Unprofessional Fridays: 02/14/2014

I feel bad for people who went with Genesis watching Alex Kidd. That game and Super Mario World were one year apart. There's no excuse for how shitty Alex Kidd is. I can understand looking at Alex Kidd how Genesis people thought Sonic was great. They had no idea what platforming was. Also they didn't have any of the Donkey Kong Countries which are way better than any Sonic and a fair amount better than World.

The Brass Monkey I know is the one Brad was talking about. Drink a Mickeys 40oz down to the top fo the label. Fill it all the way back up with OJ. Turns out that is not the original Brass Monkey.

I don't think that's true, the NES had scrolling built in as a hardware feature, something most home computers at that time (the C64 being an notable exception) didn't have. What Carmack and Romero tried to do was to get relatively smooth scrolling on machines that didn't have any hardware scrolling capabilities, especially the Apple II and later the IBM PC.

Maybe Brad was thinking of a trash monkey which involves drinking a 40 of malt liquor to the top of the label and refilling it with an energy beer like sparks. I've never tried it but according to MBMBaM it really fucks you up.

The Pouyo Pouyo game that came out in Japan is Tetris vs Pouyo Pouyo. Where players fight by picking which one they play and mess up the other board.

@trilogy: Sure it is. I don't like it, so I don't care about it. This belief that just because I don't like something that I need to have some sort of rosey outlook of, "I think this game is hot garbage, but someone likes it so I respect the game for it is" is dumb.

No, that's not correct at all. I know people like certain things, but I don't have to respect, understand, or care at all. Someone probably thinks that Gianna Sisters is better than Super Mario Bros...that doesn't mean I need to respect that opinion. I never said anything vitriolic about anyone who likes whatever games, for example Kid Icarus, so in the end it doesn't really matter what I say or think. Thinking that it does is only the opinion of someone who really, really, really likes Kid Icarus and cares too much about what I say or think on the subject.

I never said you did, I'm simply expressing that I think that understanding isn't a dirty word. It doesn't require that you actually agree. Yea, it's a step beyond simple acknowledgement, but I think it's worth it.

The flip side is that we do things your way, where you think people are wrong for liking something you think is bad, and I think you're wrong because I think the thing you don't like is better than you give it credit for (hypothetically speaking). It's just a stalemate where be both think that our opinions are somehow universally factual.

But whatever, duder. You do whatever you want. Just sharing my perspective.

Haven't laughed as hard as I did during Gang Beasts in a long time. One of the best Giantbomb segments ever. What an amazing, goofy game. Coop games are always entertaining when Giantbomb plays them but this one has to take the cake, it was just pure hilarity the whole way through. Makes me wish I had friends to play with, I really hope the devs don't change it much from it's current awesomeness as they continue to develop the game. Move aside Windjammers.

@sammo21: I played the original Kid Icarus for the first time on 3DS like a year ago, and I think hands down it's one of the best NES games of all time. I also had the Gameboy sequel as a kid, which is pretty much garbage. Nostalgia doesn't factor into either of those opinions.

That Gang Beasts segment was probably the funniest thing I've seen on Giant Bomb. That was incredible.

Everyone's said it but it's worth saying again. That Gang Beasts segment was the freaking best!!! They guys do and say some pretty hilarious stuff on a regular basis, but that was history right there. That was National Geographic Kinect levels of entertainent.

They got 18+ pages of comments mentioning seeing it on Giant Bomb on their Greenlight page, I hope that means they're on their way to getting greenlit.

This is hands down one of the funniest UPF the GB crew have done. I also agree with Jeff. Alex Kidd was fucking garbage.
