Here are answers from some of your questions. Aur is Aurum. Aside from being purchased in the cash shop, you can create aurum from breaking plex which are in-game items which give a month's playing time in eve. In EVE you can turn isk into aurum by purchasing plex from the marketplace for isk and then converting them to aurum. If they allow trading between Dust and EVE players then you'll be able to do the same. Aur is the currency used to buy those hundred dollar monocles if you remember the fuss over those.

I believe you're in the local channel for your headquarter system, no matter where you travel to. So you can be in Old Man Star in dust and I could be in the same system in EvE but we wouldn't see each other in local if it's not your hq system.

BF3 does 12 vs 12.

One question I have is were you using a gamepad or mouse and keyboard, and do you know if they add anything to slow mice down and create a level playing field?

This kind of makes me want future Halo games to have a first-person view option when driving vehicles.

It's been weeks since I played, is it any better? The shooting and general gameplay just seemed 'off' and I couldn't find any enjoyment out of it because of that.

With console field of view settings? No you fucking don't. Trust me. I used to think that too.

On PC though? Bring it on. First person or bust! That's why I'm psyched for the more detailed vehicle interiors for ArmA 3. It's awesome.

Is this at all interesting if you're not playing EVE? I love the universe and all, but I'm not terribly interested in a generic and bland FPS right now, even if it is space-y.

Had a chance to play this at the Eurogamer Expo last year in London. Had a great chat with the CCP guys too. The game wasn't particularly exciting, hopefully they've changed a few things and tightened the controls somewhat.

It feels better than it did, but I wouldn't call it drasticly different by any means. It still doesn't feel what I could call ideal, but I like it.

Yeah, someone brought that up during a Q&A panel at fanfest and a dev pretty much said without actually sayingi, "yeah, it's kinda really shitty. We don't like it either." haha

Oh man, the video still sure does show that this is a UE3 game with the texture pop-in. Bummer.

As an EVE player I really want to play this but also since I skipped the PS3 this generation I really don't want to get one so late in the cycle.

Played it a few times during the lengthy beta and found it just to complex to get into. Tried to play it after the "launch" and the first game I got into a game the countdown to the match was five minutes. Immediately went nope and quit out of the game. That is too damn long, unnecessarily so. I don't care what kind of complicated systems you want to craft for in game but if a match doesn't start within 60 seconds of hitting find match then you've lost me.

The game still needs a lot of time and development, but fundamentally it works and is quite playable - as long as you're okay with the only non-bad weapon choices being Assault Rifles and the Scrambler Rifles.

Playing with a joypad has improved immensely for this version called Uprising, however the difficulty in entering and levelling up, catching up, becoming competitive is frankly, fucking nuts. If you haven't been in from the start / if you can't play constantly - you need to be an intelligent skilled player. Passive SP gains help, I had like four million when this version came out and I still feel like the system is busted and broke this way and should be more like BF3.

e: The absolutely great news though are that they're taking serious time and consideration on this, often responding too quickly and easily to player demand so think twice before taking on a nice looking enemy tank.

Sounds just like full fat Eve Online. Even if you have X Million skill points you can't "use" them all at once. Your cool tank upgrades don't affect you if you are on foot for example. To start with you have to specialize if you want to max out skills.

It's still super weird for me to see Patrick playing first person shooters, especially multiplayer ones. Also this really does just look like a console version of Planetside 2, most of the ingame UI seems to be ripped straight out of the game then slightly tweaked.

Two reasons:

1. The idea came to create EVE on consoles to expand user base. The game existed before they decided it would be a shooter. This game exists to have EVE on consoles. If you want to play it on PC, you'll just have to play EVE.

2. Since the game exists, they won't port it over to PC because Planetside 2 is also an MMOFPS and Sony will understandably not allow to compete with themselves. That makes no business sense.

Agreed. I would play this if it was on Steam. Only keeping it on PS3 is a huge distribution problem. Also people saying "If you want to play this on PC, Play EVE" are funny. It's not even the same kind of game. I also still feel it looks super awkward seeing people play shooters on consoles.

Why have it running on the same server and then not allow that? Seems super weird to me. So the ISK Patrick has on his Dust character, they don't actually translate, or transfer to his EVE-progress?

What's the Dust-ISK to bitcoin ratio and can I trade Dust-ISK to bitcoins and then bitcoins to EVE-ISK?

OK, a comment mostly for other Dust players - Kite Co Space Truckers is the EVE Online corp, Kite Co Couriers is the one for Dust 514 players. Patrick applied to the EVE corp in the video, currently it seems the integration between the two games isn't quite complete, most EVE corps (including Kite Co) use some features that aren't available for Dust players, and Dust players can't be taxed, probably because CCP haven't figured out the ISK conversion rates between the two games yet, so until then Dust players don't get accepted into the Space Trucking corp as far as I know.

Joining the Kite Co Couriers went pretty quick and painless though, and the Giant Bomb chat channel "Giantbombing" is available across both platforms, regardless of your corp affiliation.

As for a PC version, I hope they're planning something in that regard, but Dust 514 as it currently stand is pretty much designed within the limitations of the PS3's hardware, I'd probably prefer it if they just made another "EVE Universe" product, as they hinted at in one of the dump trucks - a larger scale PC FPS more at the scale of Planetside or at least Battlefield.

If you buy one of the recent PS3 Slims, I think you're supposed to get some Dust 514 bonus items or AURUM or whatever bundled with the console.

An FPS game made to play in parallel with EVE Online sounds a lot more like PlanetSide 2 to me. This doesn't seem incredibly interesting, but the promise of more connectivity with EVE Online keeps me aware of it. EVE does already have the beginnings of direct character control, which is pretty much all the out-of-combat stuff in Dust. You could imagine deploying into Dust directly from EVE in the future and being just one aspect of character interaction. But being PS3 exclusive, at least for now, is a bit trivial.

It does have mouse and keyboard support. However just like sloppy console-to-PC ports you cannot rebind the controls and the mouse suffers from terrible analog stick translation that resembles heavy acceleration, deceleration, and input lag. At least that's how it was a week ago, and I kinda doubt much has changed on that front.

Also the field of view is terribly narrow, so you don't want to play this game sitting two feet away from your monitor hunched over a desk.

@patrickklepek, AUR currency in Dust 514 takes its name from an Icelandic equivalent to US pennies that has been dropped from use. So the ingame currency is ISK (Icelandic Krona) and the bought currency is AUR and both are connected in name to the Icelandic currency.

All I could think of while watching this:

Shift to Vector Cannon mode

All energy lines connected

Landing gear and climbing irons locked

Inner chamber pressure rising normally

Life ring has started revolving

Ready to fire
