Looks like the power pellets are now coated with a nice buttery layer of trans fat for mega man plus the pac-man character seems to be a rehash of the girl in the mech suit (can't recall name) from earlier mvc games. Kind of curious to see if the super attacks of pac-man would be just turning opponent characters blue & pac-man just eating them.

Is there a joke I'm not getting behind this Mega Man's "look" or did they just decide to make a fat Mega Man. Either way it's pretty dumb/awesome.

Also, if the character isn't exclusive to the US version, if he's in the Japanese version as well, then there's the real Fuck You. For US fans, as much the die-hard Mega Man fans like the traditional look of the Blue Bomber more, as much as simply on an aesthetic level I personally would have preferred the traditional Mega Man, those of us who are old school enough to remember the original US box covers (which were altered for sort-of-but-not-quite-racist reasons*) can look at that, admit we were trolled, and say "Well played."

Japanese fans never had to put up with the terrible US box art for Mega Man. They always got the good Mega Man design, designed by someone who had not only seen the concept art for the game, but also had ideas of what a well designed character looks like. If this character is in the Japanese version of the game, then it is one giant upraised middle finger to Japanese fans, and maybe, the only thing that will save Capcom from an extreme fan backlash is "Fuck You, we have Monster Hunter Money," and even that might not save them.

*So, about the sort-of-but-not-quite-racist bit. In the early 80s, when Mega Man and the NES came to the US, Japan was not looked upon fondly on these shores. For years prior, all Japanese products which made it here considered disposable low quality crap. They were the "Made in China" of the time (since when Mao was alive, having your products made in China wasn't an option - Hong Kong or Taiwan maybe). When the Japanese Bubble Economy (which we didn't know was a Bubble Economy at the time) started, the US economy was in a slump and, around that time, the quality of Japanese goods, especially cars, increased, and Japanese businesses started buying up American businesses and, in some cases, literally shipping the businesses (mainly blue collar jobs like foundries) back to Japan.

Thus, we have a lot of poor, unemployed, angry, possibly under-educated people who were out of work due to another country, who, in their eyes, were stealing their jobs. This wasn't helped by bigoted attitudes against the Japanese which had managed to linger in the US society since World War II. Oh, and by the way, in the eyes of the people who were upset, the fact that "their pappy" had "beat" Japan in World War II added insult to injury. This lead to a boom in films, books, and other forms of entertainment to cash in on this new wave of xenophobia (for example, while Looney Tunes cartoons that depicted blackface were will out, old Propaganda cartoons with racist depictions of Japanese people were back in). Pro Wrestling chipped in with the heel manager Mr. Fuji & his client, Yokozuna in the WWF, and in WCW the evil Japanese Businessman Sonny Onoo started trying to buy out the WCW. Among the various writers to join in were Michael Crichton with "Rising Sun" (which featured an Evil Japanese Businessman raping and murdering a woman) and Tom Clancy with "Debt of Honor" (which had a cabal of Evil Japanese Businessmen planning to take over the United States, and ended with the son of one of the businessmen doing a Kamakaze attack with an airliner on the Capitol Building during, IIRC, the State of the Union).

During all of this mess, Nintendo of America launched the NES, and they and their publishers recognized that retaining the Japanese art for their games, at least the covers anyway, might be a bad move. This is why most Japanese names were changed for game protagonists (at least in the early years), and why most of the games got their box art "westernized" for the US release. Usually this art had little to do with the game itself. Sometimes, the art was actually pretty good in its own right (or at least decent), like the art for Ironsword: Wizards and Warriors II, and Operation: Wolf. And some times, as it was with Mega Man, the art was absolute fucking dog shit. It bears mentioning that the art for Mega Man 2, while still Westernized, was so much better - and more people played that game back in the day, and liked it.

What the hell?? Why doesn't 360 get pac man an bad box art mega man?? This blows man.

What the hell: that's not Street Fighter x Tekken Fighter anymore....I really hope they don't make something equally stupid on Tekken x Street Fighter.

Something tells me that Pac-Man showed bad boxart Mega Man his maze buffet.

I love this game. I love all its retarded systems, I love american Mega Man, I love that this game says fuck you to everyone. I have a feeling it'll be in my top ten come the end of the year.

The new characters seem fun, but making Mega Man and Pac-Man platform exclusive is pretty awful. These exclusivity deals always leave a bad taste in my mouth.   Hey, maybe they'll Namco X Capcom the digital marketplace and just make them stupidly expensive DLC after a time.

Nice to see that Japan is aware of our atrocious Mega Man box art.

I remember hearing that the rationale for it was that American audiences wouldn't buy something that looked so "foreign" (the anime-inspired cover), so THIS is what they came up with...cause if there's one thing American children hate, it's cartoons and if there's one thing they LOVE it's creepy, out of shape, grimacing robot-men.

My almost unconditional adoration of Capcom has been brought back down to earth over the past year or two but it's stuff like this that reminds me exactly why I ever threw my money at them in the first place.

This had me in hopes Microsoft could secure some obscurities, but I know that's not a probable thing. However, I'm still getting it on 360. I've got a fight stick, and all my friends on xbl, so that is where most of my enjoyment will stem from.
