I was hoping you'd pull something like this together. :D Great job, duder. (and great job on the second Blue Jam compilation as well... that was a good selection of sketches)

Thanks! That Jerry Springer bit is something else.

This Year has produced a memorial best-of for Ryan. It's just over two hours long and contains some of Ryan's best moments on The HotSpot and the Giant Bombcast. You can download the MP3 here (Direct link/RSS/iTunes also).

I am glad to present to you today an assembly of some of his most memorable moments selected by his fans and by listeners to our program. What we’ve got for you here is pretty simple: it’s two hours worth of Ryan at his best. Along with the more memorable moments you guys picked out I dug into my vault and selected some deep cuts that tend to go overlooked. You’ll hear stuff from 2006 all the way up to 2013. I’ve done my best to make it as streamlined as possible—I didn’t want this to just be another six-hour Bombcast best-of; this is a celebration of Ryan and all that he gave to us.

Right now it’s relatively bare-bones—just clips played in the way I’ve ordered them—and I say that because I’m working on a second version of this memorial show that will include songs off Ryan’s Summer Jams playlist. I want to produce something that we’ll be able to keep on our MP3 players; something to put on while driving, something to put on when it’s summer time. If you’ve listened to our best-ofs for the program Blue Jam, that should give you an idea of what I’m going for: basically just songs sandwiched between each clip. It’s something that’ll take a while though, because it takes thought and engineering and most crucially time, so while I work on it a little bit each day, here’s a plainer version of that, again, just two hours of clips. Also for old-times sake I’ve included some songs by the Suburban All-Stars. I hope that you enjoy it and I hope that it serves as a good reflection of how important and beloved Ryan was. He will certainly be missed, but he leaves behind a tremendous legacy that ensures he will never be forgotten.

Playlist

Introduction / Some of the Real / Uh Uh Uh Uh Uh / Charge Super Shot Healthy Energy / Did You Play Skyward Sword? / You’re Part of the Problem / If I’m Not Playing The Division I’m Not Living / Cake

Stop (The All-Stars) / This Fucking Narc / Ryan vs. Brad 1 / I Love Mongolian Barbeque / Did You Pre-Order? / Best Buy / Gay Sexual Content / Cake vs. Pie / What the Fuck Are You Saying? / The Debate of the Century / Saxophones Are Shit / Muh Balls / The Move / Yeast / Designated Hitter / Never / It’s Right Here / Ryan vs. Brad 2

Girlfriend / Breast Milk / Up on the Hill / Ketchup / The Pearls Caught in Mid-Air / When Men Shriek / Whack It Off / Silky the Fairy & Saucepan Man / David Cage’s Don’t Shit Your Pants / Enjoy Your Massage / Cannot Control the Clown / Shhhhhhhhhh

In the Can In the Can / Ryan vs. Brad 3 / Robots Don’t Have Feelings / Swowrds / You Are All Assholes / David Meatballs / I Bet She Does / Gaming for Me Is a Religion / …Baby One More Time / Fading Out Now

This Year is continuing with its best-ofs of 1UP podcasts as we cover (for the first time) Retronauts. Retronauts was, of course, 1UP's great retro games podcast. It was one of the first podcasts I ever listened to, and maybe it's just podcast nostalgia (though I doubt it), but I'm convinced that it's one of the best gaming podcasts ever created. And it has been, of course, recently rebooted; I believe the new show kicks off next month. This is a best-of compilation only for the 2007 year of the show. We've done these compilation shows in the past for other 1UP programs, namely 1UP Yours and GFW Radio.

Within we hear discussed such topics as the history of survival horror, 8-bit Mario games, the Atari 2600, and the Commodore 64, among a number of other things. The best-of includes such luminaries as Jeremy Parish, Chris Kohler, Scott Sharkey, Shane Bettenhausen, and Jenn Frank. Here's a blurb I wrote:

Retronauts was part of the 1UP Network's expansion into podcasting in 2006, appearing alongside popular shows like GFW Radio and 1UP Yours. As dreary as host Jeremy Parish liked to suggest it might be—he termed it 1UP's only podcast "for old people"—the podcast was anything but. Though it might not have been as bombastic as its sister programs, Retronauts was in fact just as entertaining, thought-provoking and, more often than not, funny. A well researched, informative journey through video game history, Retronauts was a podcast of inestimable value: not only a rare thing—a history podcast that never bored—but an important aural vade mecum of the games so many people love today.

My favorite topic in the whole show is the survival horror one. It's a must-listen. You can download the best-of here (410 mins/188MB) and there's more information at our site. There you'll find a link to our iTunes show page, RSS feed, Twitter, et cetera. Thanks for your continued support! We receive a ton of feedback here which is great and is really appreciated. Please enjoy the program.

@zanzibarbreeze: There is actually already one. Amplified Gamers. I know some of the duders who do it. They've been at it for quite a while. http://www.amplifiedgamers.com/

I've not listened to this show, but just from looking at the website it seems like it's a regular four-guys-talking-about-games podcast, maybe with some music playing here or there.

I'm talking more like a half-hour weekly show, all music, carefully curated, maybe with a DJ providing some information about the tracks.

I was just listening to an old Retronauts episode on video game music, and then I remembered that Ray Barnholt used to do a video game music podcast (now defunct), and then I did some quick searching and saw that most (if not all) video game music podcasts are now defunct, and now I'm figuring that a video game music podcast would be pretty easy to put together. I'm just wondering if there's any demand for it. Would you listen to a video game music podcast?

The d-pad looks a bit funky, and I don't like the ridges on the analog sticks. But aside from that it looks fine -- though the ironic comparisons to a Madcatz controller aren't too far off. I don't know... something about it just doesn't look right. But hey, guess what: it's a controller. I don't care what it looks like. I don't even care what the system looks like. I put it in a cabinet and that's it, so it's not a big deal.

I'm much more interested in hearing what the touch panel is for.
