TrackMania 2 Stadium Server

#51 Posted by wrathofconn (1460 posts) -

@morbid_coffee: Blinnemans is without a doubt my Trackmania Track Designer of this year and all years.

#52 Edited by Stevemax (134 posts) -

Some sweet tracks and tunes happening on this server. I may look into designing tracks once I get used to holding alt and moving the camera like a pro.

#53 Posted by audioBusting (1305 posts) -

I had much fun today playing on the servers for 4 hours straight.. Thank you, you wonderful GB Trackmaniacs.

#54 Edited by ack (136 posts) -

man there's some tough maps on here, maybe i'm just not used to stadium idk, i couldn't finish 4 in a row

#55 Posted by Happenstance (455 posts) -

Thanks for sorting the servers. I've had fun playing the beta this weekend on them, probably convinced me to buy Stadium. Been a couple of years since I last played a Track mania game.

It's not just you, don't worry. TM2 Stadium is pretty new yet, so tracks are scarce, and most of the tracks on Trackmania Exchange are ports of old (generally hard) tracks. We're adding anything we can find and removing some of the overly hard or awful tracks as we go.

#57 Posted by Gnubberen (734 posts) -

Serious stuff here... From Jeff's Official server though.

#58 Edited by Mister_V (963 posts) -

@Gnubberen: Yeah I think Jeff's server has now died.

#59 Posted by Zaccheus (1770 posts) -

Thanks @Karsh and @Jeff for the servers. It's been a long time since I played Trackmania Nations? Forever? I don't even remember.

#60 Posted by Karsh (154 posts) -

To quote Jeff's server's control panel,

Uh, I appear to have been IP banned from the server and I don't quite know why. It had something to do with time incoherence. I got lost on the track it happened on and restarted at a checkpoint a few times. From the brief research I did, it appears it's got something to do with multiple checkpoints on overlapping tiles. By resetting to a checkpoint, the game gets confused by it or something. This was also a problem back in Nations apparently.

To be honest I haven't got the slightest clue. It's 1.20am here, so I'm tired and confused. Not a good combination when trying to make a coherent post about matters such as this.

I made a track today and it's not terrible. How do I make my track available for people to play?

#64 Edited by RioStarwind (370 posts) -

I've never played Trackmania 2 before and I think these servers might have sold me on buying Stadium at some point.

Post it to Mania Exchange, or if you don't think it's ready for that, upload it somewhere and link it here so I can add it locally to the servers for testing.

Which server, and what's your Trackmania account name?

#66 Posted by spookytapes (256 posts) -

Thanks again @Karsh and Jeff. Played for several hours yesterday and friday night, think I'm going to hop in tonight for a bit. as well. I think I am going to look into building some tracks... if SimCity doesn't distract me come tuesday.

Never having used ManiaPlanet before and being an idiot, how do I join the server?

You'll find it under Multiplayer --> All --> Filter: World and you should see it within the first few pages as it's fairly active.

Alrighty, so I've made my very first map and just wondering if there's a place for users to upload their creations, if they're decent enough perhaps they can be added to the mix. If using something like mediafire to share is allowed here let me know.

#69 Edited by ChrisHarris (173 posts) -

This is the result of my first time dicking around in any TrackMania editor:

CDH_001.Map.Gbx (yes, the name is unimaginative)

I was curious as to how a transition to a horizontal wall ride from inside a loop might play. I think that part came out all right, for a first attempt. If I felt like starting over, I would probably make the loop begin as high as possible to allow for more wall time on the way down. I should have probably added a GPS because of that section, but I was too lazy to look up how to do it.

#70 Edited by Stevemax (134 posts) -

Maybe we should have a thread just for maps? I'm just to lazy to create and maintain it. I'll check it out though. Also here's what I came up with: TM2 Stadium Map.

edit: That loop idea is cool, but I found is frustrating to line it up properly the first few times. I either go to high and hit something or to low then slide off the wall.

It was on the Unofficial Classic server. My username is wakacha.

#72 Posted by Karsh (154 posts) -

Thanks for the tracks, guys! I'll add them to Unofficial Classic when I get back from campus tonight.

My server's banlist is empty. Are you able to connect to other servers (e.g. Official Classic)? Could be a temporary global IP ban, I've seen that happen before.

#73 Posted by Ravenlight (8033 posts) -

I'm digging the fact that people are making new tracks. Some of the ones on the server currently are kinda meh. Glad that we're getting some new ones :D

#74 Posted by GentlemanlyGentleman (317 posts) -

@karsh: Whatever happened, it's over now. I was able to join the server there now.

Peculiar.

#75 Posted by chilibean_3 (1581 posts) -

@karsh: Thanks to you and Jeff for getting these up. I don't want to get manic anywhere else.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that this track needs to be added to the jukebox. If you could Karsh, we will be very grateful.

EDIT: Or this version. Any Trouble remix basically.

#77 Posted by indieslaw (317 posts) -

Just another thanks @Karsh, very cool of you to maintain all this. I had a blast playing this weekend, even if I still suck at trackmania. Does it cost you much to run? Do you have a tipjar or something set up?

#78 Posted by Overbite (188 posts) -

Here's my map

RIGHT HURR

Please try it out and tell me it sucks.

@joey: Good stuff! Hopefully Jeff will happen by and upload some of these.

#81 Posted by indieslaw (317 posts) -

Playing now, it looks like its all stock Nadeo maps. Did the server reset or something?

#82 Posted by Karsh (154 posts) -

Just got home. I'll be uploading community-made tracks soon.

@videorob said:

Official Classic did. I just restored its tracklist, everything's back to normal now.

Also regarding donations, I really don't want to actively field for donations from this community for doing something I want to do, but if you think I'm doing a good job and want to help pay for server costs, then you can donate here.

I've had so much fun at this server already, but can someone please explain me what's the practical use of Planet points?

#85 Edited by Stevemax (134 posts) -

@alibambam: From what I've gathered (not using them previously in Canyons), you purchase the use of imported cars models for very little as well as donate them to users for creating fun tracks etc, maybe more but someone else may fill you in. :)

** @Karsh: I've created a new track as well as fixed my previous one up, new --> RADICALJump & ^ old. I'd donate you a couple of dollars if you present another method, one less site that knows my details the better!

#86 Edited by Karsh (154 posts) -

Planets are pretty worthless right now until Nadeo reimplements custom car models and more Manialink functionality. But even then they're pretty dang worthless because most models worth a crap are posted to Trackmania Carpark for free. So generally planets are just a metric for how much you like something and how much completely arbitrary funmoney you want to throw at servers and content creators.

Got both tracks and I'll upload them tonight, along with any other tracks that people submit by the time I get home. Also here's a PayPal donation link.

#87 Edited by Stevemax (134 posts) -

Sounds good so the karma/voting system for tracks should weed out the terrible tracks which you'll just take out of the rotation if they're to low? Also have another track --> OddChance (link updated). :)

#88 Edited by Karsh (154 posts) -

Good news! I was finally able to retrieve my Stadium player key, which allowed me to validate Unofficial Classic, which allows me to set it as a registered ladder server. I've never completely understood how the ladder system works, but I believe this means you can go above 50k ladder points on the server once I dump 10k planets into Nadeo's sink.

Got it, looking forward to playing it tonight. And regarding karma: I generally delete tracks under 50% local karma.

Also thanks to you and Brian B., between both of your donations I was able to pay for another month of increased memory for the VPS hosting Unofficial Classic. The 50 playercap will live on!

#89 Posted by Torrim (326 posts) -

Canyon seemed all but dead when I jumped back on a few days ago. Not to mention when I did find a good server the tracks were awful.

Just got Stadium to revive the TrackMANIA. See you there!

Awesome, we'll I'll keep making tracks as long as there is a server and people are enjoying them. :)
As I've only created 3 maps in total, I'm still learning all the cool doodads and blocks, even though it's rather easy to make a track it's difficult to make one that someone can sit on for a few minutes to improve their time over and over and want to come back to it without growing tired of it.

#91 Posted by Karsh (154 posts) -

Just a heads up, Jeff's server (Official Classic) is undergoing host maintenance again. Nothing I can do about it except groan because TrackmaniaServer.org didn't post about it in advance so it's probably something catastrophic.

#92 Edited by Panzerhandschuh (1 posts) -

Please check out my track and add it if you like it: http://tm.mania-exchange.com/tracks/29906/2-fast

It's very fast paced with plenty of loops and wall rides.

#93 Posted by Karsh (154 posts) -

An update regarding Official Classic--The server's host is apparently being upgraded. Kinda crappy that they informed us of this AFTER they started working on it, but oh well. Quoth TrackmaniaServer:

Today our datacenter will upgrade the hardware of the Hostsytem Cluster6 (like on Cluster4 before). All servers will gain more ressources to improve the stability. During the maintenance the Hostsystem must be shut down. we will keep you informed about the progress via this blog.

Update 08:42: The hostsystem is up in testing mode for stability checks.

#95 Edited by Forderz (243 posts) -

@Karsh You really need to excise the nadeo maps from the rotation. They are all quite boring.

#96 Posted by MachoFantastico (4307 posts) -

Was looking for an awesome server to join, many thanks Karsh.

#97 Edited by Andorski (5111 posts) -

The server was poppin' off yesterday. Had to wait a good while in spectator mode before I could join the game. Also, is the Far Cry 3 pot burning mission song in the tracklist, because it needs to be there.

#98 Posted by trotoise (34 posts) -

Hey guys, don't know if any of you are playing the Trials Evolution Gold beta, but I've been learning the editor and while searching for inspiration for a level, I decided that I wanted to pay homage to that masterpiece of level design and symbol of track editor mastery, Karsh's Star Wars Metallica. I just uploaded my take on it to Track Central, so check it out if you want.

#99 Edited by d4nny (1 posts) -

is it possible to get the server playlist posted?

Hey I made another map, this one is better than my first one. Shorter too.
