Payday 2 Arrives With a Chilling Launch Trailer

I'm gonna have to find some trustworthy friends to play this with. There are a few too many Waingros out there in random Internet land for my taste.

I never understood why they make super serious trailers to games that are just run-and-gun action games.

This game is only run and gun if your team sucks.

Yet it's still not an emotional, insightful, thought-provoking game that comments on how truly important one moment is like the trailer makes it out to be.

It's a freeze frame of a bank job while the camera pans around, nothing original, hardly thought provoking, not insightful, it's just made to look cool and give you some idea of what the game is about, not give you the idea that the game has an emotional core.

This is not just a "run and gun" action game. It's a heist game.

Cool trailer, but I couldn't help but think how much it would contrast to the actual game, with xWeedxHeadx420x running around gunning shit down left and right, and two russians yelling on voice chat.

Emotional, insightful, and thought provoking? It's a cool trailer of a heist. The game is primarily about performing heist jobs.

If you're skilled enough, have a coordinated team, about half the game's missions don't have to be "run and gun" at all. In fact, plenty can be finished without firing a shot if you're careful.

The game carries itself with a certain amount of seriousness, hence a serious trailer. It feels like you're grasping for something to criticize here.

Most people try to play the missions "stealthy" to start, until something goes wrong. It's rare that you get a pick-up group that wants to kick in the front door with their guns out, right off the bat. Especially on the upper difficulties, where the number of cops can get truly insane, giving you a good reason to try and keep things controlled for as long as possible.

Automatically shooting up the place is actually the lamest way to play this game. It feels so much more badass and rewarding to sneak into a place completely undetected, or control a building full of civilians before anyone can call the cops or hit an alarm, while your associates bag up all of the money/loot.

Don't really get all this hate because its not some kind experimental art piece "game" or something. When did a fun game with a simple concept become such a terrible thing because you play as an antihero leaving the choice of killing npcs up to the player? Cant you just try to stealth it and restart if you fail if you are spotted? I get if its not everyone type of game but still.

This game really looks incredible. Reminds me of Left 4 Dead for some reason too. Also, amazing trailer.

It's basically L4D with heists instead of zombies, really. Four people, co-op-oriented, dynamic scenarios.

Kind of? There's no stealth aspect to Left 4 Dead, nor is there an upgrade, or currency/loot system. Been dying to play this, but I hear the PC version is straight up busted at the moment.

It was busted for a few hours. They patched it and I haven't had any problems since.

Maybe my tastes are finally changing but a whole game based around murdering cops and civilians for bags of money?

Think of the children!

Good trailer! I don't know if I dig the game however. I must say that I have never managed to do something stealthy though. As far as I've understood there's really no punishment for killing about 50 cops per mission (my average), and it gets a bit repetetive. It's extremely easy even on the heists that are supposed to be the most difficult at rank 12 or something around there, where I'm at. No challenge at all.

I had hoped you would get very punished for attempting to just brute force missions, but so far there are no downsides except that it isn't that much fun. The gunplay is allright, but shooting 50 cops in the head is not that hard and it is a bit ridiculous in the context.

Been playing quite a bit of it today. Some of the beta issues are still there but overall it's a lot of fun.

@ridebird: Try the Framing Frame mission. The first and third levels in it basically REQUIRE stealth. Gates slam down and require you to do a 8-minute hacking objective if you trip the alarm in the first part, and I was totally unable to do the third one once the alarm went off despite being able to solo hard jewelry store at level 1.

Trust me, there's more stealth than you could possibly want there :P.

Who said stealth is the proper way to play the game? You sound like an asshole.

If you are not aware, this is a take on a classic, award-winning commercial for Phillips TVs.

@scotto: If I'm grasping to criticize, you're grasping to defend. In all the gameplay I've seen, this trailer is not very good at describing the game. It's non-stop action, not "Consider what's happening around you and the lives you're affecting" type.

@branthog: That's a real bummer to hear, because it doesn't represent what playing with a legitimate team feels like. Last night I spent 2 hours with a group of randoms surveying and studying a bank before systematically dispatching security guards and controlling the civilians in order to steathily complete a mission that all too often turns to a complete blood bath.

It's a really well done game that encourages good team play, and if you get bad teammates it can ruin the experience but fortunately most people I've played with (on PC) have had mics and been willing to craft a plan and attempt to legitimately complete missions without just running in guns a'blazin.

This trailer is so bad. It is so tonally incosistent with the actual game. A trailer should tell you something about the product, and this trailer makes this game seem like some introspective single-player game, not some dubstep-filled multiplayer shooter.

Just because it's good as an isolated piece of film-making doesn't mean it's a good trailer. It does a terrible job of describing the game.

Now I really want an introspective game about bank robbery though.

This trailer makes me question playing PAYDAY 2, not want to play it.

Great trailer though.
