Quick Look: Destiny: House of Wolves

Just 1 year and 4 or so months until Destiny 2. I can't wait. Until then... Destiny still continues to collect dust on my shelf.

Awesome another Quick Look of the most disappointing game of 2014.

HoW is a milestone in the continuing improvement of this game. Destiny was disappointing when it first launched but Bungie have been constantly taking the community's feedback and improving on the game.

When I was able to stop playing The Witcher for a bit I loaded up HoW, it's been about a month since I stopped playing Destiny weekly and my god did they improve some shit. Got 2 of my dudesto 33 and my last is still a 32 but I'll work on him this weekend.

Destiny is so damn good, but The Witcher is so hard to put down T_T

I really enjoyed Destiny but I had no respect for it. Finally quit before the first expansion after dumping a retarded number of hours into the game. While Im sure I could buy the expansions get back into them, and even have a lot of fun, this series just turns me off after the BS they pulled. Maybe if Destiny 2 ends up with an actual story, and content they can win my back, but I really dont want to give them any more of my money until then.

I like Destiny and this expansion seems pretty cool, but it's come out at a really bad time. Just started on Witcher III and still deep in Mortal Kombat X and Bloodborne, with Splatoon due next week too... I'm not likely to get around to it any time too soon. I guess this expansion will be the thing for a few months though, so I can jump in a little down the line if there's a lull in releases I want to play.

Though what I've played of this DLC so far is alright.

I threw in destiny the other day only to see that now even the daily challenges are locked behind overpriced dlc. smh, turned it off after 5 minutes.

Listening to people play destiny is depressing. No one ever sounds like they are having fun.

I swear to god I remember seeing that "outlook" (2m20s in the video) in a preview of Bungie's, except it was more of a bridge that players were crossing.

I am picking up more and more vibes of a game picked apart from what was shown at the outset...

I'm glad I never have to play this perpetual carrot-dangling game.

Anyone know what song was playing during the stream of this right when Brad was dancing on the top of the container? I really liked it, but Shazam and Sound Hound didn't recognize it.

It's like... yeah, this looks better than what Destiny was when I was playing it, but at the end of the day it's very much still what it was, and I'm still not down.

The story elements are overlayed a bit better in this DLC, and the levels are laied out much tighter giving you more to shoot at, I even like the wave based co-op they added, but I still cant help but feel had.. it took them 2 dlcs to make it somewhat enjoyable, and it still feels like its playing catchup with halo

Drew, I just want you to know that I greatly appreciate you quoting the Juggernaut Bitch video an hour in.

1. I am happy to see Jeff finally opting out of this so we don't have to listen to his Destiny rant for the bajillionth time.

2. Glad to see people still have time to spew negativity about a game TEN MONTHS after it came out.

3. Destiny was great fun. If you don't like it, I am not sure why you're watching this, or even commenting on this video. Go spend time playing a game you like instead of watching internet videos about stuff you hate.

4. Seriously. Think about how stupid that is.

As a Destiny raid vet I have to say that the new content is universally better than what we've seen in the past. Granted it's only a fraction of the content at this stage it could make a positive argument for the future of the franchise.

Also you CAN in fact turn on and off the light at the postmaster but you have to stand just outside the canvas covering to do it. The prompt will show up on the screen.

my first thought when I saw the thumbnail was, "My god, did they announce a new Mass Effect game?!?!" Then I saw the Dreg and was both disappointed and excited all at once.

I know right? It's like the tone of regret you get when people talk about the hundreds of hours they've put into other MMOs, but without any of the amazing "this one time" stories to balance it.

Even though I have the expansion pass I had to sell the game. Didn't like the core game. Didn't like the first dlc. From the looks of this it's more of that.

Jeff is at judges week for E3... He was not even in the podcast, let alone a Destiny video. He would have been here if he was in the office.

So this expansion has 5 missions. One of, if not the, best mission they finished within 15 minutes of the video, with the first half featuring them dancing around, loading, and riding on the not Ghosts to skip over a bunch of stuff?

And once they got there, it was shoot guys in the face and then a first person platforming section with disappearing platforms?

This game man...

1. A rant that the majority of the gaming audience agrees with and enjoys hearing because he speaks the truth as far as most people are concerned.

2. So dlc / time means something isn't allowed to be critiqued anymore? what? Games aren't your children dood, don't defend them like they are.

3. Most people come to Giant Bomb primarily to listen to the guys talk over videos and enjoy and take part in the discussion of games and content related to them in general regardless of their personal feelings towards whatever game is being showcased and discussed.

4. You honestly should think about your attitude towards all this. I assume you're relatively young and inexperienced in these matters though so I'm not judging you harshly over it.

Watching just the gameplay still get me excited and makes me want to jump back into the game, but then they start to interact with the "content" and I'm just instantly reminded why I stopped playing.

I get all the criticism, but jesus christ it's just a game I keep coming back to

Destiny controls really well, looks and sounds really good, and I can play it while watching/listening to other things, or talking with friends.

For these reasons, I enjoy it, despite its repetitive structure, lack of meaningful story, and obvious psychological manipulation.

I play lots of games, but Destiny is one of them.

Everything is okay.

I mean if you count the Awoken as just mutant humans Variks is the first speaking alien in Destiny. and that is INSANE.

@lazyaza: i understand his complaints as it's a horse that's been beaten to death thrice over, and some people just can't live and let live. valid criticism is fine if you don't harp on it; i'm already well aware how a sizable group of people (at least here) feel about destiny. but sometimes it's like they're trying their damndest to convince people who like this game that they don't like it, to which i ask: Why?

everyone i've talked to about it outside this internet sphere seems to unabashedly really enjoy it, and it strikes a cord with them. i'm happy they've got something they enjoy that much; let them have their fun.

@tajasaurus: They pretty much hand you level 32 right off the bat without even having to leve new gear, so you should be good.

@brich: wait, really? How?

The new gear you can buy and get in engrams takes you to 32 if you have four pieces. Just one is enough to get you into the high twenties.

Ahh nothing like being reminded of how much of a bummer this game was and still is. I still have high hopes for Destiny 2 because they sure as shit must have learned about what went wrong here

It continues to baffle me why Bungie refuses to budge on adding the option for matchmaking to their high end activities. Fuck Destiny.

Amazing how mediocre this shit is (nearly 2014's most dissappointing, and the game that truly should have won that) and people are talking about like its WoW in its hayday. Truly a sign of where the games industry is.

I am one of the few that still enjoys playing Destiny. I can understand the resentment at what Bungie sold and what was delivered. It kinda sounds like a Peter Molyneux project. Maybe the next version will be the one that Bungie wanted to make in the first place.

While it looks like Brad had a pretty engaging run in the QL, I don't think there's enough here to reel me back into the fold. My time's already at a premium, and there's so many things vying for it (and not just from other games). At least it sounds like they're slowly adjusting the game more to the fans still hanging in there.

@ripelivejam: I agree and feel your pain. Personally I had a moment where I thought Destiny was wasting my time and this was after about two months of solid daily play with a dedicated group, raiding weekly on hard etc. I won't go into details because who cares, but the point is that despite my disdain for the game and Bungie overall I say if others enjoy it then all the power to you. I can completely see why other people would want to keep playing. The online mob mentality can be exhausting when the game you enjoy is on the receiving end of it.

I mean I liked Watchdogs and didn't think it was an especially awful game. I fully admit it's not revolutionary or anything but people make it seem like it's this barely working, steaming pile of shit. So each time I see someone mention how "oh mannnnn Watchdogs worst game of this generation" I likewise get a nervous twitch in my eye.

This would officially be the winner if the old "Brad Quick Look Start to Death Time" list were still going. (Though it's possible that something else since early 2012 has been faster)

As for Destiny... still not for me. Glad other people are still digging it, though. It's good when people enjoy things.
