Part of the reason (if not all of it) that Ryan's controller use is so loud during QLs isn't  that he hammers on the buttons, but rather because he holds the controller against his chest, rather than on his lap, which brings it within practically point-blank distance of the microphone. I don't think he's that violent a man...
 
Well... Okay, yeah, I do, actually. But I don't think it's noticable from his use of video game controllers...

Also this game's combo system is the stupidest goddamn thing I've ever seen. 
 
You have a timer ticking down, shooting dudes lengthens the timer, shooting dudes in the head or using grenades adds to the multiplier! There! Simple! 
 
This stupid nonsense of regular kills resetting the multiplier and having no timer just encourages the kind of boring, tedious, unexciting gameplay that Jeff has experienced. How did this happen? Did no one care? 
 
Well. At least the guns sound good and the intel sounds like a slot machine. Wish other games would do that.

My favorite part is the little Call of Duty style ticker, except instead of saying a gazillion dudes killed it says like five dudes killed.

Tried the demo of this last week and it couldn't have been more boring. The 'arcade' word in the description keeps fooling me to think that this is some downloadable title, which would make it's existance maybe *somewhat* reasonable...

I don't think this looks nearly as bad as Jeff makes it out to be. The combo system seems dumb though, skillshots made Bulletstorm better but it seems to work to this game's detriment. I'll check this out when it's on sale for sure though.

I remember Black more as a proto-Modern Warfare style game than anything like this. The level desing in Black was crazy linear, where you would rarely be able to even climb a staircase after you had walked down a floor, as they had a bad habit of removing the last few steps of it to make sure you'd never accidentally walk in the wrong direction, where this seems to go wrong in the opposite direction - open levels with no directions other than mission markers.

Unfortunate, the devs appeared to have something interesting with a changing color pallete as the game gets darker, and destructible environments, but yeah this game doesn't appear too promising.
 
Though I don't think it's as bad as the QL'ers seem to think.
 
For example, the setting your feet mechanic seems superfluous and definitely clunky, but might be intended to be more integral. Given the repeated deaths, it's clear that while the AI isn't top notch, running and gunning isn't exactly the winning strategy, allowing for distraction in trying to talk while play of course. Perhaps that mechanic and others might have worked better, though again the polish needed to make those conceits come together is definitely lacking.

Whenever Black comes up they seem to talk about it somewhat negatively, but I've got to say I really liked that game. I thought it was a lot of fun. I guess it was wrong of me to expect Bodycount to be a Black 2 for me though. It's a shame that it seems to suck.

Yeah, tried the demo, the gameplay in general doesn't seem worse than other military shooters released in the past few years, but there's barely any indication at all that you're about to die except for the very last moment, and that does get pretty damn annoying. At least they're not repeating the horrible stuff they did in Black where not only the level had to be loaded again after each death (which sadly is pretty damn common these days), but you also had to watch the entire unskippable cutscene every time you died.

There are some great things about Black, and it does some of the worst things modern linear military shooters do and turn that up to 11 - ridiculously linear maps where you constantly are pushed forward by the game as it blocks the path behind you making it impossible to go back the way you came, instead of giving you the chance to occasionally explore the environment.

Then there's the odd omission of some kind of multiplayer, in a game where it certainly wouldn't have felt tacked on (rather it's noticeably missing, as it's not all that long, and was a full price release).

Still, it looks great even 6 years later, it's got a great soundtrack, and pretty varied maps, some well directed cutscenes (which you can't skip, resulting in some really annoying repeats when you have to replay a level) and over all a pretty good atmosphere.

Aww, they quit before they got to the retarded sci-fi sections. I wanted to see their "whaaaaat?!" as they find laser guns and Alice in Wonderland-esque guards in a whole bunch of way-too-shiny corridors.
