Madden vs. Wolfenstein: The Wager

Idk, I think Jeff's out his damn mind. I'm no fan of Madden, but I didn't even KNOW there was a Wolfenstein game coming out until I saw the mailbag episode this week, so... : /
 
Then again, that Bionic Commando/UFC thing was a real good example...... Man.... Poor, poor Bionic Commando.... Nobody appreciated its greatness.

 I don't think Dave considered how international Giantbombs user base is. Madden is but a niche curiosity to those of use outside the US.

Jeff's got one thing. American Football is only big in USA, at least it's not nearly as popular in the rest of the world, and Giantbomb is pretty international. Then again, the US is the 360s largest market and american football is the most popular sport right?
 
I'm won't be playing Madden but I also won't get Wolfenstein before it's cheaper. Sorry Jeff, no help from me.

Agree with Jeff, would like to think GB is more inclined to shooters. But still think Dave will win.

Yeah across gaming as a whole Wolfenstein would lose so badly it isnt funny, but among sun fearing super geeks could be tight.

Beeing from europe i never played any madden game and probably never will. But then again... being from germany i probably cant play wolfenstein on launch day.  Buti t seems nobody considered that there are people outside the US. People in Europe should have no interest in Madden games but i am pretty sure a lot of them are a little excited about wolfenstein.  So yeah i think wolfenstein wins. 

Other than that... i dont have a 360 and my PS3 had the YLOD. So yes i will play neither madden nor wolfenstein :P

But the biggest part of US userbase is american; therefore madden will probably win. 
Not too many people are even stoked about wolfenstein as far as I know.

This could be pretty close, if previous Raven success is anything to go by. Might be dependent on timescale.

Most of the shooter market goes to games that avoid sci-fi/supernatural themes (Halo notwithstanding)

I don't think Jeff is too far off on this. I can see Wolfenstein beating Madden, at least on this site. Not a whole lot of people that visit sites like this are interested in playing a sports game that more or less hasn't greatly changed over the years.

Well Wolfenstein will be played all over the world (Giant Bomb has a big EU base) but Madden will only be played in the US. 
 
However, I still think Madden will win.

I think this will get closer since you speak of the community rather than the US only.
I for one haven't bought a single sport game and I'm from Sweden. I think it will be pretty close on this user base.

Madden isn't popular at all outside US. Here in Sweden, we have no interest in it, at all.

Depending on the reviews, I think Wolfenstein could be a big hit on Giantbomb.
I'm a huge football fan, and I don't even play Madden so we'll see how this goes.

I'm not interested in Wolfenstien in any way, shape, or form; and for the first time in a decade I'm interested in a madden game.  Jeff is going to eat shit's waffles, hardcore.

I dunno, seeing how the new NCAA game has only 347 players in this site at this moment, Madden doesn't look like it's going to be all that special. Then again, Madden may just have some sort of different fanbase (as in playing as the NFL teams over college teams). Jeff may win this (that is, if enough people are even that interested in Wolfenstein in the first place), but I think it's gonna be a close call. Since Dave's my favorite, though I'll be rooting for him. Don't let me down.

At first I thought Dave would win this one hands down, but only  2248 Giant Bomb users played Madden 08 (the last Madden I played). That's about half the number that played Red Faction: Guerilla.

Jeff will take the shot. Wolfenstein doesn't look all that great. Madden, on the other hand, always has a gigantic userbase.

Oh snap. I may not have my 360 any longer but I still have Gamertag and it's linked to the site. I'm totally renting Madden 10 to bring to my friend's 360 to assure Jeff loses. Nothing personal against Jeff, I just think you would take to losing and subsequently drinking Gin very poorly.

Oh my God, Popov gin...do they even make that stuff?  All I know is that Popov Vodka is like drinking furniture polish.  I'm not a lover of gin, but I think I fear tequila more.  Nothing good has ever followed me drinking a shot of tequila.
 
Good bet, I'm not sure how they will track it completely, but I think Jeff will lose this one because I'm not sure how many people, even on GB, are that psyched for Wolfenstein.  It looks awesome, but is it a first week of release game?  Unlike Madden, which has the ever increasing blitz of TV coverage due to the impending NFL season, Wolfenstein may be more of a word of mouth title with long legs but nothing substantial in the immediate.
