    A mixed bag 2

Let me say straight away that Uncharted 2 is my favourite game of all time so Uncharted 3 had a lot to live up to. Reading other reviews of the game, with a general consensus of "more of the same", I was hugely looking forward to this. After just completing it however I have to say that it most certainly isn't Uncharted 2.2, it's more like Uncharted 1.7.Let me start with the good : when Uncharted 3 gets it right nothing else can touch it. The standout moment for me is the cargo plane sequence wh...

The one ring to rule them all. 3

For what it was, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was near perfect in my honest opinion. It bridged a chasm of platforming, shooting, puzzle and some occasional stealth obstacles, all smoothly fitted and handled like a dream (well, some of the stealth stuff was a little kooky). The storyline wasn't particularly deep, but it had style, flair and a great cast of characters. It's completely subjective of course, but many would likely consider Uncharted 2 as one of the greatest games of this current gener...

    Drake's Misfortune 0

It is hard not to go into Uncharted 3 with lofty expectations. 2009's Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was a stellar blend of cinematic action, frenetic pacing and spectacular set pieces that combined together to make it one of the best games of that year. Unfortunately, the follow-up title's attempts to match that seem to have fallen short.Let's start with the great: this game looks fantastic. I don't know what sort of artist and programming wizards they employ at Naughty Dog, but everything is beaut...

Third time's almost the charm 0

When Uncharted 2 saw the light of day back in 2009 I don’t think anybody expected it to become as big as it actually did. But it did make quite an impression on the gaming world and suddenly the stakes were higher than ever before. Could Naughty Dog do it again? Could they make another masterpiece in the action/adventure genre? In 2011 Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception was released.Drake and Sully + a new friendNathan Drake and the gang are back and this time they are searching for the lost city of...

A Brilliant Game That's Hard Not To Nitpick 2

To talk about Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception without comparing it to its excellent predecessor Among Thieves would be difficult. In fact, I’m certain it’s a crime that I haven’t played Drake’s Fortune to compare them both back another two years. Little else has really tried to capture the cinematic action gameplay the series offers, let alone the frantic destructive setpiece design. The two games even share similar arcs and locations, to the point where those experienced with Uncharted might be ...

Great Experience, Sub-par Shooter and Story 0

Earlier this year I had my first opportunity to play through Uncharted 2, and I thought it was amazing. The incredible setpieces (the train level, falling off a cliff, being chased by a truck down an alleyway, etc.) were all breathtaking, and the visuals were mostly great as well. The shooting gameplay was...lacking, in some ways, but was a huge improvement over the original Uncharted of which I had played about an hour or so a few years back. I had some serious issues with pacing and enemy AI a...

    Improving on the Improvements 0

The third game in the Uncharted series takes an extra step towards amazing action games that doesn't care to look like a completely over the top popcorn action movie, while being awesome. I thought the second game was way better then the first one, improving in every level, and I think the third one is slightly better the his predecessor, keeping the trend upwards. The game keeps delivering on the crazy moments, amazing visuals and incredible graphical detail. Again, having a great villain - lik...

Brilliantly Conceived, but Issues in Story and Gameplay 0

From the first time Nathan Drake appeared on screen to the final moments of Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, one must acknowledge the improvement that studio Naughty Dog has shown perfecting their craft. In its latest installment in their recently popular, acclaimed Uncharted series, it feels like they've reached the pinnacle of Video Games as Cinema, emulating the camera angles, dialogue and set pieces of a big budget action film, while still making the game feel original and creative in its own...

    Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Review 0

“Here we go again.” Nathan Drake is back in an all new thrilling masterpiece that is a complete joy to play from start to finish. Uncharted 3 is the sole reason why I own a PlayStation 3. It such a fun and engaging game. My only complaint is where is the sequel? The game is a masterpiece just simply waiting to be recognized. Very little in the game is “new” and nothing we haven’t seen before, but it is the most refined and enticing entry I’ve seen yet. Drake’s Fortune gave us a thrilling single-...

    U3 0

It is almost impossible to talk about Uncharted 3 in some kind of vacuum; it's amazing predecessor, Uncharted 2, is literally the blueprint for Uncharted 3 in almost every way. Unfortunately, the ability to replicate that great experience is not a smooth one. First off, the good. Uncharted 3 is still a beautiful game, without a doubt the best looking game on the platform at that point. There are still epic set pieces, the music is still appropriately stirring when it needs to be and the ...

    Uncharted 3 Review 0

There are certain games that I'm sure to buy every time a new installment comes out. I'll always pick up the new Gears of War or Call of Duty, Witcher or Assassin's Creed. Uncharted is on that list. I'll overlook whatever faults the games may have for a few reasons: I like the big, goofy adventure plotlines, the well drawn characters, and the big action set pieces. Uncharted 3 delivers these in spades. Whether you're in a cruise ship graveyard, battling to stay behind cover as that cover rolls b...

    Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception 2

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune managed to successfully blend together third person shooting and traversal-based platforming into something that was coherent and mostly fun to play, but it was the kind of thing where most people saw it as untapped potential. That potential was pretty much fully exploited in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, which greatly improved the graphics, environmental sophistication, dynamism of the plot, and basically everything about the gameplay to be better, creating a unique and...

    fun, yet sloppy 0

uncharted 3 is still a fun game but it hits too many of the same beats from the last game, worse yet the story feels a bit sloppy this time around and the action bits felt kinda thrown together,I am getting tired of how these games hold your hand the whole way through for example, when solving puzzlesyou can pull up drake,s trusty journal anytime doing so pretty much spells it all out for you ( think of it as an ingamestrategy guide) however your buddy Sully, still insist on telling you exactly w...

Naughty Dog must be making other developers feel shamed. The crew at Naughty Dog is pushing video game limits as far as we’ve seen to this day and further than many had ever thought possible on this current gen of consoles. Uncharted 3 is another great game and arguably from an objective standpoint the best in the series. Uncharted 2 was ground breaking in the sense that it’d never been done that well before and Uncharted 3 simply tweaked the formula even that much more. The game play in Uncharte...

The Greatest Movie That Happens to Have a Game Inside 0

Uncharted 1 was a pretty game undone by its combat and flabbergastingly awful final chapters. Uncharted 2 was not a game undone, but it was certainly a game held back by increasingly cheap armored and one-hit kill enemies as the game went along.Uncharted 3, for whatever reason, chose not to improve anything about the fundamental combat: the aiming is still tiresomely sluggish, enemies don't react at all to being shot unless it's in the head which leaves bullets feeling impactless, and most impor...

A welcome addition to the Season Pass bundle, but nothing more. 0

Expanding on the highly enjoyable cooperative campaign, simply title Cooperative Adventure, The Fort acts as a prelude to the loose tale of Nathan Drake and his many cohorts attempting to thwart Zoran Lazarevic in a neat little alternate universe where Zoran is also once more paired with fellow Uncharted 2: Among Thieves antagonist Harry Flynn, and more surprisingly even Eddy Raja from Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. It was a fun bundle of fiction, that mixed in elements of all three games;...

A decent video game that could have been an amazing movie. 0

This is going to sound odd, but I think Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception would have been better as a movie than as a video game. I am not trying to say it is a bad game, it is actually good, but it is more of the fact that the experience is extremely guided to the point where they might as well have taken away the controller from the user. The story tries to capture an epic feeling, like what the previous Uncharted games had, but falls short which results in a jumbo of plot points that don't get f...

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception ReviewWhen Naughty Dog released Uncharted 2: Among Thieves in 2009, it raised the bar for the action/adventure genre and console games in general. I thoroughly enjoyed the previous Uncharted games, and was excited to dive into more via Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. And for the most part, that’s exactly what Uncharted 3 is; more Uncharted. That means this is an explosive action game full of spectacular set pieces and lovable characters. It may not rewrite the book on action games, but Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is a good time nonetheless.Uncharted 3 is about as standard as sequels come, and offers exactly what you would expect from th...

Perfect Action Adventure, Grievous 3rd Person Shooter. Perfectly sums up my sentiments on Uncharted 3's singleplayer campaign. My frowns were frequent. Just as frequent as getting a shotgun blast to the back from some random guntug coming out of nowhere. Uncharted 3 Review 0

As Uncharted 3 hits shelves, the title is in an odd position. The only game that it’s looking to emulate is its predecessor. Uncharted 2, was and still is one of the best 3rd person action adventure games not only of this generation, but ever. It is by no means an understatement to say that Uncharted 3 has a lot to live up to if it is going to achieve the same dizzy heights of its older brother. The third installment of the Uncharted series looks to wrap up the plot and underlying themes of the l...

Spiderman and his cheesy melodrama return. 0

I was once under the conception that the film and video game mediums were separate genres and were – to the delight and hope of us many gamer entities- to never be intertwined. Uncharted series has been exceeding at this contrived art for the past two games, almost to the extent where I’m watching a movie with a button element. The arrogant bastards at Naughty Dog–to no surprise- transcended the third release desperately further as monotonous twists in the environment fall into the story of the ...

The ultimate action movie fantasy, I expected more games to go this way with the more powerful consoles but that hasn't seemed to happen. I don't think I'll ever get used to aiming with a controller.I bought my PS3 specifically to play Uncharted 2, but I didn't finish it until the day before this one came out, specifically because I was hyped to play this game, now 5 years later I'm only getti...

That's right ladies and gentlemen, I have finally topped off the Uncharted trilogy. At least I finished it while it is still a trilogy, I could see a fourth installment being made, but that is neither here nor there. The fact of the matter is Uncharted 3 compounds on the theory that this franchise is the best franchise on the console. You will not find an experience like this on that Microsoft Xbox system that's for sure. Drake's Deception continues the trend of edge of your seat action and stor...

Uncharted 2 is one of my favorite games ever made, so right off the bat this game had a lot of expectations to live up to. And for the most part the game delivers perfectly but it just doesn't have the same "feel" that Uncharted 2 had. It's hard to pin down what feels like its missing, but that is a very small problem in a truly incredible gaming experience. One of the game's many intense set pieces.I'm going to start off with the basics, gameplay. Uncharted 3: Drake’s fortune is a strong sequel with several great features. Campaign wise the gameplay matches up to that of Uncharted 2. There are plenty of excuses to go globetrotting and the amazing set pieces from the last game show up again with new twists. Jumping out of a plane with no parachute is as fun as it sounds. New features include the ability to throw back grenades and a more complex hand-to-hand combat mechanic. The action still dazzles and is very satisfying. Special mention ha...

Uncharted 3 is solidly entertaining despite not being any better 0

As arguably the best game of 2009, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves set the bar ridiculously high for Naughty Dog’s next outing with series. The cinematic flair of the action, the peerless character interaction and the incredible pacing of Uncharted 2’s globe-trotting romp has become the yardstick that the competition has failed to meet ever since. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception doesn’t quite measure up to that yardstick. It proves that there’s still a ton of fun to be had with the formula, but the sh...

Nathan Drake is back, with his mentor Victor Sullivan, and this time he travels the world in search of the legendary lost city the Iram of the Pillars in the Rub' al Khali desert. The plot draws from the archaeology days of T. E. Lawrence. The story this time really drives home the relationship between Drake and Sully. Naughty Dog delivers another triumphant adventure for PS3 owners. If you played the previous two then you kind of have an idea of what to expect. If you haven't, you can still jump into this game and enjoy it. You'll be lost when it comes to some of the characters and their history with Drake, but nothing imperative to the story.Everything in this game is top-notch; from the frenetic pace of the combat to the clever (but not too clever) puzzles you encounter. Played this for the first time since the original PS3 version at launch. It doesn't quite hold up as the "must-play" it was at the time, but is still a fun title in one of my favorite franchises. The first half is supremely boring, but once you get to the ship wrecking site the game really takes off and is a blast through to the end. Needed to leave some content on the editing room floor so to speak. Overall it falls well behind 2, LL and 4, but still amounts to a solid Uncharted which all fans...

I firmly believe that a lot of developers need to pay attention to Naughty Dog, if they haven't already. Apart from Valve, I have difficulty trying pinpoint a studio that has been more ambitious in its storytelling, scope and presentation than the folks from Santa Monica. The Uncharted franchise stands, in my mind, as one of the better action game trilogies of this generation because of deep attention paid towards character development and narrative and also making a game that is fun to play - t...

Going into Uncharted 3 one could say I was more than a little bit excited. After Uncharted 2 I was more than ready for more globe trotting, train hopping, ass kicking action than ever. Among Thieves set such a high precedent for what could follow that I honestly wondered if they could live up to their own standards. I loved Uncharted 2 so much, and played the hell out of the multiplayer that I enjoyed so much, that every other video game that year fell to the waste side. Uncharted 3 was an insta...

Uncharted 3 is a fantastic cinematic experience that plays well and is entertaining from start to finish. That being said, there are some significant potholes along the way that, while they don’t derail this fantastic experience, certainly cause it to slow down. Uncharted 3 picks up a while after Uncharted 2 with Drake and his longtime companion Sully searching for a new treasure while following in the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia and Sir Francis Drake. At the end of Uncharted 2, peace is restored, love is found, and jokes are made. Uncharted 3 did not need to exist to finish any story arch. No henchman of Lazaravic got away. No shocking twist revealed a nuclear plot at the very end. Uncharted 2 ended and it was good.Uncharted 3, then, has to prove its existential necessity. It does so in the sophisticated arena of characterization. It tries to tell us who Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan, and to a lesser extent their posse, are--what they care...

How do you follow up one of the most perfect video games ever made? If you’re part of Naughty Dog, the answer is apparently to obfuscate most of the elements that made that game so great and break the rest. That might sound unnecessarily harsh, especially because Uncharted 3 is still a great game, but it’s hard not to be disappointed by what should be one of the best action games of all time when it turns out “merely” great.Picking up a few years after Uncharted 2 came to a close, this third ent...
