Overview
Mario Golf: Advance Tour is the fourth installment of the Mario Golf series. It was developed by Camelot Software Planning and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance in 2004. Advance Tour retains the RPG elements and several of the same characters and golf courses introduced in the 1999 Game Boy Color release of Mario Golf; however, these courses have been completely overhauled from their original versions.
Advance Tour features connectivity with Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour for GameCube, which can unlock new courses in Advance Tour along with new characters for use in both games. Customized golf clubs and taunts earned in Advance Tour can also be transferred to Toadstool Tour.
Gameplay
As with previous Mario Golf entries, Advance Tour uses the standard "three-click" golf swing mechanic established in EA's long-running PGA Tour series to simulate players' shots.
Players select one of the game's two playable characters, Neil and Ella, to use as their avatar during Story Mode. The character not chosen as the player's avatar serves as an AI partner during Doubles games. Players manage the stat growth of both characters by distributing experience points earned by completing a round of golf, as well as by participating in side challenges and minigames.
Defeating rivals in tournaments or match play can unlock new characters, holes and even entire courses for use in various game modes.
