If not retard-proof, they seem to have made it deathproof for Brad.
 
I've never been a big Metroid fan, but I think they made the wrong choice in how they simplified the controls.  The 1st-person Metroid games have always had pretty unwieldy controls because Nintendo doesn't make great controllers for FPS games, so I think it was a good idea to mess with the control scheme a little.  Standing completely still while you wave your controller at the screen to aim, however,  just looks dumb.
 
Also, I love that "Abili-tease" is now completely entrenched in the GB vernacular.

Well, I'm not looking forward too the controls, but I am probably gonna play this game. I also find the relative uniqueness of the game design kind of charming, hopefully that won't go away as I play it.

Just give me more Castlevania and Metroid on my DS and I'll be pleased, but I really wish they'd do more 2d installments on the consoles with high-res sprites. Contract VanillaWare to do the art and have the Super Metroid and Castlevania:SotN teams make the game. I'd be sold day one on both.

Just like Phoenix Down, everyone I knew at the time pronounced it "aren" and the planet "zee-beez".
Also, this game looks like warmed-over ass.  Fuck you Nintendo for shitting all over the great games from that special time one by one until I no longer care to play Zelda, Metroid and Mario games.
 
The fact that this game purposely plays in a broken fashion with inherent design flaws is insane.  It's like they decided to make the opposite choice when it came to every aspect of control that any normal person would have gone with.  Games can have multiple control schemes, you don't need to force people to use one, especially when it's as flawed as this.  Not since Lair has a game so frustrated me with inane control limitations like this, and we all know how well Lair did or what happened to the developer because of it.

This seems...interesting, I guess.  I kind of like it but I think I want to like it more than what I actually will end up liking it.  It doesn't look bad, necessarily, it just also doesn't look like what it should/what people want it to be either.

I seem to be in the minority by thinking that this game looks really sweet. This QL felt definetly very negative compared to Brad's review and Jeff sure didn't help with his attitude. 
 
But w/e, still going to get this one soon. Last Wii game I bought was Okami over six or so months ago...

Looks better than I was fearing. Still it seems like a really weird game with a lot of artificial limitations placed on it. It is almost as if they designed it for another system. Creativity does come out of limitations though so some of the solutions they have created to deal with these limitations seems genuinely neat. The auto-dodging sounds cool and it doesn't seem completely broken since if your doing something other than just running your going to get hit. 
 
It seems like a very japanese game in that way, where you get really weird and unique solutions to common gameplay problems. However these are the types of problems that were solved a decade ago so it comes off kind of crazy. It seems like you will be fighting the controls more than the enemies at times but I am stoked now to play it next week.

Okay, what? Maybe the control scheme is dreadful, but the Wii has an analog stick. If the developers decided not to use it, don't blame the console itself, blame them. You'll have to direct your hate towards the Wii from another perspective. 
 
Also, beams usually stack on Metroid. The Prime series did away with that, but I'm sure that in most 2D Metroids have that.

I've never been into the 3D Metroid games, and though Other M looks to be taking it to a completely different direction, there seems to be quite a few problems with it. I'll pass on this.

I'll just go ahead and say it: This was a boring QL due to Brad not saying much and Jeff not being interested. No jokes, no real review, just a hell of a lot of "So...Ummm....Yeah.." And honestly, it looks alright, but QL's usually are usually a bit better than this. Especially for a 4 star review.

The graphics look fine and the sound seems well done, but the controls look terrible. I was getting frustrated just watching Brad play. The camera and first person really seem kind of broken. This game gives me the feeling of Jeff's "Mmm-hmm," comments. Other M looks interesting, but not really something I'm dying to play or drop $50 on. As a pre-Prime fan, this saddens me. I was hoping for a return to Super Metroid... or Zero Mission even.

@DrWhat: He's not confused, the game just has positive and negative aspects to it, just like most games. Sometimes you can overlook flaws when you're having an enjoyable experience, other times you get frustrated when the bad design choices get in the way of your enjoyment.

I always pronounced Aran and Zebes as this game does. They look like they sound. 
  
Anyways, this was probably one the dullest quick looks I've seen yet. Both you dudes sound utterly uninterested in the game. I'm personally excited about it.

This does not look good at all, it still looks super broken. I was a big fan of the Prime games, such a shame really. I am going to pass on this one sadly, maybe one day I will rent it. :(

Yeah, Brad, beam stacking is completely standard Metroid stuff.
 
As for the controls, it looks hard to tell without actually putting my hands on it. I do like the sense of movement between Samus and the enemies. How they latch onto her and how she gets knocked around after being attacked. It's neat to watch.

I'm pretty sure I won't have a problem with the controls, but with all the controller variations most Wii games support, I don't know why they didn't leave the nunchuck as an option. 
 
Also, glad to see the regular cavalcade of video comments, often reminding me of why I shouldn't read them.
