Game developers are racist against dogs, always portraying them as animals.
Time for a Dog's Life sequel? That'd be quite poopsome.
That fake Bill Pullman speech can't compete with the original, but what can really.

DICE needs to stop with this single player nonsense in Battlefield. Nobody cares about it. At least it's just a bunch of fun setpieces in COD, but these BF stories actually try to be taken seriously.

Fuck.

A part of me finds it oddly hilarious where in the same trailer that they're painting this serious story about gender equalization, they also have a man straddling a dog and punching it in the mouth. Just stop, Battlefield. Stop. Go back to being unique with Bad Company, and stop trying to just be a low rent Call of Duty. They're better at it than you.

I don't know if that quite qualifies as a story trailer. All I got was there is a woman and a dude who wont leave anyone behind.

The dog bit is extra weird because it takes place during the intro level where Omar (I don't care what his actual name is) comes out the window and then two attack dogs jump him. You'll never actually see a close up like that (you're in the building across the street) so I'm not sure why they'd show that.

When he punched the dog, they should have done one of the over crusty synth hits

You guys know what the weird thing is? They showed the dog bit in one of the gameplay demos they made. On E3, I think. I even remember Jeff or somebody bursting out laughing when it happened (the player is a sniper or something covering the guy when he gets attacked, if I'm remembering correctly).

I find it strange that this is now a big joke but it kind of came and went the first time. What gives? Did it just go viral? Is the closer camera angle making it a bigger deal? Is it that now CoD has gotten so associated to "dog" that it becomes funnier?

@andrewf87462: The best COD campaign I played was COD4. It was really good and had some memorable moments. Every game since has tried to top it by trying to be more serious but coming across as insultingly stupid.

Nice to see they updated the digital fart sound for the next generation. Also interesting that EA has come out as firmly anti-dog

yeah because you would rather let the dog bite you if it attacked you. It's an attack dog he is punching, not a cocker spaniel.

I really wish they would stop pretending to chase CoD by wasting resources on the single player. BF games are about the MP and that is the vast majority of the reason why people will buy it

I'm surprised no one remembers there was FPS dog stabing and breaking dogs necks in 2007's CoD Modern Warfare.

But yeah, dog punching, too far.

Looks OK I guess. Can't be much worse than BF3's story.

We kinda said that after Modern Warfare 2, and yet pretty much every modern military FPS that came after was worse than the last. I have faith in their ability to continue that trend.

I don't understand the cynicism here. It seems to portray an interesting (if outlandish) story about some disaster in an American fleet heading for China, it looks like there are actual relationship dynamics amidst your squadmates - it looks like there might be a lot more here than your typical disconnected set of tactical exercises that constitutes a CoD campaign. Maybe it won't be, but I didn't see anything here to suggest that.

@chiablo: I care about singleplayer FPS games, and I love Battlefield, so I hope that BF4 has a solid campaign. I was really disappointed by BF3's campaign (got a game-breaking bug so limited my progress...), but I'm hoping that their increased focus has lead to a solid campaign.

EA takes this game very seriously and has put a lot of resources into it. The campaign needs to reflect that, IMO.

I totally agree with Jeff that they should stop chasing a Call of Duty style campaign and go back to the first Bad Company. That game had characters that were memorable and a story that was fun and unique for the genre, this is just forgettable military wankery.

They probably did focus testing and found that unflattering depictions of the military were not popular among the core demographic of drooling morons.

I feel like I should remind the good people here of the NYtimes article.

Direct quote:

“I hate to say this, but storytelling does not come naturally to Swedes,” said Patrick Soderlund, the most senior member of the DICE ruling triumvirate. “But we’re good at designing systems, and that’s what these games really are. Minecraft puts a box in front of you and says, ‘Do whatever you want with it.’ Battlefield is a system designed for entertainment rather than for telling you a story.”

Also EA's CoD envy is getting out of control.

But, but... Ingmar Bergman!
