all of these other threads talk so much smack about this game and how the free weekend is a fail, but i've been playing this with my friends and have had a blast doing so, so im planning on dropping the $12 tomorrow to keep playing the thing.
Unreal Tournament 3
Game » consists of 10 releases. Released Dec 10, 2007
The third main installment of the fast-paced arena-based first-person shooter brings its futuristic world to the Unreal Engine 3 game engine while adding a grimy aesthetic and a new story-based single-player campaign (involving a crew of mercenaries set out to avenge their fallen colony against the Necris).
So is anyone actually buying UT3 after playing the free weekend?
"Free weekend? How many people were actually able to play it on that weekend, for free?"Anybody with Steam. It's actually still going on if you can manage to download all 8.6GB (I believe that's how big it is) before the free offer ends sometime tomorrow (around 1PM PDT).

"Karmum said:I was aware it was on Steam, but my joke backfired, perhaps. Since many of the users here expressed complaints of not being able to download it at all, because the servers to download the damn thing wouldn't work."Free weekend? Mine is downloading in the background, if it manages to finish in time I'll give it a quick blast tomorrow, if not, ohwell.
As for buying it, only if I really like it.
thinking about getting the ps3 version because the movement speed is slower. my reflexes cant compete online, so its not worth it really. maybe i will play more. it doesnt look like many people are buying it, because they extended the sale date to march 22nd, which leads me to think that maybe they will do another free weekend.
Ive been downloading it since thursday but combine my crappy download speed (max 120kb/s :() and the fact it decides to not download sometimes just for fun and that means if im super duper duper duper smooper lucky ill get 4 1/2 minutes to play including set up :| But I might buy it, you can get a retail disk copy for £5 now so sounds good to me.
Well I played the free weekend, not very much since the download was rather large... is a fair game, I think is what Unreal is and that is that. Unreal2k4 was a blast for me at large lanpartys (more than 30).
This one is good, it runs very well but I just dont love it enough, I feel that this games (for my taste), they get old pretty fast. I rather spend my time with TF2.
Of course if you played the free weekend and enjoyed it you should buy it since the price tag is great.
I was still playing UT2004 and a bit of the Xbox Championship games when UT3 came out and the demo did not sell itself well. It seemed like noticeably less of a game than the then-current ones.
For some reason, though, $12 is about right for that amount of game. So I bought it in the middle of the week between free weekends.
Spending some time with it now has reversed my first impressions since I get to actually see more map types, weird little tweaks and the newer, really enjoyable Betrayal mode. The single player seems pretty atrocious, but that's nothing new for UT. It being embarrassingly earnest is probably new.
The servers are vacuums, and no amount of new content can make up for it. It's a shame, too. Warfare is a really cool concept.
"Lunarbunny said:"I've had it since launch...let's just say it was a nostalgia-fueled purchase."Same here. It's taught me that some things are best left in the past."
I was not one of those avid UT players from back in the day, but I appreciate its impact on the industry and that style of gaming in general. Unfortunately, however, it would seem that the format is viewed by many as antiquated, and it would seem that the format is going the way of the dodo. =/
