Sadly even the 360 controller support isn't fully implemented on PC. You can't move the map around without the mouse. Slightly annoying when playing from bed. Also auto-aim and look invert are universal options and don't apply to the keyboard/mouse or controller setups independently.

At least there is a way to fix the widescreen FOV to hor+ instead of vert-. Before I found the fix the game was giving me major motion sickness in anything other than a 4:3 aspect ratio. Too bad the adjusted FOV makes the sprint effect a little too strong.

At least they got the 'hold' aim and the 'toggle' crouch correct... then again that's how the controller is set up. I think you can alter this behavior inside the ini configuration files located in the My Documents area. I saw a lot of settings to change while looking for a way to flip the right thumbstick y axis separately from the mouse.

Also the game won't use AA no matter what I do. I even tried using the Bioshock profile as suggested elsewhere.

A little let down over all. Then again I paid $15 less than I would have if I had bought it for my 360.

Genius, if you were listening you'd have heard that it was Vinnie (or perhaps Drew?) that started rambling numbers in the background (starting with 265) while Brad said 260, then said 265 after considering that the other person talking might be right. Love hearing PC fundies talk out their ass, so pompous.

The game itself incredibly good, but the PC version has some serious issues around it right now.  If you aren't comfortable with port forwarding do not get the PC version.  Gamespy is really touchy, the official list of ports that needs to be forwarded is wrong,  and the game freezes if you try to search for a game (so you can only really play with friends.)

Their claims that they made this PC first is definitely bullshit though.  The interface definitely feels like a console port (could use improvement) and the lack of mic controls is pretty bad.

Graphics are phenomenal on the PC version.

So doesn't that mean that the real problem is not the matchmaking itself but the lack of dedicated servers?
Given the fact that console players pay a premium for their games, developers and publishers should really get on it and implement dedicated servers as a standard, no?

That said, I do have to agree that matchmaking outside of the US is just total bullshit.

@Warskull: Yea man, I completely agree. I played with 3 friends last night and it was a blast. It took no less than 40 minutes for us to get a game going though, and we're all pretty PC savvy. I *really* hope there is a patch to get this up to speed as far as the menus and starting multiplayer games.  It felt like they sent PC gaming multiplayer back to 1997.

The console versions frame rate kind of sucks, it's too bad the PC uses GameSpy.
Also, the guy with the bird is way more fun than the soldier.  Suck it down.

Thanks for doing this, guys.  This is easily your most objective and informative look at the differences between the PC and console version of a game thus far.  I really appreciate it - more stuff like this in the future would be great.

That really bugs me to find that Borderlands has such lazy ported interface issues, but it seems tolerable.

@Curufinwe: Agree totally. I play in the UK and matchmaking and latency is crap in the majority of instances for even the most high profile games. If matchmaking even worked like it should and the lag wasn't noticible then maybe people wouldn't be so upset with replacing a proven, working system with something completely unreliable.

Having said that, Gamespy = bluuuuuuuurgh.

@RVonE: They don't pay a premium for MW 2, at least in the US its the same price.

It's funny that some people think Activision dumping dedicated servers for the PC version must be the way of the future, when there are developers like DICE who are using them for both console and PC games.

Man, if only online videos were higher than 720 res and less compressed, then you'd really get to see the sexy graphics. :D

Anyways, looks good, aside from the slight jerkiness in the movement. I'm going to assume that's an enable mouse smoothing or get better mouse issue.

Mouse smoothing is enabled in the ini's by default. But auto-aim is on by default also. I think the jerkiness could have been Jeff getting used to the unexpected snap-to caused by it. I'm disappointed that the game keeps it enabled when the mouse is in use.

The game feels better to me without the smoothing and a low in-game sensitivity, with 1600 dpi mouse at 1:1.

Here in EU my favorite online retailer has the 360 version of MW2 for roughly 58 euro while the PC version is 45 euro. This translates (xe.com) to roughly 85 USD versus 66 USD. With a price difference of 19 US dollars I'd say console players in the EU are definitely paying a premium (and then I'm not even bitching about the high euro zone prices).

Anyway, your right on the mark with DICE.

I haven't even played Borderlands, but I remember hearing in the other quick look that you tap the button to just pick up the gun and hold it to switch it for your current gun. Maybe it was the other way around. One of those.

Complaining because instead of clicking and dragging weapons, you have to click and click. The only functional difference between the two is that you have to *hold* the left mouse button with one of them. I'm all for the nit pick, but that's not a good one.

Its a bunch of things in the menus.  For example, they require you to hit enter to confirm a lot of choices in the shop.  So you either have to take your hand off WASD or take your hand off the mouse to shop quickly (particularly when buying ammo.)  Another great example is resolution, you can't just select one from a drop down list, you have to scroll through all of them to find your resolution.  You can't use the mousewheel to scroll up and down lists either.  It just feels like a poorly ported console UI.

The driving controls are really bad too.  It drives where the mouse points with W and A being forward and back.  It would feel much, much better if A and D turned and the mouse simply aimed your turret.

The game itself is very good, but with the gamespy issues, the menu issues, the lack of VOIP options (no push to talk and the ability to disable it is hidden), and the goofy driving controls, the claim that "the PC version is the best version" was a total lie.  The PC version has the best graphics, but they really didn't put a ton of effort into making the game feel natural on the PC, it feels like a port.  This is to the point where if you have both a PC and a 360, I would suggest the 360 version over the PC version.  Especially since their multiplayer works and PC multiplayer really doesn't.

If you don't have a console, the PC version is still a lot of fun.  You just have to be comfortable tweaking some config files, dealing with some clunky menus, searching for information on how to make the multiplayer work (the info in the readme/manual is incomplete),  and configuring your router/firewall.  If you are ok with all that great, but some people aren't.  Those people deserve a fair warning.

@Branthog: Average game length would be about 6 hours IMO, and that's it. 15-20 for one playthrough is pretty huge in my opinion.
