Once they work on the HUD and get the words looking better with some other characters this could be a cool game. The fighting hats idea is strange but could be interesting.

Totally, the reason I like quick look EXs so much is because developers don't feel the need to dumb down what they want to say or have it skewed by some PR scheme. As someone who is terrible at fighting games (but wants to get better) hearing them explain their philosophy was really cool.

Wow. I did not know Mike Z is involved in this project. I am a big fan of his beastly Iron Tager play in BlazBlue: CS.

This art is GREAT. I think most of the criticisms comes from the fact that the UI is all placeholder right now. I think a lot of people must have just missed that part because it most definitely does not look like a flash game. With the proper bars, menus, and effects thrown in this will look amazing.

I was actually thinking that the Filia character seemed like a cross between Shuma Gorath and Nrvnqsr Chaos's moveset

Looks clunky as hell so considering their most important feature is girls doing vaguely erotic poses they should have just made a series of animated gifs of tits bouncing and sell that instead.

The HUD graphics aren't finished.  They said that in the Quick Look.  This is just a very early demo build with two playable characters and a lot of unfinished or missing art assets.

They sound super elitist when it comes to fighting games.
 
If this bleeds into the design as I'm sure it will not matter how "beginner friendly" they call it people will become tired of it before they are full able to grasp all the specialized stuff.

I like the whole aproach to new players and simple imputs for complex moves , I feel that is something missing in some of the new 2D fighters , the style is cool so im going to be watching this game closely

The only real issue I have with the art style is that it isn't very original. The only thing "fugly" about the design is their choice of font, which I'm hoping will change in the final build.

looks so great! I'll be keeping an eye on this.
 
The 6 button setup seems strange when they're shooting for XBLA/PSN that both use 4 button pads as standard. 
 
At least SSFIV and the like have the excuse of starting in arcades but I think if you're building for consoles from the start build with console inputs in mind.

I am not one to defend this game, as I'm not into fighting games and am really put off by character design, but they did say specifically that none of the UI elements were near final. What's there so far is clearly placeholder because they need something to navigate with. This build is obviously not a polished release candidate.

Very interested in this game. I remember stumbling upon it years ago, and thinking how great the art direction was. Last time I checked their website, most of the information that had been previously accessible was removed; such as concept art for the entire roster.
 
I absolutely love the character designs... they have a very Darkstalkers-like thing going on, and I approve. Some might say it looks like it plays similarly to Melty Blood, but I don't feel like that's a bad thing in this case. It allows for more free-form combos while regulating outlandish streaks with the combo breaker system.
 
Also, to the people complaining about the UI, keep in mind they mentioned it's all placeholder. They're basically finished with the engine, and are now working on adding the rest of the roster in. I'm sure once that's all set in place and feature-rich, they'll focus on the art assets for the menus, HUD and combat effects.
 
About the only thing I'm not impressed with are the backgrounds. They could definitely use some pizazz: shifts in lighting, animated parts and spectators.

I sort of like it, I think that first girl was directly inspired by Zato-1 from Guilty Gear, I get a whole guilty gear / blazblue vibe from the game, the thing it annoys me are the school girls or w\e couldn't they make them older? or is that the sequel skull women :P.

I really, really, don't like the Saturday morning cartoon style and design of this game. 
 
Also, the designer doing most of the talking is a bit of an asshole at a couple of points.

These comments are a great example of why game companies are so hesitant to show unfinished games to the public. A lot of people make snap judgments without listening to the facts. Now there are a few hundred people out there who know about your game but ignorantly think this is the finished product and think it sucks as a result.
