It looks like every attack has 5 different mini games, and the roles swap each time you attack. So one time some one does the aiming and someone does the timing, and the next time they switch. There seems to be enough room for there to be 3 more minigames up on the screen. Its actually a semi realistic way to have 5 guys control a robot by giving each player a role in every attack maneuver, but it's still not what you expect and pretty disappointing.

That show was so frustrating. Why do anything EXCEPT form blazing sword?   Always be forming blazing sword. If you know what I mean.
It's like how in every Power Rangers episode, the Power Rangers would fight the monster of the week by themselves, until the monster suddenly grew huge and forced the Power Rangers to call on their Zords to form into the MegaZord. It's like, why not form the MegaZord at the beginning of the fight? Why wait for the monster to grow?

I like how they were worrying bout their tower blowing up, but just completely ignored the one dude who was sitting there shooting it.

@Delta_Ass: Yeah, unless you buy into script logic, every episode of every transforming robot show ever should have ended in the first five minutes by stepping on the bad guy with your giant robot.

I saw a show on Funimation channel called "Aquarion" which is kinda Voltron-esque. Only difference was they had 3 ships and when they got into formation, whoever was the leader decided what abilites the giant robot had.

I geuss Japan really loves their giant robot tv shows.

If Japanese animation houses had anything to say about it, animated robots would be everything on TV.

I remember those Power Rangers episodes where first they transformed, then they called the Zord, then Tommy showed up and transformed, then he played the dagger and the Dragon Zord lumbered out, then they combined, then they formed the Ultrazord, and then there was the final firing animation.

Back when I was a kid, these sequences were AWESOME.  Now I can see it's a budget saver.  But that still doesn't stop me from capitalizing Zord... like some weird form of respect.

It was a while ago but no I don't believe I changed mine; I may have written something on-topic and just got lucky. I don't think I was actively going for the quest.

As for quoting others, I've done it a few times. I'm rarely in an opportunity to see the first comments as I don't seem to ever be online when new content is posted, so its not been that many occasions.

I've noticed a trend over the years of people posting completely random short responses and then almost immediately editing them, especially if they don't get the quest and come in second or third. As someone who thinks the 'First' quest is ridiculous I like to post up the fantastic constructive comments people post, the best example being 'a'. Yeah, I saw someone put a single letter once...and yes they changed it afterwards.

Why do you ask all these questions? Am I under investigation? If your a cop, you have to tell me.

Have you really done this a few times? Only I've looked through many of your posts in your history, but can't seem to find a single instance.

If you think the "first" quest "is ridiculous", then why boast that you have it yourself?

Why do you think my "great" comment was "completely random" and worthy of your quotation?

I ask you these questions since I'm genuinely interested in why someone would post such stuff. So - yes - you are under my investigation, but it wouldn't matter if I were a cop, as this is my personal investigation into your own self-aggrandisement, boasting, bismerchment of others and its consequences.

Just what the world needs...another daul-analog shooter! This one's based on a license that nobody cares about anymore, too! I used to watch Voltron on TV when I was a kid, but I could care less about it now. Plus, the Voltron gameplay looked horrible.

@diz: I wasn't boasting to have it myself I was simply stating that I had it, to give set-up to my original post where I was quoting others.

By your fascination with my act I assume you haven't seen others do the same as me? I didn't come up with the idea myself I saw others do it first and was in accord with them, that what people type to get the first quest is funny to read but because they typically edit it afterwards others don't get a chance to read it themselves. It was never meant as a method of insult as to my knowledge we all had the first quest ourselves and had all been through the same thing. Typing something like 'great' is not much of constructive on-topic comment is it? No, its just an attempt to get the first quest.

I will admit that my phrasing before about me doing it 'when I'm bored' was poorly put as it makes it seem as though I quote often when in reality it is the complete opposite. If you've looked at my previous posts like you said, you'll see that the last 2 months of posts don't include a single post of that nature. Have I actually done it before? Yes, probably 3 or so times in all but that was obviously a long time ago; in fact the once-common occurrence of seeing users quoting first comments has died down greatly over the past year or so.

In summary; I learnt the quoting from others and I did it myself a few times, then stopped. When I saw the first two comments on the Voltron video were 'comment' and 'great' It reminded me of before and I thought that was a pretty good opportunity to do it again; especially considering how rare it is that I'm online to see new videos posted.

Thanks for dedicating your time to trying to discover the conspiracy behind this, but there is none. If the objective of your little investigation is to get me to stop doing something I've only actually done a few times then sure I'll stop, no skin off my back.

Your post did sound like a boast. Why don't you think my "great" comment isn't a constructive and on-topic comment? My noted appreciation for the video was certainly more constructive and on-topic than your misguided and critical follow-up to it. Can you not see that?

It wasn't only your phrasing that was misguided. I don't believe that you've ever done this before, after reading your previous posts here. But if you did, then what did you really learn from others and why did you stop? Then why decide to think this opportunity was good enough to do it again?

I didn't think there would be a conspiracy behind this (- only you), but wanted to know your personal reasoning for proudly trumpeting an erroneous (those initial posts remain unchanged or deleted) reflection of your own poor judgements and actions on others. I think those reasons are becoming evident, so thanks for continuing to help clear up my little investigation.

I believe there are modern Votom shows in the form of OVA. Personally I haven't watched any of them though so I can't comment on their quality.

If you want to watch modern robot shows grounded in realistic settings I can recommend Break Blade (broken blade). 6 episodes, 50 minutes each, entertaining story, and the series is finished for now. English subbed versions of it are available on the net.

And since you enjoyed 8th MS team you might also like Gundam Unicorn. It goes through some common gundam storybeats where, for example, a young protagonist with teenage angst is somehow chosen to pilot a machine that is way more technologically advanced than anything available to the enemy. But in general the characters are more fleshed out than typical gundam shows, the soundtrack is excellent, and the art style is unique. Oh, and the dubbed versions of this show are released simultaneously with the japanese track versions, in case you don't like reading subtitles.

"why did you stop? Then why decide to think this opportunity was good enough to do it again?"

I am never on when content is posted, I've mentioned this multiple times now. I haven't been hugely active; I have been here long enough to see new users join the site and then exceed the 1000 post mark, while I have only just recently passed 400. I posted because I was logged in when the video was put up, which is an extremely rare occurrence.

Going on the video page, viewing quick looks and going back a few pages (like I said, its not as common as it once was) I found this:

http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-adrenalin-misfits/17-3464/

Not only did the user type complete nonsense, instead of editing it they just straight up deleted it; but as you can see it was too late as it was quoted by others. Also note that the third user makes a joke related to the comment.

Another:

http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-prince-of-persia-the-forgotten-sands/17-2500/

This is an example of editing a comment. They didn't write that first time, they came back and edited it once they realised they had got the quest. Now scroll down and see the user who got second, jokingly swear at them.

I don't know how long you've been on this site but the first quest stuff used to be humorous and light hearted. Even the staff would get involved, posting on their own videos to steal the glory of getting the quest and I remember them mentioning how ridiculous it was getting in podcasts back when GB first started. Ironically enough Jeff posted a video yesterday where he takes the first comment.

You have given the perfect demonstration of people taking it all too seriously, and it just proves to me that things have changed since the birth of this site.

Feel free to keep going if you like, but I feel this whole encounter has taken up far too much of my time as well as yours.

You certainly write a lot for someone so evasive! Why not answer the question posed and quoted from me (which followed on from what you'd admitted), rather than try justifying your actions again by posting examples of others that differ from our case anyway?

I've been with the site since day 1 too - but I don't know what that brag has to do with how people conduct themselves on-line. I simply don't believe my "great" comment merited your derision, so am having some fun in getting you to justify yourself to me. I'm chuffed you think my time is so valuable!

@diz: One word responses like 'great' and 'cool' are quite common on this site and are obvious attempts at getting the first quest. If you feel the subject matter (in this case, Voltron) or the fact that a new QL is up is worth complimenting you could type more than one word, couldn't you? Unless of course you don't have the quest and are still trying to get it? To me that is the only logical reason you would write such a scant comment.

With that said the primary reason your comment was quoted was because of the other short comment above you. Honestly if you'd been the only person to post a one word response I wouldn't have bothered, but you weren't the only one.

My phrasing 'never gets old' was referring to the continuing battle of trying to get the quest and all the short comments people use to get it. I don't know if you've noticed but since the quest system launched almost every video on the site has had people attempting to get that quest. What better way to demonstrate that battle than by quoting both your comments rather than just the user who typed 'comment'?

It seems to me that you think it was meant as some sort of insult which I can ensure you, it wasn't. I simply quoted both of you and jokingly said that these types of comments 'never get old'. You then go to great lengths to try and prove that I haven't done this before, and continue to accuse me of being boastful.

When typing my original comment, bragging was the last thing on my mind. I stated that I had done the quest before because I felt that without that context, my quoting of others would look as though it was done out of spite for not being first myself; I didn't want that misunderstanding so I decided to include that information. This being the internet; a limited avenue for communication, meant that that context was lost and you ended up assuming something that wasn't.

when i first saw the video link, i thought someone had remade the voltron cartoon and was making a tie in game, in which case i would be indifferent. But this concept of making games of old school stuff is awesome and might deserve a purchase even if im never going to play it.

One word responses are common on all forums and are promoted on GiantBomb, because of that quest system. Jeff does this too, as you went to great lengths to show me. As a self-described "mature" subscriber yourself, wouldn't you be used to this by now?

My one word response was chosen so that I wouldn't need to replace it with anything else. Your assumption that I would or should, based on your own previous behaviour, seemed like a transference on your part. It certainly does not warrant your current diatribe of defensive posturing.

Please don't blame me or the internet for your own failings of character or meaning, but do let me know what was on your mind when you posted your incorrect remarks about me changing what I write.

Most users, not all and more importantly, did I ever say you should change your comment? I don't think I did.

When your ready feel free to go back over our conversation and see who turned the tone of it; heres a clue, it wasn't me. I continued to use a light heartened manner when joking about you asking me questions etc, but you suddenly changed your behaviour and started spouting blame towards me.

You misunderstood my comment, took all this too seriously and have reacted in a completely unreasonable fashion. I posted my original comment in a humorous style but your too overly sensitive to realise that.

Thanks for the chat, but I've had enough of this.

I think you digress when you use that ad-populem argument: You in fact did say "I still love viewing the first few comments before they get edited". That is an implicit inference that I would change my post, seeing as you'd quoted me as well.

I think I'm reasoning this all out quite well. Its you who've gone on an over-blown waffle in defence of poor humour (or was it egotism?). Just look at your text-wall responses! Your amazing wit didn't work out on this occasion. Thanks for being a sport in replying as you have done so far.

@Johnny5:

Oh yeah. Modern stuff is tricky for me. For me the 80's are where its at. But there's some good stuff from the last 10 years. There was a Votoms OVA movie called Case Irving that came out last year that was pretty solid. Its nice for you because it requires absolutely no prior knowledge of the franchise, but there are a few neat homages to the the original series.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is really really great. There aren't any giant robots but there are quadrapedal tanks and power armor suits that get used from time to time that are nice. Also, it is pretty much the modern Neuromancer so if you like cyberpunk, you kind of have to see it eventually.

There is a show called Flag! that is excellent. Its about a photographer lady that gets embedded with a group of peacekeepers in a fictional Central Asian country that is caught up in a bloody civil war. I love the very realistic design of the mechs and I have heard nothing but glowing praise for it so that's a good bet.

Planetes has no robots at all but is a very interesting hard science fiction story about people working in the debris collection department of a corporation, cleaning up junk clouding up earth's orbit. The reasoning is that in space, even something as small as a screw can destroy an entire space shuttle if it hits it just right, so extreme care is taken to find and eliminate debris as soon as possible. It uses very hard science fiction and I just love it to death.

Let me preface this by saying that the next suggestion requires a healthy appreciation for crap, but Code Geass. The first season has some really neat grunts and low level tactical combat. The second season goes completely off the rails with magic and gets really really bad. Also the show has the most overwrought, comedically awful drama I have ever seen in the medium and is impossible to take seriously. On the whole, if you like laughing at silly ass anime bullshit and like competent mech fighting, its worth a try.

@K9: Thanks a ton for your posts and all the effort! I dont necesserily want something modern, I was just wondering what was out there. I'm definitely going to check these out.

Also partially why I liked 8th MS team more is because, they had actually decent backstories and relationship drama, not just to progress to fights. Kind of like War in the Pocket, but that wasn't really militaristic/tactical.

@Krystal_Sackful: Thanks as well for these! Ive heard of flag and it seems good, ive never watched anything with Votoms either, so I'll have to look at all this stuff.

Damn, the music in level 2 sounds a lot like the E1M1 music from Doom, and since they said this uses the original Voltron music, and Bobby Prince's classic soundtracks for Doom/Blake Stone etc. are notorious for ripping off popular music (mostly stuff like Pantera, Slayer and Guns & Roses though), I wonder if the Doom track was an "homage" to this?

Personally, I think the Voltron system is super cool, gives that feeling of coop when you're all inside one robot.

Red is the leader. In these types of shows, Red is always the leader.

I could listen to Peter Cullen's voice everyday for the rest of my life and never get tired of hearing it.

I had a large motorized Voltron as a kid. The AC adapter got stuck in a door so I cut it off with scissors thus rendering it useless. My M.A.S.K. toys were stolen. My Metroplex's legs broke off and my Ultra Magnus was stolen. My Optimus Prime lost his trailer, hands and riffle. My Starscream had broken wings and nozzle. My Cy-Kill Gobot lost his wheels. My mother gave away ALL my Transformers! I lent a friend my copy of Super Mario Kart and his mother threw it out along with his comic book collection and someone else's copy of Maximum Carnage. My parents bought me The complete HItchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy for my birthday: all five books in one volume which was stolen.

Why am I telling you this? Because therapists DON'T GET IT! They're not trained or equipped to UNDERSTAND! FUCK THERAPISTS! FUCK THEM ALL!!!

Anyway, the voice actress who played Haggar the Witch in the cut-scene is Betty Jean Ward who did voices on the Super Mario Bros. Super Show/The Legend of Zelda. She also played Scarlett on G.I.Joe and Velma Dace Dinkley on Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law. She is the voice of the Epcot Center in Euro-Disney Land.

Yurak is voiced by Jack Angel who did Astrotrain, Ramjet, Omega Supreme and Ultra Magnus. He is also the voice of Smokey the Bear and the preacher in Beetlejuice.

A good M.A.S.K game would be awesome! I also had the motorcycle that became a helicopter. Also the theme for M.A.S.K is most awesome!

@Terrents: Toei Animation worked on both of these shows, so its very likely that if the background paintings are not the same, they're made by the same people

Oh what a trip. In the group shot Blue will be the Red, Red will be Black, and as I recall Black dies, and the Princess becomes Blue. I didn't realize their colors changed.
