The only one I got into was MTV Music Generator. Even then it was only a passing fancy. This just looks odd.

Lovin' the choppy as hell animation.

Jeff showing that he knows how to make music. That was interesting to watch. The game however seems like it's for no one.

The step sequencer on Korg DS-10 has gotta be MUCH easier given the touch screen to work with.  Clicking around with the D-pad looked annoying as hell.

all in all, this is pretty bad ass. i think jeff is right by saying that it's probably not for people who already have there own software on a pc or mac that can do all this stuff plus more.. but at the same time, i have a psp and i love hiphop music and i travel alot, and i'm sure i'm not the only one that fits this description, so for people like us this is bad ass. 
 
and i'd have to imagine that there are a LOT of kids out there that love rap music that can't afford a full retail version of logic or dig. performer or pro tools, that shit is expensive. so for something like this to give those people a shot at making music with decent tools for basically $40.. that is pretty cool.

I played around with the MTV Music generator and made some pretty terrible music. It was fun for awhile, but I couldn't see this holding my interest for very long.

Well, looks maybe a bit more accessible than traxxpad (which I regrettably purchased) but this interface really just doesn't seem to be ideal for this kind of thing. Should probably invest that towards a real music program for the PC.

This will be good for someone who wants to learn how to use a sequencer and stuff without dropping 100 or 200 dollars on fruity loops.  In that case, i just might buy  it, i already have Acid, but this would be a neat little thing to have to pass time while waiting for class to start.

I think it's cool if it gets people into sequencing and music making.  If people really like doing it they can upgrade to more serious PC/Mac software.

The so-called "fruity edition" is actually not that expensive, 90€ over here.
 
As for Beaterator, it's not too shabby. You move around blocks and it makes sounds. What else do you need? It's about fun, after all. On that note (zing!), remember DanceEjay?

i'd make the Bombcast song and tell everybody i came up with it and get high fives all over the globe.

This looks like a fun little semi-pro music toy, which is cool to see.  The interface needs to be streamlined more before the mass market will get into this type of software, and for the professional there's not enough here vs the normal computer software route.  Still, it's a step forward in music production technology to some extent.

I don't think people understnad how many teenagers will buy the fuck outta this game. Rockstar always know what the 13-15 year olds want.

At PAX I was standing in line for Red Dead Redemption while the booth babe bitch was 'creating' a song. It was fucking horrible, I was considering leaving my place in line to either just leave or beat the shit out of her.

Looks like a solid portable music making tool, albeit limited by the fact that it is a handheld "game". I the fact that it is portable is what makes it so appealing, that and the Rockstar level of polish. I think what Vinny said about having a beat in your head & not being near your computer/studio equipment may be a huge thing for some people.

We have a quicklook for fuckign beaterator, but not DJ hero? What the fuck Giant Bomb Crew.
