulnerable. I'm pretty sure that makes me a bad person, so I apologize to anyone (and everyone) I've made cry.  (Which really shouldn't be anyone, because I'm pretty goddamn nice). Anyway: Have the trolls gotten bored? Is it thanks to the mods cleaning out the trash? Or has the user population matured in age the last two years? I don't know. But if you see me being a jerk, it's only out of nostalgia.
