As a huge fan of 1 and 2, I've had my doubts about this game: it's not developed by Monolith, using cutscenes to move the story along, developed by the guys that made Fracture, the weird character models, implementing co-op, and based on this QL, using a rank-up system.

They really should have put out a demo. A lot of my questions would have been answered and my doubts put to rest. I had to look up a youtube walkthrough to see for myself if all the little nuances from the previous games are there. Surely enough, they are.

The flickering lightbulb in the grimy corridor, the sound of electricity crackling, echoing thumps in vents, random low growls in dark corners, the pointman's footsteps breaking the dead silence, enemies attempting to outflank you, the ominous soundtrack that ramps up during firefights, objects clattering around when you unknowingly bump into them, slide-kicking, Alma's random appearances - it's all there. Hell, the mission goal in the QL instructs you to meet up with Jin Sun-Kwon.

I'll be awaiting GB's review, but I'm willing to give it try regardless.

I have a legitimate and probably irrational love for F.E.A.R. 2. Something about that game just clicked with me. But I am not interested in playing this game at all.

FTHREEAR looks better than I expected. I was worried when they had Call o' Duty style favelas, but the rest looks pretty decent. Paxton looks especially fun to play as.

Yep, that's what I thought watching this. Non-stop-shooting at generic and dumb guys and no suspense at all.

Also, the firefights themselves looked much more intense in Fear1 - the shockwaves from grenades, sparks flying everywhere, lightsources getting hit and moving, all that in slow motiom looked especially thrilling. It's completely missing here. Even the dudes you fight don't behave as cleverly as in the first game.

I hate the way the game's splitscreen looks. Fill the whole goddamn screen! Filling parts of the screen with black in order to keep the aspect ratio is crap. It was crap in RE5, it is also crap here. Developers, look how Portal 2 does it!

Yeah, it was like he was playing sloppy and keeping the pace going so that the viewers
 at home wouldn't be bored by methodical fps combat, huh? Almost like he was playing a game on a quicklook or something......

Wow, jesus christ, this is HORRIBLE. Like, maybe it gets better later on but this looks like "Let's take everything that was unique and interesting about FEAR and stomp it to the ground with Call of Duty." Seriously, Co-Op and Perks? They realise this game is about atmosphere, right?

I was going to buy this game but seems they got rid of the creepy atmosphere. Love F.E.A.R and F.E.A.R 2 but this doesn't look unique, I play F.E.A.R for the thrills and chills, this seems to have neither.
 
The only redeeming factor is the co-op and the online mode, however I haven't bought Portal 2 yet so this will be a bargain bin buy.

Too bad about the game's lack of explaining any reason on the psychic links & any levels gained. The mini challenges (keeping track of kills with certain weapons or abilities) worked great in Borderlands where the level progression, here it does seem messed up on the design. They could have easily just put in some bit of text of the last thoughts or spots on the map to go with the psychic link to fill in some info with that part of the game. Will have to play it to find out more or if it's finally explained later.
 
Quite hard to RTFM when there is no M.

Yeah, the explosions look weak and there aren't any sparks flying around from the bullets. I'm not saying I need pretty effects to enjoy something, but bombastic firefights are a trademark in FEAR and previous games have done it incredibly well. So to see this game not meet that same standard for the series is disappointing.

I pretty much agree with Vinny. Playing the campaign by yourself looks like a bore, but co-op looks really fun. I'll probably get it when it gets cheaper, but I'm not buying it at the full 60 bucks just for the co-op.

"Paxton Fettel and The Point Man" is a good name for a band name, a buddy cop movie/show, comedy skit, a book taking place over a single luncheon, a hip new lawyer joint and/or publisher... basically anything.

It usually also has to do with rendering less pixels so that it can maintain a decent frame rate.

Didn't really impress me much. Despite really liking F.E.A.R. and F.E.A.R. 2. I might try it out, haven't bought a game in a while. Why can't Monolith make the F.E.A.R. franchise and deliver more amazing Condemned games. Oh and if F.E.A.R. 4 is F.E.4.R I'm done with this series. Why do publishers think we want number put where letter are meant to be. Reeks of marketing people not understanding their consumers.

I came in here for a FEAR 3 quicklook and didn't see any FEAR. What happened??

Also Ryan did fucking horrible. For the 35 minutes of watching that video he didn't use slo motion once and must have gotten lost 3-5 times. You cannot make this game more linear then it already is, and yet he is getting lost.

Ryan couldn't have shown a more worse level in this quick look. The second level is just like MW2, the few levels after that I've played feels like F.E.A.R. It gets creepy and atmospheric. 
*I'm only on the 4th level so this may not be true for the entire game

Ryan? Press the Y Button. You might find something cool happening. Also, all of the sudden you might no longer play the game on easy. Just saying. Also, if you're playing Fear and ignoring the shotgun, you're doing it wrong.

I get lost in this haphazard melange of a game as well, yet I did Portal 2 in two sittings without going after FAQs. One might say this droning first person shooter is not making you want to see what happens, so you put your brain in "relax" mode while you just pull the trigger at moving shades and lights while constantly pushing forwards. But hey, suddenly the corridor ends and you didn't care to look around the morose scenery for an exit so one might end up exiting the application instead. At least I don't have to pretend to be informative about a game that doesn't inform you properly about anything, while playing. It might be even harder to pay attention then, I don't know.
