Can you install games on a usb stick? I know they recently made it so usb sticks are compatible but does that mean I can like install Mass Effect 2 on a 16GB stick and play it off my 360 or is it just for saves?

Nope. Microsoft has strict rules on that. They're afraid people are gonna use modded hard drives to cheat. Even if you're just trying to add your own bigger hard drive.

A 4G HDD would cost far too much to sell. A 250gb HDD is probably cheaper. It's integrated flash memory or they include one of those terrible X360 branded SanDisk thumbdrives.

You are aware that would be less than the original Xbox's HDD. :|

    That is seriously embarassing.

Why would anyone buy a console with a 4 gb HDD?  Unless your REALLY conservative with what you download.

I geuss MS still thinks it can compete with the Wii by selling a cheaper version of their console.

Based on their previous hard drive strategies (Note: screw over 20 GB early adopters), I can see Microsoft making 4 GB hard drives that are juuust cheap enough for some uninformed consumers to think they're worth it.

That being said, I just bought a 4 GB flash drive the size of my thumbnail for under $10...

Oh, I didn't realize there was an Arcade S system - which is entirely laziness on my part due to apathy. At least it will have some minor storage for people who rarely play games (like the casuals that only buy a couple sports games a year or something), but I was always planning on just getting a fat thumb drive for my next replacement 360 anyway.

I don't know where else to share this but here:

GameStop did that promotion where if you traded in your 360 you could get a big discount towards the new 250gig 360.  It just so happened that I was in the market for a new 360 right before E3 and with all the rumors swirling about a redesign I decided to bide my time.  Well they put up the deal and I went ahead and did it.

Now the reason I was in the market for a new 360 is cause my old one was broke.  It would only boot up for about 15 minutes before it would crash with a terrible sound and a bunch of fluorescent green and pink lines came across the screen.  My 360 was junk.  So I gave it to GameStop for a huge discount on a new one.  What made things better was that I had a 20 gig hard drive and they punched in for a 120.  The new 360 is super quiet too - here's hoping it is as fail-resistant as its been made out to be.

I'm sure everyone else is also wondering how you go through 11 Xbox 360's, let alone how you can afford that many.

It would be a good move. There are still some Xbox 360 users that just play casually, and don't need that much room. Aside from that, I still think that 4 GB isn't that realistic, especially for $199. Maybe something like 20 or 40 GB would work better. Memory isn't so expensive these days, and 4 GB for that price is unreasonable.

Obviously fake. Microsoft wants to push their digital distribution of games through Games On Demand as well as movies through Zune. This would hurt them in the long run since anyone who buys a 4GB system can't even download one game or HD movie.

It'd make sense because they kept making Arcade consoles while they had those services out. And if they REALLY REALLY wanted people to use that stuff, then every single Xbox would have a 120GB and up HDD.

Plus the HDD's sold separately wouldn't cost two livers and a toe.

This article is completely believable. They want tiered things. One just so they can say "199 dollar XBOX".  And the current new Xbox.

Sounds fairly decent enough for me. Not enough for saving games on the HDD, but that's not the point of the Arcade model in the first place.

Not true. If you flash a laptop drive with the official Xbox HDD firmware, you won't be banned because the system can't see the difference. You start modifying files, then yeah, you'll be banned, but just adding a bigger drive is totally safe.

I'm not talking about slapping the whole shebang on there, I'm talking about pulling the drive out of the enclosure and slapping it in the Slim's.

Of course, in retrospect, it would be absurd to ship with a 4GB HDD but rather some type of flash memory, so chances are the new Arcade wouldn't even have a drive enclosure and therefore you'd need to get one off ebay or something. Although I'm still holding out hope that they release a Slim that has SOME sort of smaller HDD while still being <$300.

That's in reference to unauthorized Memory Units, as in Action Replays and other illicit shit.

Adding in a laptop drive is impossible for the Xbox to detect because A) It's the same brand and model of HDDs as the ones the 360 normally uses, B) It's using the same firmware as a real 360 drive and C) It is formatted on the Xbox itself. I know 3 people who added their own 250 gig drives to their 360s and have had them for over a year, myself included, and it works great. If anything, MS should support it because I've installed so many games and bought so many Rock Band songs and Arcade games that they've probably made $100+ on me alone.

For someone like me, who doesn't have a 360 and plays most of his games on a PS3, this is definitely appealing if I want to pick up exclusives. Plus if I decide to go mainly 360 or something I can easily upgrade the hard drive. "
That's a really good point, and I agree. The only worry is that those exclusive games might add up.

Well it is better than the regular arcade now but if the console doesn't have built in wi fi or hdmi then people should just get the regular instead of spending money down the road to upgrade.

Yeah, as MS move into the family market you dont have to be a genius to work out that somethink like this was in the making. Typical family usage will save a few games and perhaps buy 1-2 arcade classics that they used to play as kids. 4GB will be plenty to do this.

As someone who doesn't download games or media at all 4GB is a joke.  I like to install disc games to cut down on the load and processing time.

The previous Arcade model (the one with the Jasper chipset) has 512MB of internal storage.

This article sure took the scenic route before getting to the actual news.

Imagine if you bought a washing machine/TV/stereo/lamp/dvd player/anything that reguires electrcity and it died 10 times - you would complain your ass off and not buy them anymore. Still I am baffled at how you let Microsoft just bend you over and have its way with you.  If my current 360 dies then I am done, it will be my third and that is that. "
If I was on my 11th 360 and the first ten were replaced at no charge, then I could see sticking with it. I mean, you're acting like he bought every one of those 11 360's.

I'm gonna buy a new 360 when the Kinect bundles come out and, hopefully, they'll have a bigger HDD by then because my current 360 has a 250GB HDD and it's nearly full.
