While I miss the art style of the original two games (felt they were closer to the the comics) I am surprised how good Penny Arcade fits as a JRPG

This why I love quick looks. Seeing it being played by normal dudes has much more of an impact than just some written review.

This game looks so funny I will be buying it.

Hey, a goofy looking indie-game that looks exactly like at least 4 other goofy looking indie retro RPG games I can think of off the top of my head.

Let us see if Ryan is as negative with this one as he is with aactual good games. Oh no? What a surprise..he is "really excitied" about this game.Hmmmm

So Gears clones that are actually decent? You rag on the entire QL. Indie-reto-RPG clones? You somehow are "really excited" for......interesting.

Only you could think the "writing" of this game is outstanding. 8 year olds might find it humerous I suppose.

Not a fan of Penny Arcade, and generally hate faux-retro games, but the writing and gameplay in this looks quite decent. I wouldn't buy this, but I'd at least watch a playthrough on YouTube.

Clearly his intellect and tastes are far beyond meer mortals. Do not question his opinion of other people's opinions of entertainment media or you may suffer The Wrath.

Edit: Oh, forgot what I was originally going to post: Hey, this looks great. Fun writing and some interesting old JRPG inspiration. I'll buy that for a dollar (five times over).

Really excited to check out the continued adventures from the Penny arcade guys. I just wish it had the same paper mario combat from the first 2 games. I'm not a fan of turn-based jrpg combat, so I hope the writing can keep my interest.

Well if Inversion (you are refering to Inversion, yes?) had been a good game, maybe Ryan would have had something posetiv to say about it. But its not, its complete shit, and one of the worst games so far this year.

I loved the first PAA game, but have absolutely no interest in this due to the lame-ass "retro" style. A Penny Arcade game shouldn't be completely devoid of Gabe's artstyle; that's half of what makes Penny Arcade Penny Arcade. Besides that, the novelty of games with the throwback look has worn the fuck off.

Fairly certain that the narrator was the only voice work done in the first two games. That said, reading some of those descriptions gets the point across so much better.....except for the whole "Mutineer" part.Drew, you should write for the Simpsons or something.

Loved the last PA games. Loved Cthulhu Saves the World and Breath of Death VII (though the former is a VASTLY superior sequel), particularly the combat system that lets you explore a dungeon without wading into a random encounter every 3 steps (which I hope they kept).

Edit: Also LOVING the animation! Something I felt was sorely lacking from the previous two games.

@impostle: It wasnt going to happen. Mike and Jerry (of penny arcade) said it was too much work for them to make another game. Especially dealing with PAX at the same time. They seem to have found a new developer for it so lets hope it turns out gewd!

Sort of ironic that the indie game scene has become so cliche and devoid of inspiration. The 8-bit graphic style has been beaten to death even more than the browns and drabs of modern military shooters and no one seems to be voicing there concern because I guess "well oh it's so indie and retro!!"

Talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk. Ryan and Patrick really love not doing anything, don't they? You guys don't need to overthink and overanalyze a fake 16-bit role-playing game. Just hit a button or something. Jesus.

Anyway, this game looks like shit compared to actual 16-bit games. Like the menus and enemy portraits look like they were thrown together in MS Paint.

I guess the alternative of them silently going through dialog isn't too entertaining, but listening to Ryan read the text was kind of mind-numbing.

Cool to see Zeboyd nab such an opportunity. The PAA was supposed to be a 4-part series - I wonder who will be in charge of the final chapter. Having gone through two developers now, they should change it up once more and employ yet another art style.

On a related note, I still want to see more Automata content. A point-and-clicker would be awesome. GET WADJET EYE UP ON THAT.

I really like Penny Arcade, and I enjoyed Breath of Death and Cthulhu Saves the World, but this actually doesn't look all that funny. And is it a follow-up to the previous games? Do I have to play them to get the story?

Could Penny Arcade get sued for this?

Because, I mean, that looks exactly like Final Fantasy VI. Illegally so.
