I've played this for a while and I can say im likin' it, I mean I had some trouble getting into the first one - but the sequel remedied the most I had trouble with. I was also ready for what I was getting into on this one so that made me more prepared to play this, and its required to have some knowledge of what the deal is with the game to really enjoy it - hence you get to restart the story with all your current character progress (lvl, combo cards).
All in all its a really good dead rising, I say dead rising because zombie game would be too generic for a game like this - it is completely unique in its own way.

Either you hate it or you love it.
 @StaticVoidMain:
Well, if you take some time to explore you would eventually find usefull stuff against the mercs, like combinations of various items to make projectile weapons - or perhaps the 50. cal sniper rifle in the gun shop, also you can combine stuff WITH some weapons to make them better. I breezed through this mission using my knowledge of the game and really it requires you to take some time to figure out your gameplan.

edit: Also I found it waaay more fun playing on pc. But thats my personal preference with this specific game.

Never played the first, 'cause I don't have a 360, but I'll give this one a shot.  I'm apparently one of the few people around who isn't in the least sick of zombies.  Hell, I even have fun with Zombie Apocalypse, and I'm sure this is an overall better game.

oh and seriously people stop complaining about the boss fights. they're really easy. you just have to be patient and well equiped (i'm looking at you boxing gloves+bowie knife/baseball bat+nails).

Do they have a weapon like the Mannequin Torso that totally kills everything? In the first Dead Rising, the Mannequin Torso DESTROYED bosses. It took so much health with each hit. It was ridiculous (but useful).

Wait, what? There was nothing that would automatically end the game in the first Dead Rising.

I went and got Jasper first and gave him a merc assault rifle.   Made that fight pretty trivial for me, even without the leadership book. "
These words make me want to play the game again. Damn it was frustrating but there seems to be a whole unexplored world out there inside. I really hate the time pressures though...

The game not forcing you to do all missions makes me interested, i still don't care for the whole "beat the clock" gameplay, i like to have fun in my games.. i might pick it up on craigslist in a week once people beat it and start selling it for 40$

A lot of game mechanics in this look so incredibly outdated. I'm sure it's a blast but things like the constant timer, the fact that your weapons break super-quickly, all the escort missions, slow moving character and so on really makes me not want to buy it. If they fixed things like that and made it more.. streamlined isn't the word for it, but it'll suffice. I'm sure it would've been more interesting to me, personally.

I watched it, it wasn't bad at all.

Jeffs problems so far are true though, but the resetting of things per load screen is a life saver for obvious reasons. at least this time you dont have the 3 dudes in the jeep constantly making your life a misery in the park like last time, the mega buster would clear that up nicely though! :D

The boss fights aren't exactly great though...but for nearly every one, i used my witts with combined weapons (which i had a ton of fun making them on my own) and felt super proud for defeating them, which i guess is a good thing. There were 2 fights i will not spoil that i had to use a guide though...

@Azteck: Dont let the timer scare you, its not everyones cup of tea having a timer, hell the first DR scared me with that...But oh dear me it does not matter, if the game didnt have things constantly ticking away, it would get boring, though that might have something to do with it being so similar to the first game and i am fatigued with it. Sure you could go at it at your own pace...but it would make no sense in the context of the story.

Breaking weapons aint a bad thing in my view, its what makes a lot of the weapons fun to use, like smashing wooden chairs...sure it is annoying with valuable weapons, but there are books to make them last 3 times longer etc.

The suriviors have a brain this time, and your speed increases as you level up. So this is not as bad as it may seem.

The game doesn't end if you fail a story mission.

You can ignore the story and just fuck around if you want.

I was referring to the weapons you create, mostly. I can see how breaking a chair over a zombie is fun, and should indeed stay like that. But if you track down some random-ass thing like the leaf-blower (no idea if it's actually rare or not, but let's use it for example) and the gems. Wouldn't it completely suck to have it  disappear 10 minutes after making it? I would think so. In fact, it's what I thought when I played the demo  of Case: Zero and my bat broke after swinging it around at a few zombies, and then had to rely on the bad weapons lying around.

Watching these long load times (and loading time for menus lol) made me glad that I have the PC version. Also, I'm sure someone will figure out a way to mod the game, on the PC version, so that you can play it without the time limits (kind of like Inifinity Mode, but without the constant health drain).

Yeah as Jeff pointed out in the QL, youCAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT sorry for the caps, but it has to be stressed, so many people get turned away i feel because of the time system has been put across poorly.

I did the story with minimal side missions unless i stumbled on them, and had no fucking issue. Now on a second playthrough i can fuck the story and do all the crazy shit i missed. Hell you need to skip the story to be able to do some of the achievements!

@Azteck: Yes i am aware that is what you meant, thats why i said it can be a bummer, but it never bothered me, ever. It bothers me i can't truck this awesome hand held lawnmower anywhere i want, but that's because it's two handed. i cant be bothered to carry that thing half away across the map.

It's part of the charm, and you dont really need to use these combo weapons all the time, just in dire situations or alternatively, to cause recreational blood baths...if it didnt break i'd get sooo bored mashing away with it

Kinda sucks this game has the exact same problems I hated the original for, if they had actually made a good sequel instead of essentially the same game with some slight tweaks I would have bought it day 1.

2 fights with a guide? if you're talking about the overtime fight and the one before that (the barehanded one) then yeah. those where fucked up pretty badly. just like the general on the tank in the first dead rising ;d you just have to find a good method (dropkicking for example :DDD).

There are still just some simple things that would make things less annoying like item storage, a sandbox mode for screwing around, or more usable map / guide arrows.  But really, improved survivor behavior and multiple save slots solves most of the problems without just making an entirely different game.

I would be interested for someone to take the DR engine/concept and make a standard sandbox / open world game though.  Some of the survivor / plot elements would have to be changed a ton, but it could work very well if done right.

The Jeff/Ryan ironic detachment and lack of excitement really bummed me out for this quick look though.

Too little too late.  Maybe if this had come out a few years ago people would still remember the first game and want a sequel, but for a game to be practically identical to the first game that came out 5 years ago, it just seems thrown together.

I'll wait for the bargain bin, which will be fairly soon.

@Deathpooky: The thing is....it kinda alread is a sandbox...you can do whatever you want at what? the expense of guilt i suppose. As it is, killing zombies forever gets boring anyway, it hasnt changed so i guess i've been killing these zombies for a good 4 years now...

If it were to be a proper sandbox game, like we see with GTA, Saints Row or whatever...i guess i'd like to see that.

If you didn't defuse the bombs in the tunnels you got an early stop (being blown to smithereens generally tends to be a deal breaker). But that was it.

Interesting that Ryan (who I don't think made it past the evening of the first day from the comments he's made - got frustrated trying to take some of the early survivors past the convicts [I had about a 75/25 success rate on that, but whatever <which brings up an interesting point -- I think that many people were flummoxed by the fact that, when you first play the game you don't have the tools {or know where to get them} and skill set {either by leveling up or getting used to how the game plays if you want to do a "perfect" run from level 0} to save eveyrone you come across and you must learn to accept failure and leave the survivors to the zombies in order to save your own skin>]) was insistent that there were game stoppers in DR1 when there weren't.

@OldGuy: The convicts were maybe the worst design choice in that game.  Impossible to defeat early on, and yet they were placed there and you thought you had to fight them.  They caused me to drop the game for several months until I restarted at a higher level and learned to just avoid them.

@Death_Burnout:
Eh, I wouldn't call it a sandbox.  Having to go out of your way to avoid doing things and go through convoluted 20 minute set-ups, plot and loading to accomplish what you want to do is not a sandbox.  You can avoid the plot, but its not set up for you to do that and screw around easily - I can't just jump in and explore / kill zombies easily.
