GTA: Chinatown Wars, on the iPhone

i bought it and its fun. Yes, the controlls are not the best part, because it s still a touch pad, but if you don t own a DS, i would recommend this. Very good port!

Not how I wanna play GTA or any games really for that matter.

Cool, I might give it a try. There seems to be alot of negative iPhone feedback on this thread ;/ . But its a throwback to the original GTA's and looks fun.

Well that tablet ain't relevant, as that's a completely different product, as for a possible new iPhone, it really depends what upgrades it got, for example the last iPhone saw a improvement in things such as connectivity, that doesn't change the hardware used for applications and games, but what if they would want to put in a different CPU or GPU.

That's what makes the iPhone so far interesting, because again you only have to develop for 1 piece of hardware, whereas Android and Windows Mobile phones are made with lots of different hardware, and unlike with PC's, we don't have a standard yet for phones, so while it's always easier and more effective to have standard hardware (just look at consoles vs pc's, it's just easier to optimize it for consoles because you know exactly what it does), if we had a standard then we could atleast release it for phones.

For now we just have too many different hardware, operating systems, resolutions, buttons and touchscreens, so if you wanted to release a game for atleast 50% of the major phones from the last 2 years that fall under the smartphones (can't expect a simple Nokia or Samsung to do this stuff), then you would need atleast 2 dozen versions of the game.

Personally I just hope that at some point we just got 1 OS left, that it's base is just a bunch of code and that each company can build it's own interface on it, obviously this is already being done to a certain extend with Android and Windows Mobile, but I would like it to be reduced to 1 OS.

 Megaman on iPhone is almost impossible, there's no way GTA could work either.

I just played it for a few hours in between classes. The game plays very well. It's the only time I have ever really played anything on my iPhone.

There is a little snap on thing that adds a dpad and buttons however it looks awful in its current form and if Apple ever gets smart enough to develop their own version of it iphone games will get a ton more playable.

Well at $40 dollars at retail rockstar probably only sees about $14 bucks.  Because of production costs, shipping and distribution, sales reps, and retail markup.  On the iphone they make $7.  God knows that's not selling for that any more.  seems like a good deal.  

I bet they are going to make more money on iPhone than DS an will probably get over the miserable failure of the game on DS

Nobody should say "this is a shitty port" without playing it themselves. It's actually fantastic.

As a man who owns all 3 platforms this game is on and doesn't own the game yet, I'd like to know what the best version of the game. From my viewings the DS still looks like the definitive version

Looks like a decent hybrid between the PSP and DS versions.

it just shows the desperation that lame DS fans has caused Rockstar to have to go to, to try and get back into the black. But whatever is there seriously anything better than this on the iphone? (control issues nonwithstanding/price/value level)I was a bit tempted to grab it on PSP. 
 
it will likely be the game that required the most man hours to craft to ever hit the iphone, regardless of it being a port of a port.

You do know that Android is just a Operating System right?

The reason why the iPhone is popular for games and such is because every user has the same core hardware, software and resolution, you make a game for the iPhone and you reach a large amount of users, whereas with Android, Windows Mobile, Symbian etc, they all use various hardware and resolutions, so there really isn't much that you can do with it, they would have to develop for dozens of combinations to reach a good amount of people which is extremely expensive, so yeah, the iPhone is ideal for that.

The question is ofcourse, what will Apple do, the iPhone is heavily outdated, especially it's resolution, I got a smaller screen but my resolution is 2,5 times that of a iPhone, so what will happen when they upgrade it?

Looks good but Iphones need some type of physical control system instead of virtual buttons and joysticks, I think it was Dtoid or Kotaku that said someone was doing something about it.

Give those people half a year and this game will get ported more than Resident Evil 4 did.

I bought it and love it. Most people should give it a try; it is the first really good port I have played on the iPhone.

Personally, I don't like playing bigger budget games on my iPhone, but I hear this one is actually a well done port that doesn't feel like shit. Still, I'm not too sure if I can be won over while it uses drawn on sticks and buttons.

OMG they are porting it to the iPhone when it never sold well on the PSP or DS. Do they ever learn GTA is just boring and when GTA4 came out it put me to sleep it was the most un-fun game of the year.

Looks pretty bad. I'd much rather play it on a real portable gaming platform.

looks nice and colourful, explosions and all. Too bad your thumbs are going to be in the way half the time.

They need to make the game easier because the vehicles control like crap on the Iphone so repeating the same racing missions again and again isn't fun. They also need to add in an option to turn on and off the Pedestrian voice overs because the game feels lfieless without them.

Meh, iphone + serious gaming = stupid.

This actually is a great port. If you haven't played it on any other platform, get it on this. It's mad cheap at 10 bucks.
