So, who's preordered?

As of right now, it appears that they only way that North Americans will be able to guarantee themselves copies of the local region release of Xenoblade Chronicles is to either preorder the game from Gamestop (which can be done now), or through Nintendo's website (which can be done starting on December 19th). So, who here has put their money down on this? I've already preordered two copies (one for me, one for a friend as an early birthday present).

well that sucks
I just wanted to go to a store and get it

#3 Posted by Beforet (2922 posts) -

That's a bit restricting. So is it safe to assume that this game will run for $270 new after the first week like the rest of the last few, somewhat obscure JRPG releases?

Same here. I'll call my local GameStop to see if they're getting copies, but I'll pre-order from the site, just in case.

thats one of those three jrpgs right. Tell me when they bring the awesome one to the us, the one by that ex square guy

Just got mine in the mail a few days ago, I live in Norway though so the question wasnt really aimed at me :P

You can preorder from physical Gamestop locations, as well. It's not limited to their website.

Xenoblade was also made by an ex-Square guy.

#8 Posted by Bocam (3753 posts) -

I'm not. As I bought the game two times already.

#9 Posted by SlightConfuse (3963 posts) -

@Dagbiker: this is the one by the guy who left square

#10 Posted by Dagbiker (6976 posts) -
@Hailinel I did not know that.

I'm just going to wait until its $20 at Gamestop a few months after it comes out

the last story? yeah that's the one I actually want.

I don't know if that's going to necessarily happen. If this game does end up running in limited quantities, you might be hard-pressed to find it lower than the $50 retail price, especially if it goes the insane collector's market route as Beforet suggests and the price gets jacked up to ridiculous levels. Not saying it's going to be that way, but it could.

#16 Posted by Oobir (69 posts) -

I'll consider doing that, if I can manage to find a buyer for my PAL copy of the game and matching Wii. It is the kind of game I could see myself purchasing again.

(Yes, I do regret not looking up the simple process of soft-modding a US Wii instead of importing one from Britain, WHY DO YOU ASK)

I'm pre-ordering mine this weekend.

I suppose that could happen, but I'm only passively interested so I'll let people who want it die hard get a shot first, and if its a crazy price.....well I have too many other games I need to play to get hung up on it.

Yep. Monolithsoft was actually founded by members from Squaresoft's old Xenogears team. Their games were published by Namco until Nintendo bought a 90% stake in the developer.

#20 Posted by Video_Game_King (36272 posts) -

@Hailinel:

I know, but I just want to see if I can walk in, ask for Xenoblade, discover its the wrong day, and then pre-order the game and come in the next day. (I've done it before.)

#21 Posted by ImpendingFoil (555 posts) -

I pre-ordered mine. I would feel pretty hypocritical if I did not though since I sent two letters to Nintendo saying I would buy this game and The Last Story if there were brought here.

does this have anything to do with Xenogears? is Xeno just the brand?

As far as I know, there's no deadline by which you have to preorder before the release date.

#24 Posted by Video_Game_King (36272 posts) -

@Hailinel:

I think that's covered with the phrase "the next day."

#25 Posted by JackSukeru (5913 posts) -

Now, the game is already out here so I guess I could just go out and get it (maybe it'll be hard to find at this point, who knows) but I'm just sorta scared of the time commitment at this point. I spent nearly 60 hours with the last game I played and over 200 with the one before that, I don't know if a ~100 hour affair is what I want right now.

Then again I have been looking for excuses to put off playing more FFXIII lately so...

Aside from some spiritual ideas, there is no connection to either it or Xenosaga. The game wasn't even originally called Xenoblade; the name change occurred because the lead producer Tetsuya Takahashi felt that a connection was there, in a sense, and so he changed it.

ok, Xenogears is one of the best JRPGs of all time. Xenosaga which was suppose to be a 6 game prequel to Xenogears, I did not like at all. Xenoblade is supposedly one the best  JRPG of this gen, so if I see it I'll get it.

I don't like to pre-order on principle.

If I see it in stores, and I can find my goddamn Wii remote, I'll pick it up though.

I'm kinda bummed out I can't find the damn thing, now that there's two whole Wii games I should try out.

I have my PAL machine and copy, but I also have an NTSC Wii, which I soft modded just to play Japanese games (mainly Captain Rainbow). Love Xenoblade ....... hate Region Locking.

#30 Posted by fenixREVOLUTION (735 posts) -

I'm going to pre-order soon. I've heard enough about this game to make me think it'll be worth it, plus I don't have an RPG for the Wii.

#31 Posted by Muerthoz (350 posts) -

For those who don't want to pre-order through Gamestop, you can now do pre-orders through Nintendo's store site.

#32 Posted by Ace829 (2083 posts) -

I preordered the moment it was announced. For reals.

#33 Posted by Guided_By_Tigers (8061 posts) -

I would definitely prefer to go through Nintendo and avoid Gamestop.

#34 Posted by Dalai (7030 posts) -

Yep, pre-ordered from Nintendo. And considering I'm not a fan of JRPGs, I'm surprised I committed to this. Hey, I might end up really liking it.

#35 Posted by FancySoapsMan (5828 posts) -

I pre-ordered it from Gamestop. I didn't even realize I could pre-order it from Nintendo though.

I can't wait to play it.

#36 Posted by Vrikk (901 posts) -

I did. I have it already (EU version), but I'm going to keep this sealed for awhile and sell it back when it inevitably reached an insane price.

#37 Posted by Atary77 (502 posts) -

I did, seen a lot of the reviews from critics in the UK and it looks like something I want to experience.

Having played both Xenoblade and The Last Story, I can definitely say that Xenoblade is "the awesome one".

#39 Posted by TooWalrus (13202 posts) -

For some reason, when the localized version of this game got announced, it got into my head that it was coming to 3DS instead of Wii. Now I'm bummed that I'm gonna have to dig out my Wii to play (but I'm still going to- 'cause this game looks rad.)

do NOT play this game with a Wiiremote!

there's a reason they had a bundle in Europe with a red Classic Controller Pro.

#42 Posted by StarvingGamer (8246 posts) -

As loathe as I am to walk into a GameStop I have preordered this game.

#43 Posted by kurtbro900 (117 posts) -

I preordered just now. Too bad I won't be able to get the art book because they're out now.

#44 Posted by Ducksworth (660 posts) -

Only a week left :D

But it comes out literally a day before my first exam and I end on the 20'th so there's a good few weeks before this game and I get a bit of alone time.

And Nintendo of America has started selling the game in a CCP bundle on their website.

#46 Edited by Cathryn (546 posts) -

Yup, pre-ordered last week. Have to pick up a CCP as well, but I don't mind too much, this is my only game purchase for April, so a little extra for a controller won't kill me. My real concern is the fact that I bought Tales of Graces F last month and haven't gotten around to playing it yet, so I've got a bit of a backup already for JRPGs with real time combat.

#47 Posted by BeautifulSpaceCowboy (603 posts) -

I have it on order from Nintendo. I have the classic controller from Monster Hunter Tri (which is the last Wii game I bought), so I am all set there.

#48 Posted by Neezie (118 posts) -

Ugh really wish I had time to play this. I just started Radiant Historia and I know that by the time I finish it Xenoblade is going to be hard to find

#49 Posted by fenixREVOLUTION (735 posts) -

Pre-ordered it a month or two ago, can't wait to play it Friday.

#50 Posted by InfiniteSpark (307 posts) -

Pre-ordered last week, first time I pre-ordered a game. I was going to chance it on Friday but a friend talked me into reserving a copy.
