Your December may be cold, but it’s going to be a hot one in Azeroth. Hot with fire.

Blizzard has announced that World of Warcraft: Cataclysm—the third expansion to its so-popular-that-you-don’t-really-need-to-qualify-it MMO—will touch down in stores and digital tubes on December 7th, just in time for you to spend your whole winter break in the newly-sundered Azeroth (or, at the very least, enough time to seriously jeopardize your final exam grades). The latest expansion sees the return of the insane dragon Deathwing, Azeroth’s most dangerous threat that you’ve never heard of, whose very awakening tears apart every landmass in the world. Players will return back to the original continents and try to stop Deathwing before he does any more damage to the already-ravaged Azeroth

 Team Jacob, all the way.

Those zone changes brought about by the return of Deathwing are more than just cosmetic changes; Cataclysm seeks to offer new players and current subscribers more reasons to play through the early parts of WoW by adding new content and quests to nearly every zone in the game, making the path to the end game feel fresher and more meaningful than it has in previous expansions.

== TEASER ==To further incentive players to try out the new low-level cataclysm content, Blizzard is introducing two brand new races to the game. The Alliance is joined by the Worgen, a population of humans cursed with lycanthropy, whose starting area is bound to be full of Twilight jokes. The Horde, on the other hand, welcomes the arrival of the Goblins, a formerly neutral, mercantile race that has decided, since the Horde doesn’t have a tiny ally, they might as well fill that quota.

That focus on the lower level content hasn’t prevented Blizzard from adding new content as well; Cataclysm adds eight new zones for leveling and two new PVP zones for battling, as well as brand new instances and raids.

Ragnaros! Looking good, buddy. Have you been working out?

Here's a list of major features that your Cataclysm expansion will provide you access to:

I know I’m looking forward to once again taking the plunge back into Azeroth. If you’re ever on the Kargath server, hit me up on my soon-to-be-created Worgen Rogue! I’ma call him Wogue.

This is about a month later than I expected, but at least it means I can start up again closer to my winter break.

Remember RorCraft?

Cataclysm sets the bar ridiculously high for future expansions in terms of quest design, visuals, and story-telling. Even the entire storyline of Wrath seems as disjointed and repetitive as vanilla WoW compared to what I've seen in just the first three zones. Blizzard is getting closer and closer to what a lot of people say they want from an MMO.

Just when i actually quit, they bring me back!

@Jeffsekai: Those people who have "legit" problems have just that - a problem.  Do you laugh at alcoholics and gambling addicts as well?

Actually, it's not exactly Laugh out Loud funny but it's still their own fault and is humorous.

I never knew I was weak minded until Giant Bomb told me I was. THANKS GIANT BOMB!

@Wes899: If they have an addictive personality, it's not entirely their fault.  And it's not funny.

@Jeffsekai:
Addiction is not funny.  Laughing at people with a problem makes you a prick.

Surprised they didn't save this announcement for Blizzcon considering that is only a couple weeks away, must be some mandate to give retail a few months to sell pre-orders now that they have a firm release date.

@LordCmdrStryker: Being addicted to WoW is pretty funny, actually.

Who want's to bet this will sell lots of copies?

#43 Posted by rentfn (1283 posts) -
@Cybexx:  I was thinking the same thing. Maybe they learned from last year nothing can be kept quite so they put it out themselves. Wouldn't stop pre-orders. Best buy and Gamestop have been accepting pre-orders for months.

whats Rag up to in that screenshot?
didn't we kill that guy already?

#45 Posted by LordCmdrStryker (346 posts) -
@BulletproofMonk: It's not fucking funny, actually.  Being addicted to anything is a fucking tragedy, and the fact that you don't understand that leads me to believe that you're either an unconscionable douchebag or just ignorant.

How the fuck did we get started on this?  Oh yeah, the WoW trolls.  If you don't like WoW, just shut the fuck up and don't post.  Jesus Christ.

Good by social life we had fun these last couple months.

This is great though I'm kinda glad it's not coming out in November like mmochamp was hinting at a while back, it gives me more time to level and get another 80.

#47 Posted by Kyle (2325 posts) -

yes yes yes yes yes yes yes...

#48 Posted by Asrahn (552 posts) -

Oooh yeah, finally. All problems that arose with Burning Crusade and Wrath will be revamped and returned to their original, non-cocked-up state, and instances will once again be a friggin challenge.

Please Blizzard, don't fuck this up. Especially since I have pre-ordered a damn collectors since long ago.
