that plus, the reason my friends and I bought this originally was to fight as Link, cause who gives a shit about Spawn or Heihachi?

It's a port of the PS2 version, meaning Heihachi. Then again, there's a slim chance they could do the GC version for the WiiU, and I only say that because Tekken Tag 2 was on it.

Link is the only reason to play that game. Probably steer clear of the port.

@arbitrarywater: I imagine it being a lot easier to just use Heihachi for all versions as they own him and he isn't locked to any particular platform.

Would that now make him a proper SC2 fighter instead of a novelty extra?

@themasterds: is this a real post or are you trolling? I don't understand people who just buy fighting games for a character or just to play single player. It'd be like buying a shooter and only ever using one gun, in single player.

Can't wait for this, it's the best Soul Calibur game and probably my favorite 3D fighter of all time. Xianghua and Nightmare all day.

I hope the PS2 version didn't use lower quality textures or lower quality models vs the GameCube/Xbox versions and those get pulled over to the HD port.

This game has a lot of depth with the 8wayrun system and the universal parries. lots of fun, even for new players.

And the reason they're using heihachi is because namco has the rights to him and doesn't have to pay extra like they would with Spawn and doesn't have to develop a nintendo specific version like they would with link.

I really, really liked Soul Calibur 2 back in the day.

I'm pretty sure Heihachi will be the only guest character since Tekken has gone multiplatform so there's no reason for him to be a Playstation exclusive. Which sucks because he was the least interesting character of the lot.

Most fighting game players I've ever talked to say Soul Calibur 2 is one of the best 3D fighters there is when it comes down strictly to gameplay.

I think it's funny that so many people here are complaining about Link and not talking about the online play. It makes me think that they've only played the single player and never against other people.

I played the living hell out of this game with my younger sister, usually on the ice stage to see if we could knock each other off. I might check this one out, or maybe just fire up the PS2 some time.

Maybe if I didn't still own my GC version I'd buy this.

I remember really liking Soul Calibur II on the GameCube, but I also remember playing almost exclusively as Link so I dunno if I'll pick this up. Maybe if it goes on sale.

From a character design standpoint (a personal interest of mine) this was the last Soul Calibur with any form of self-restraint. I was always a bigger fan of the DC Soul Calibur, but it's nice to see this one return.

I remember getting free tokens to play it at the arcade after helping some of the workers move around some machines.

After SCV struggled to get anyone's attention, this seems like a smart thing to do.

It looks better in SD because the blur hides the poor textures and polygons.

Actually it's just the easiest to do. There's no real reason for any dimorphism between the platforms this time around, and Heihachi doesn't pose any licensing problems, which isn't the case for Link and Spawn obviously. I'd be surprised if this version even has Necrid in it, since the deal with McFarlane wasn't strictly work for hire.

Soul Warriors is a dumb thing to call them.

Why not just Soul Fighters? You OWN the license to Soul Fighter, Namco.

@arch4non: Most likely that there are other characters. Sounds like many of you never got that far. Shame that so many chose to derive their enjoyment from such a tiny portion of the game.

The competitive scene in my neck of the woods for this game was insane back in the day. Looking forward to reliving some of those glory days over XBL.

Sure, I'm sad that there will probably be no Link in this version, but really I thought Link was a pretty cheap character to begin with, so meh.

I have to shamefully admit, like a lot of people, the only reason I ever bought Soul Calibur 2 was because Link was in it. I never cared for fighting games, but that one "feature" was enough to ease my way into trying it out.

Ended up loving it, despite link (Kilik was my main for the most part), but that was certainly a brilliant marketing decision to get people on board with the franchise.

This game is great. Like others here the reason I got it was because of Link but it's a well made fighting game so I hope they don't lose sales due to his lack of inclusion.

I loved the first two Soul Calibur games to death. I don't know if I'll necessarily go back and revisit this one. If we're talking pure nostalgia I'd probably defer to original on DC instead but hey, this is great too.

This game was terrible. It was the beginning of the end for SC, as they started bringing in ridiculous "guest characters" that were the focus of the entire game and completely broke the sense of the universe.

Aside from all the people being like "I want to fight as Link!" (shoot me) it had an inferior weapon master mode to the original DC Soul Calibur and Soul Edge.

I'm not even sure why Namco is doing this. Why not just foucs on making the next sould calibur great? If they like the cast and fighting system from this game... just put that into the next game.

SCII is the best SC. It added some great new features and characters and I really enjoyed the speed. SCIV on the other hand felt like a mess to me. I mained Talim in SCII and if anyone else played as her would know she is a fast and agile character but in IV, everyone and especially Talim, felt like they had weighted clothing on. It just felt so slow. They may have fixed it for V but without Talim (er, why? She seemed most suited for the whole story line thing they were going for) I just didn't care.

@lobstervendetta: Erm, you seem to forget taki's balloon chest from soul calibur 2. This series always had ridiculous designs for the females.

Whining about weapon master mode seems silly as the main feature of this is being able to play this excellent fighting game online.
