Quick Look: Etrian Odyssey III: The Drowned City

Man, Kessler really likes JRPGs apparently.  I'm geussing he was the only one in the office they could get to do the last few QLs.

I do really wish they wouldn't putt staff members on QLs that they absolutely hate though, unless maybe the game is just terrible and is a joke QL.  It kinda takes away from it when one person is just being snarky and bored all the time.   
 
Ryan isn't really a good fit for the slower methodical paced style of JRPGs.  Though they aren't always the most compelling thing to watch either necessarily, as much as I like playing them.

Last 2 quicklooks have been good. These haters can go fuck themselves. I could understand the first one because it did kind of grate but the latest two have been incredibly informative and well done. I find myself actually cheering for the underdog on this one.

I'm back on board with Kessler, his enthusiasm mixed with Ryan's disdain works really well.

You guys realize that Ryan is hazing Kessler, the intern, on his birthday. It's a "joke." Stop being soserious.

Is it bad that I find this Quicklook incredibly funny to watch just because of Ryan being a complete dick? Their personalities somehow play off each other pretty well, so this was a success I'd say!
 
Matt is doing his best, so I'm not going to be too critical of him, but maybe he should have used a save file where he just unlocked the next level, and then he could show off his mapmaking skills then.

I don't think I'd like this game and I like JRPGs.  As for Matt, I think he did just fine.  Ryan was as usual hilarious. 

Why was Ryan so annoying half way in the QL? I read through some of the comments. I don't understand how so many people can interpret this as a great interaction between the two quicklookers. I just felt that Ryan was being snarky but it didn't lead to any kind of interaction between the reviewers besides bickering. Maybe it was set  up as a joke (on the no one likes Matt thing) which didn't work/I don't understand but I interpreted it mainly as being disrespectful from Ryans side.

I love Matt Kessle QL's. What would made it better is doing the quicklook with someone that does gives a fuck about the game instead of Ryan crying a whole QL about how boring it is making this lame to watch for people that are geniunely interessted (like me).    Unless it's some kind of humor that I'm not familiar with.

I like how everyone is analyzing and criticizing the intern, like they can do a better job themselves. Well guess what? Matt got the job, and you guys didn't. Quit being jealous. Most of you wouldn't even last two seconds on QL's.

I'm still working on EO 2, but the sailing mechanic looks interesting.  At my current rate of progress, I should be done EO 2 roughly around the time EO 15 hits our neural download lobbies.

When he was walking through the world i felt sick. JRPG in first person? WTF?

This, oddly, is giving me flashbacks to Bane of the Cosmic Forge. Same first person perspective, same "create your whole party", same mapping .. except i had a notebook full of graph paper to map the dungeon out myself, because there was no in game map and I think there were 10 textures or so total. Bad, bad times.

Considering the first persona has you running around in this first person view (and strange journey) i'm fine with it, but it dosen't look like the game for me, at least right now, when ti comes down low in price i'll pick it up ^^

I love Ryan in this QL.

I played EO1 and 2, and even did some post-game stuff in each.  I liked them, but man, they suck for a QL.  When you get to a new level, you usually can't map more than a room or two before you need to get the F out of there to heal and regroup.
 
But yes, if they are going to do a QL of this, they should probably show off the characters a bit.

We need more Matt Kessler on this site.

This series doesn't have much in common with Xeen-era Might and Magic.

Did they hire a guy just to play JRPGs for them?? You guys have too much money.

They wouldn't have hired him if they didn't like him. They just aren't as comfortable with him as the other GB crew is all, getting to know him still. Matt is a cool guy he's very excited about games and he seems really nice.

My problem with the Matt dude is that he treats every quick look as if he's PR trying to sell me on the game.
