I'm 20 hours in and Mass Effect 2 is by far the best story driven game I've played. I'd even rate it over Half Life 2. Hardly any bugs (besides Unreal Engine 3 crap like getting stuck in environment and dual core problems), runs at a perfect 60 fps vsync in most areas, amazing dialogue and quests, and fun, greatly improved combat.

ME2 is better than any game that came out last year.
 
In fact, I'd go as bold as to say it's probably one of the best games I've ever played.

I played Mass Effect (1) a couple of OS installations/formats ago, so I lost the save game. Some reviews said if you start blank you can choose what your past was in dialog options. Well, you cant. I didn't let Wrex die die ME1, he was one of my favorite characters, but in ME2 there was no choice to make that so - I had killed him for the greater good according to everyone. :'(

I just got finished playing this game. I'll have to give the experience some time to sink in, but I think I can confidently say that Mass Effect 2 is one of the, if not the best, story-driven singleplayer games I've ever played. It succeeds in so many ways. The game's only flaws are minor or technical (a few performance hiccups and bugs here or there that have to do with the Unreal Engine 3, moreso on the PC version).
 
Oops, just realized I had commented early. Oh well, this game deserves double praise. FYI, I finished the game at 29 hours 59 minutes. That puts the length of this game at about 25% longer than that of the first game, at my play speed.

Why do people keep bitching about the Mako and the inventory in ME1? It was there, but it didn't make the game UNBEARABLE. Was the inventory management really THAT confusing, then maybe people who think that should stick to GOW instead of trying to pull this franchise into the already generic TPS cesspool.
